    Surprisingly entertaining. I am not an expert on shooting gears but its just "the technical parts" which shall not be much concern when you have that kind of 'smooth storytelling flow', very well presented. As the saying goes, everyone can learn how to use Illustrator/Photoshop (technical) but not everyone can do design works (fundamental). The technical part is a learning process and you will get there eventually. Keep up the good work.

    • @SideTripLife

      Great choice and price! I also love my M1 (Air) as it's 30%+ faster read/write than M2 Air (due to 2x128 NAND flash chips on M1 Air, vs slower single 256 on M2 Air). With that, plus no notch but with the iconic wedge, M1 just became an instant classic (ala MacBook Pro 15" 2015 previously imho - which I still use at home;). M1 Air is perfect for YT editing on the road, slices thru even 4k vids, zero lags, renders super fast, doesn't heat up, love the wedge and no notch, so I'm good until M3 /4 ish now.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still sux and only really use it for bike rides. Also only looks decent in bright lights/sunshine, useless in even low light. My phone is far more superior. I could buy the GP media mod for $100 so I can then plug in a wireless mic (which isn't wireless as you have to attach the receiver by a wire to the top of your GP) and the standard Rode wireless mic costs $300 so now you're into $400 and fussing about charging and plugging in externals etc etc (=ZZzzzz fuggedaboutit for me at least). HOWEVER, I DID rig a great way to have continuous power to the GP and a cheap but effective chest-mount - see in next vid. STL

    Dear STL,
    Giving details that give a traveler. A broader perspective and understanding of an area are always appreciated here. I am very interested to see what is happening in there energy sector and have always been disappointed that that area is the only area that produces palm oil that really matters. That industry has wrought a great deal of environmental harm.

  • @followhannesw
    @followhannesw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dear STL - Thanks, another interesting journey in stages that we look forward to continuing. As for the GP; I still like my 8 because it's small, has good stabilization, offers great picture quality in daylight, etc. But; Unusable at night, internal mic is bad, external mic doesn't work (interface issues, no one can/will fix it in Thailand!), overheating issues (have to force 4 batteries, an expensive joke!). When I was looking for "my" camera, I came across the Sony, but great references; Miserable stabilization (unusable when walking, in the car or on the motorcycle), too many setting options that you would normally never use, whoever has no basic knowledge of photography should leave it alone. I also find this camera relatively heavy. Nevertheless, it also offers advantages, and I use them: There is the built-in zoom, the background blur, the super slow motion, the night shots (if standing on a tripod) etc. And now? With 3 cameras (incl. my smartphone) I'm running around and trying to get the right mix. Without a battery in the GP, I connect a power bank (30,000 mAh, lasts around 24 hours, costs only as much as 1 original battery from GP), it weighs 500g, so I don't have to go to the gym for that - lol! And so I continue to wait until "my camera" is created - hannes w.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ollowhannes.w thank you! I also enjoy your channel with focus on Hua Hin and more, always good cinematography and art I might add.
      As I'm also motorbiking and hiking volcanoes etc around Sumatra, I needed a safer method than holding my phone, thus got the gopro out of necessity. I also have an older Insta Go2 but the battery lasts 10 mins (cannot switch the battery either = stop n charge....yawn) and then all the film has to be processed via their software which is a lonnng & involved process!).
      The gopro is serving its purpose, sort of -day time only/bike rides mostly. However, I hoped it would not be necessary to plug in and strap on a mic constantly (I just want to point n shoot, no wires). The so-called 'wireless' mic most youtubers use is NOT wireless at all as you must attach the receiver by a wire to the top of the GoPro (uggghhhh!!!) Also it must be separately charged AND costs more than $100... OR, one can get the separate 'media mod' again for more than $100.... (arrrgghhh!!!)
      The cost of the GoPro and the necessary expensive add ons are not really in my YT budget as my earnings are minimal so I should've just made do with my phone...
      Now, waiting to see what GoPro and DJI Action launch next (likely in September). I'll only 'upgrade' if there's an increase in sensor size (thus better in low light) plus has better on board mics (and only then IF I can sell my GoPro10 to subsidise the cost...)
      We'll see...
      STL
