Cool video! I'm a game design student and my projects so far have been short sprints to meet a certain brief, so its interesting to see how a game being made without restrictions can still difficult. Especially the part about getting too into side projects and struggling to get back to the main game. I like how you can reflect that into problems with the games design rather than just chalking it up to procrastination. Very insightful.

That's a big change but I guess it makes sense to make it more interesting, good job

maybe exams? blocks that force you to manage your stress more strictly, to give you more reason to think carefully about what things you pick to do maybe

I'll go in order of the points of the video
      1) "I have no writing, so I'll focus on gameplay aspects"
Why would you ever do this on this genre of all genres? A person who decides to play a dating sim isn't looking for engaging gameplay and 100 gimmicks/features, they're looking for cute characters with a compelling story to tell. You see a character you find cute (be it visually, or she appears in an event and her dialogue intrigues you), but in order to get her you need 100 strength, thats why a dating sim gamer grinds any stats. The gameplay is the hurdle stopping me from seeing the story I want. The cake is the story and the strawberry is the gameplay, not the other way around. Hoping the game is fun without any writing is impossible, this is not what this sort of game is about. What is your drive to making a game in this genre, if you don't seem to understand or care for what it is about? Your not enjoying tokimeki for what it is doesn't tell me you have a passion for it, so why are you making this game?
      2) "I took inspiration from huniepop"
With so many good games out there? You really thought this ironic dating sim which padded its barebones writing with bejeweled is what you should strive for? Try at least Bunny Garden first instead. People who want to play candy crush dont want to play a dating sim. People who want to play a dating sim dont want to play candy crush. You'll find games with such properties because the devs dont sincerely think a novel is a real game, and thus need to pad it with "gamey" things to cater to an imaginary audience of people who want gameplay-y novels, or because they think writing is an inferior field and even matching three colors is better than it. Which are you?
      3) I dont get the profile thing, but isn't making it not cost a time slot a better solution to whatever the issue was?
Much like picopals, you sound like you're just doing the motions of a game instead of having any passion for what you're doing, any interest in what you're working with. What is it that you like? What kind of person do you want to see your games, what are you trying to say through your games? Are you expressing yourself artistically, or just trying to get some numbers going up and down while colors flash on the screen and call it a day? I can't understand you as an artist.

@@PhantomThiefXI Thanks for the thoughtful comment. With the games I am making I'm primarily trying to make the games that I want to play myself which may seem odd based on the my taste. My own taste has changed with time and I'm trying to explore what I like. For example with Pico Pals I want to create a creature collector that is streamlined to fit within about two hours but has optional depth/difficulty for those who want it. If you want to understand me as an artist I recommend Hermit Home Designer which has a lot of myself as an artist in it.
