I can't explain how important it is to see a lens test that's lit correctly. I hope you got paid because this is better than 99.9% of the lens tests I have seen. It's pointless to test a lens in crappy lighting, I want to see what it can do in a best case scenario. I have spent 3-4 hours watching videos on the CP.3 and CN-E lens and not really found anything that impressed me even from the manufactures. Someone mentioned Tokina and I found your video. This video alone has more or less sold me on the Tokina cine lens. Manufactures take note! The manufactures who can't be bothered to show the T stops or even lens used in a cut won't get a dime from me. I'm watching a video to see what the lens can do at a given T stop. I'm not buying a lens based on a fluff video.
Your video broke the news to us that the 135mm prime had been announced. We immediately paused the video, pre-ordered the lens, and then continued to watch to see how the lens performed. It performed beautifully! And Ryan Avery told us we secured the first pre-order of this highly-anticipated lens. Looking forward to posting my own footage when the production models arrive in 2020...
Thanks so much for doing these! Super helpful. Way more interesting than test charts. There seems to be quite a noticeable color shift in skin tones and contrast from lens to lens. Good to know.
I’m so excited got a Monstro through the Battle Tested special they’re running and I have the 35, 50, and 85, I really want the 18 and the 105 or the 135 now 😤 the Monstro can’t come fast enough
You had the Wandering DP as PA? Let me rephrase, he's willing to PA to check out how these lenses perform in person ey? Haha, great stuff! I do see a couple of the lenses showing signs of air bubbles in some of the elements during the flare tests. I know it's common, but is it common in high-end cinema lenses like these? We wouldn't normally see these imperfections from an Arri master prime or similar in price range right? I personally find the dramatic lens flairs to be too, dramatic is the best would I guess. Definitely need to put a mattbox on these bois in most cases..
Hi Phil, I'm about to purchase the Tokina 35mm and 85mm, but I'm worried about the weight issue. I'm torn between Tokina and Sigma High Speed Primes. What would be your choice? Thanks. Great stuff man.
It looks like the 50 is extra contrasty and the focal lengths above (85 and up) have a little different look. Was anything changing in the environment? Or is that the flare tolerance?
In tests like these I sort of refuse to use a matte box to show if the lens is prone to glare and flare. The large diameter of these indeed takes in a lot of light, mostly what you'll see if contrast variations particularly in the bottom of the frame from the light off camera frame right.
I wonder how you would compare the vista line up with the sigma primes. I saw the separate video you posted, however the lighting is slightly different so i'm having a hard time to make out. To me, the sigma is far more clinical. Have you ever tested them side by side? Have you ever tested the cooke mini s4 or the s4? Thanks
Yes, I own and shoot both and they are actually very different lenses. The two tests look different because they were shot months apart at that location. The Sigmas sort of give me Zeiss vibes sometimes, but the Tokinas are unique and different from that. I use both pretty often on shoots.
Hey! This kind of stuff is boring... Make some more LA videos, maybe this time from street level! Really I would love to see that, there aren't many like you, you very unique here on youtube! Have a great day!

Absolute brilliant optical engineering.
Man that 135mm bokeh is sweet!

I actually own both, not so much because the slight weight difference, but physical size.

@@phfx cool. I love them and that you make them.

Офигеть, а небоскребы будут?
Харе Чувак я думаю будут. Просто ему же хеликоптер нужен а это дело не бюджетное. А пока можно наслаждаться этими великолепными шарами бокэ.
