Hey Ben I have a 2001 XJ and was wondering how well does your hood vents from hyline off-road work and mine is a daily driver but tends to get warm in the summer here in Indiana and was just wondering if I would encounter any problems when driving in the rain?
Of course we're using Monster Valves on our own rigs but before we developed them, we always had a set of Trailhead Deflators. They work similarly to the JT Brooks but the set screw is recessed making it harder to knock out of adjustment. They may take longer to air down than pulling the valve core but there's less "knee time" spent at each tire which means we have time to prep other gear or check out other rigs.
When I’m looking for Jeep videos I always try and see if you don’t have something relevant to what I’m looking for because you’re always one of the more detailed ppl on here. Thank you for making videos, they help!
I been using these on 37-13.5 for last 13 years 15 inch steel wheel 8-9psi I set them screw them on I pull them off few mins into my run. Simple BILLET4X4 TRAILHEAD Tire Deflators great product.
My 20 year old grandson just bought his first jeep. We are now a 3 Jeep family. This would be a great addition to his wheeling kit. Personally I have a system where I have 2 1/4 hoses connected to a 3 way manifold where I can air down 2 tires at once and monitor the air flow with a pressure gauge on the manifold. Air up the same way 2 tires at once using my onboard air system. Running Cooper A/Ts and normallly run 20psi.
I have been doing my tire air downs the old fashion way with that first tire gauge you demonstrated, very slow, but accurate. I would love winning the “Currie EZ Tire Deflator”. It looks way easier and faster to deflate my tires as to the old fashion way. Another great video. Keep them coming. Thanks
Currently i am deflating old school with the back of my tire gauge. I bring them down to about 12 without bead locks. lol I just got my 2009 JKU Rubicon. your videos have been awesome i have learned a lot keep them coming!
Been off roading since the 70's with both 4x2 & 4x4 ... nobody ever aired down back then, ... still went all over hell in the hills. Today I still don't bother with it and still get to all the cool outback place without spinning out like crazy, wrecking tires, being left behind, etc. Do what works for you but it always makes me wonder why everyone is airing down the moment they leave the pavement🤔. Yes, it does give extra traction however I have yet to really ever 'need' that extra traction unless rock crawling. Just 'drive' guys!
I have the Staun tire deflators, much like the JT Brooks, they are slow. I found them to be somewhat inaccurate as they don't always stop at the preset pressure. I made my own dual tire deflator/inflator using 2 Haltec H-5265 air chucks $12 each, a Harbor Freight 3-Way Industrial Quick Coupling Manifold $14, a 0-100 psi ari gauge $16, Harbor Freight 3/8 Ball Valve $4 and some miscellaneous barb fittings, hose clamps and Harbor Freight 3/8 in. x 25 ft. PVC/Rubber Hybrid Air Hose $20. About $80 total. Works great, fast and keeps the left and right tire pressures dead even. I have seen the 4 tire versions, but it seems like a tangled mess, so I made mine with only 2 air chucks. More expensive but does double duty.
That dual setup sounds awsome! Ben...you build one and do this in one of your vids. Doing 2 tires at the same time without a big tangled mess sounds great!
I did the same thing but do all four at one time. I also have a built in gauge to the manifold along with a ball valve to let the air out or in at the same time. All tires get exactly the same amount of air by equalizing pressure in the system. Very fast way of airing down or up.
I've been using my regular car air pressure gage my dad gave me when I first learned to drive. This is a great video helping me learn the differences, thanks!
Great video! I use a four-hose system on my primary valves all attached to a calibrated SI analog gauge that’s mounted under my driver side hinged cowl. My backup is a Trailhead red set. I occasionally throw those on the secondary valves and just hit the trails.
I used the ARB deflators very similar to Currie deflators. Almost identical as if Currie bought the design or something. Its nice knowing where your pressure is at while deflating but one tire at a time is slow. Keep up the good work!
Great comparison video! I use the Currie and absolutely love it but am considering the JT Brooks Pro. Saving time airing down is priceless in my opinion. Keep the videos coming!
New to this, just use my key for now. Just got our 2001 TJ around Thanksgiving. It’s stock 4.0 with 31’s. Exploring Arizona. The Superstition Mts and Sedona. So beautiful.
Just bought my first Jeep Wrangler and trying to compile everything i need to go wheeling. I enjoy watching your videos and they inspire me to try some of your upgrades as well. Keep on wheeling!!
We are moving soon close to the beach and will be getting our OSV permits to spend our weekends on the beach. This would be awesome to have and something we actually need. Thanks love all your videos
Good video. Deflators have come a long way from the day I used to remove the core and check the air every now and then and then screw it back in. Keep up the nice work
my husband uses the ones he got with his smittybilt compressor. but i know they dont work well cause he only uses 2 instead of the 4. this he would love. thx, he has likes your videos and this one was helpful
Dude I was just wondering about this the other day. I bought a 2016 Jeep Wrangler and haven't really had time to to it off road much. It sucks cuz I work to much, but I've decked out the jeep with the extra money... Well keep the videos coming man I've been watching several a week since Christmas when I found your channel!! ✌
Been looking at getting a jeep, but have to save up first... not quite willing to give up my Camaro yet. Love watching the videos because I can vicariously live until I actually get a jeep.
I have a Currie EZ Deflator and I have been very happy with it. I have some of the Auto Deflators also but they don't always seem to deflate at the same pressure each time I use them.
I use Trailhead brand deflators. They use a small allen wrench to set pressure. I put the on one a time and watched my TPS gauge as the pressure got near where I wanted it I just screwed the allen in to stop deflating. From then on screw all 4 on and let them go. They work very well.
Awesome videos. No beadlocks here running 40” toyo open country m/t, try to go around 15psi by pulling the valve core out , then use a manual gauge and screwdriver to fine tune lol
Great video! I'm actually shopping around now for deflators because crouching at every tire with a pressure gauge sux! I typically air down to 20psi and then go lower if needed
I currently use the Smittybilt R.A.D. RAPID AIR DEFLATOR. Super bang for the buck, very simple and fast. I normally air down to 15PSI on my 35” Pro-Comp MT2’s
I use terafrex tire deflators they work pretty well. I put one on gradually walk around the jeep and install all 4 wait a min maybe 2 and the first one is down to 15ish and i walk around the jeep and remove the rest easy quick
Good video. I’ve not heard about the monster valve before. Currently I use a screw on hose section with a 60 psi gauge & ball valve before a quick disconnect male fitting for venting. Quick connect to my air line let’s me use the same setup fir airing up.
Great Vid, I'm new to offroading and at the suggestion of the group, I air down to 22 psi. I now know better and air down to 15-17 psi, depending on the rockiness of the trail. I drive a 98 xj with 33x11.5 tires. I have the teraflex keychain deflators and was looking for a more enlightened path :0)
My lady an I roll our XJ’s at 10psi no beadlocks anytime we’re wheeling an have never had a bead fail rock crawling. I have 33x12.5 an my lady has 35x12.5
I would like to get a JTBrooks but honestly I like the involvement of a process in your car cuz it allows you to understand your car more and more when you do stuff yourself
I use a valve stem tool right now and just pull them out completely and put it back in when it’s about right then gauge it if I need another psi or two. The ones you didn’t mention are what I wanna upgrade to an that’s the 4 tire system with the valve release.
Hey Ben, I have both the ARB (basically the same thing as the currie EZ deflator) and the staun deflators, my theory goes like this, if I'm with a group, I like to check out the other rigs so I use the stauns and walk away check out some other rigs and talk with folks, if I'm alone or with just 1 other rig, I'll use my ARB EZ deflator cause it's way faster and rather get on with exploring.
I run some 33x12.50x15 MTR/Ks without bead locks on my 98 ZJ. I usually air down to 9-11 psi for staying on top of loose sand and rock crawling. Haven't broken a bead yet. I use the currie ez deflator. You get used to it quickly.
Enjoyed your video on the tire Deflators. I've been a subscriber for a bit and enjoy seeing what topics you're thinking about. I'm currently building my off road supply kit and could use one of the tire deflectors. Keep up the good work.
Love the JTbrooks pro's, although i havnt used them on my jeep seeing as we dont really have rocks here in East TX so my 28psi does fine for the mud and trails but I do use them ALOT on my quad for mud ride to easily set tires to 5psi, great over view on other products too keep it up bud
Smartest thing I've seen for deflate/inflate stuff is two valve stems on the KMC Machete beadlocks. One for compressor or deflate device, other for pressure gage. Works pretty damn well.
I currently have a home made air up air down tire system that connects to all 4 tires at the same time. I run AEV bead locks and I air done to 8psi. My air down set up is awesome but set up is a pain. Would love a quicker way to air down. Happy New Years!!!!
I am running a set of Ko2's of a JL, and I drop to about 15psi. Didn't have any problems in Moad the few trips!!!! Happy New Year to all the JK Gear and Gadgets subs!!!!!
Those JT Brooks deflators are exactly like the barricade deflators I have. The barricade ones are $30 on extreme terrain. Although the JT Brooks pros are pretty sweet because you can actually see the number which is cool
This video was really helpful. Not sure I had seen one like this before. I have the ARB like your giveaway but in digital. Works great and is pretty quick.
I was looking at ordering the new Currie digital purely for the length of the deflator arm. The normal deflator is really hard to get turned and on the stems with my large Trail Ready beadlock rings. I don't need to be entered btw, I have 2 of those normal ones already lol.
Ben, I'm looking to go wheeling for the first time and I definitely want to be able to air down. I picked up a 2012 JKU Sport and did some mods already. (A lot from your videos!)
Love the automatic tire deflators. I have the Stauns. Pretty much the same but I want to get the JT pros. Entering the giveaway too of course. My XJ needs a deflator. So why not. Thanks for all your videos. Nice work
Great video. Didn't think there was thst many ways to deflate.. I deflate my Baja Claws with a nail it a stick I find on the trail so a real deflator would be awesome
I have one of the $20 amazon EZ deflator ones that I have been using for the past 2 years. It works, but the gauge is off by about 3psi from any other gauge I use. At least it's consistently wrong, so I just aim accordingly. On the trail I run 12psi with no doors/no top/day gear, and 16psi with doors/top/ multi day gear. Sometimes terrain dictates otherwise.
The free option works just fine, it’s more of convenience to use a valve stem removal things. I do all 4 of mine from 38psi to 18/20psi the same speed as my buddy with a boulder dynamics or whatever the name is valve stem remover thing
Good info. Thanks. I run around 10-13 on 33's and doing well. I do like the auto deflate. I could be doing other things to get on the trail while those are deflating. Happy trails, and keep the rubber side down. 😉
Thanks for the wonderful information!! I use R.A.D.S. Valve Stems. They are similar to the Monster Valves but instead install like a traditional valve stem. You can install in a second drilled(not tapped) hole in your wheel if you choose or just use the existing one. The deflation collar is easy to use and you just thread it open or closed and can release or check pressures. It is very fast and even though it becomes a single wheel at a time process I truly enjoy the speed and simplicity. Thanks again for the giveaway!!
RAD valves were nice but are no longer around as far as I know. BTW, Power Tank does make a new Monster Valve that does not require thread tapping and is much easier to install.
Great video! I've never aired down because I've never had a good way to do so but this would make it much more convenient to do so when hitting the trails!
Great vid, this is my first Jeep and love it. Plan on retirement in a few years and hopping to have her built into an awesome overland rig by then. Looking forward to collecting all the gear one needs to be safe and efficient on the trails. Keep up the great videos.
Just subscribed the other day. Love the blue collar approach to Jeep videos, very informative. Love the Valve puller with gauge, I run 40's and beadlocks on my JKU daily driver but use a 2 buck valve core puller and traditional pressure gauge when I wheel. Just sit there listen to it go down, and periodically check the pressure with a traditional tire pressure gauge. Love the idea of having these integrated into one tool, and that it is Currie, matchy match my rear RockJock 60 :-)
Great channel man! Just got a 2012 JK , and back into wheeling after many years. Keep up the great work! P.S. I have an X5 that’s got me the overland bug , with a roof top tent and an awning, hence the Jeep purchase. Maybe an awning set up could solve your problem of no “set” for shooting videos. Your set could be anywhere you want ✌🏻
Another option is to carry a core remover, remove the core, and eyeball it. I have a friend that does this; works great for him. Of course you should carry extra cores in case you lose one.
Great videos. I currently use a near by pebble and tire gauge. I like to air down to 22 on average but have gone down to 20 on occasion, depending on the terrain.
Great video and info man, thank you. Jeep is looking great with the new bumper as well! I believe I saw the JT Brooks ones at a Jeep event at mount Washington a while back. Awesome idea, too pricey for how often they’d be used on my rig.

gavin frost no issues with rain! Helps a ton with letting heat out, do it!
I run to about 18 on my JK.

Nice video! I have the trailhead defaltors and my kids call them the geesers b/c of the noise they make when they air down.
Just getting back into wheeling, took your advice on the JL hood latches and ordered a set. Great videos and thanks for making them!
I run some 33x12.50x15 MTR/Ks without bead locks on my 98 ZJ. I usually air down to 9-11 psi for staying on top of loose sand and rock crawling. Haven't broken a bead yet.

Thank you! And running good! Was going to make a video but honestly it was just plug and scan lol
Awesome info on what to buy, options wise. Of course I need to see a video of what you use to inflate back up.
Thanks for the info. Tons of options, and Currie makes good stuff. Its rad you're having a give a way. Let em go, and then put her in 4low.
Just stumbled across your channel and love it. I just purchased the teraflex deflators last week.
I use a teraflex keychain air deflator. I go down 20ish psi. I Only air down for a little extra comfort on the trails.
So awesome with all the giveaways lately! Thanks for the helpful review of air down options.
This is a great giveaway! My kids and I are new to offroading. We currently use a standard tire guage. This would be a time saver!

Good info and comparison I've been doing it the cheap way. I could use the deflator
Looking to pickup one of those gauge/deflators. Thanks for the vid.
Great video. I use a the old school pen air gauge. It takes forever
I air down to 17psi. Love the video! I also use the pen style deflator to air down.
Thanks for the video not wheeling just yet doing my research and you guys are helping me become propered for fun keep the knowledge coming
Thanks for the information on the difference options and how each works
Haven't aired down yet. Just bought a JKU, only got it dirty 3 times so far.
Appreciate this video!! Will be offroading soon and needed to see what was worth buying
Good info.
Thank you for the information usually I don’t air down my tires because I have to do it manually and it takes too long
I’ve never aired down before and all my friends say it’s the way to go!! Love to win that gauge to help get me started! Love the channel buddy
It is! Plus the ride is so much smoother, the tires absorb a lot of the harsh bumps
I usually go down to 20 but I've been down as far as 13 with no problems yet. Takes a while with my regular ol tire gauge.
I have a cheap one you pull the valve stem with. Works well. I’d love some jt brooks
Great video! I've never aired down because I've never had a good way to do so but this would make it much more convenient to do so when hitting the trails!
This sure beats using a twig. Would love to win it! Love the channel and keep up the good work.
Would be a great addition to the trail bag! Thanks for the good informational videos.
Great vid, this is my first Jeep and love it. Plan on retirement in a few years and hopping to have her built into an awesome overland rig by then. Looking forward to collecting all the gear one needs to be safe and efficient on the trails. Keep up the great videos.
Awesome videos ! I go to 15lbs psi , would love a deflator !
My tire deflator just broke, this helped a lot
Great review on airing down. I haven't purchased anything yet for the trails. So this was helpful. thanks!!
I've been looking at the Curries. I don't have much of a need to air down a bunch but would love to pick up a free Currie.
I air down with the first on this video. Not fun, but it’s all I’ve got. Awesome video!
Thanks Ben. And congrats to the guy who won the axle. I currently don't have a way of easily airing down so it would be cool to win that Currie. 🤘🏻
Just bought my wife a Rubicon a couple months ago, this would be a nice add-on.
Hi, Ben. Good information. I usually air down to 15 on non beadlock 10.5 x33 on my YJ
Another option is to carry a core remover, remove the core, and eyeball it. I have a friend that does this; works great for him. Of course you should carry extra cores in case you lose one.
First time Jeep owner, like your videos man
Good video. I air down to 15 psi if there is air available since I do not have my own compressor yet. I'm still deciding on which ARB to run with.
Haven’t aired down yet but would like to soon once I get a air compressor to air them back up when done so I can safely get home!
Austin Bryant google “power tank diy”. Just went with a similar set up and am ready to hit the trails!
When it comes to airing down its not necessarily about time, its about accuracy and comfort (bending or kneeling down)
Great videos.
