Thank you for doing this test. I've always wondered how accurate the tire gauges I've used over the years were. Purchased the JACO Digital from your link.
Just a suggestion, I know you usually put different manufacturers products up against each other but what about topics like overall best car accessories?
Todd, with the seasons changing in KC, a long term (6 month time span) video idea would be to test several outdoor thermometers. Whether they be tiny glass vials suction-cupped to a window, or a battery-operated station 50ft from a house. :)
Great test! I work for JOES Racing Products and I'm glad to see our economy gauge performed decent. We also have a pro tire gauge (model 32317) that is about $10 more that has a more accurate gauge head that we recommend for racing. The head is actually made by the same people that make Longacres, but we get the 2.5" head while they get the 2". We also have a digital gauge that is really accurate, and a $1,200 precision digital gauge that is stupid accurate that gets hand calibrated on a $20,000 fluke deadweight tester. When I get into work Monday I'm definitely going to share this video with engineering, product sourcing, and assembly. We are a small family run company of about 30 people and we are always trying to improve!
I gotta say i thought that the JOES gauge looked really cool. I love how the face looks. I think it performed well enough for me to buy one if i ever have the need. Keep up the good work!
I've got a 32317. Exactly matches both my Milton gauges. I keep those in my vehicles. The Joe's gauge is so handy to use and adjust tire pressure with. So easy to read precisely. It stays in my garage. Great product.

After testing over 20 gauges, this does not surprise me ... the calibration from unit to unit was huge. Showing how junky that majority of them are, or lack of quality control.
I've been wanting him to do this kind of testing for a long time. A lot of the products he tests are the same product with a different name on the box. The QC variance is huge with some of that stuff, and it has nothing to do with the brand. The fans he tested, for example.
That Rhino USA gauge was alarming. Imagine if you bought that as your only gauge and it's consistently off by 10lbs... how would you know? Unacceptable to let that through QC.
I ordered an ETENWOLF T300 gauge from Amazon and it came in yesterday. The box and information inside was much better than I expected all the way around. The calibration and certification of accuracy card really surprised me. So much so that I involuntarily blurted out “That’s impressive!”
I ordered one on Sept. 12th 2024. Amazon said I would get it on the 16th. Then today they emailed me an update. Now they saying I might get it between Sept 23 - 26th.
Mine arrived today. I have had such bad luck with tire gauges most just give me a rough estimate of what the pressure is. Just checked all 4 tires 3 times and they all read the same all 3 times so I might have a keeper!
I, too, have made several purchasing decisions after watching Project Farm videos. Now, I off to the interwebs to purchase 2 Jaco digital pressure gauges for my wife's car and my truck.
Your reviews have saved me more than I can afford to donate, but instead of upgrading my tire pressure gauge to that Etenwolf, I'll just give you the $10 to help you keep doing what you're doing. Thanks for your hard work!
@@mudknot9000 did the 60 days include tests to see if she can run with all bananas in the crankcase and an accelerated aging and corrosion check with that spray bottle stuff?
This is an S-tier TH-cam channel. I work in automotive repair, and have found a lot of consumer gauges to be barely usable. Nearly every major retailer is absolutely flooded by overpriced garbage with a few gems here and there. I have one of the gauges you tested and also found it to be inconsistent, but you'd never know it based on the glowing Amazon reviews page. Thanks to your testing, I'll be picking up a couple of Etenwolfs as that level of accuracy for $10 is unprecedented, and we'd never know it without this video.
Nobody who reviews on Amazon is testing against certified gauges. I've got that Jaco digital, and I like it, but I wouldn't swear to it's accuracy. It gives me some confidence that PF had accurate results with two of them.
I have a couple of the entenwolf gauges, one in the car and one in the garage. So far I've had great luck with them. But thanks for the testing project farm, there's so many tire gauges out there, and most of them are inaccurate.
Great to see our gauges performed at the top of your testing! We take great pride in the accuracy and quality of our pressure instruments and tools. For those wondering, the 200 psi digital gauge will be restocked on Amazon this week!
I'm an ASE certified suspension tech. My gauge at work, is a $100 napa tire professional gauge and has been repeatedly dead nuts on. At home, I have the tested Merlin gauge. Thank you for the time and energy it takes you to make all these videos Todd.

@@TadpoleTrainer, China has trains that run nearly 200 miles an hour. If they can build those there's no reason they can't build anything to high precision, but it's simply a matter of how much profit can they make delivering cheap goods to the American and worldwide consumer. If everybody stopped buying Chinese made stuff for 3 or 4 months they might get wise, up their game, and produce a better product. Unfortunately, from the manufacturer to the distributor to the corporation that is having rebranded crap made in China for them to the end-user/consumer, NOBODY wants to rock the boat. Product must keep flowing, no matter how crappy, and distribution must be allowed to continue making profit off of it, and the consumer must be allowed to buy junk and promptly discard it, and fill up the landfill. Global capitalism knows nothing else.

Обнаружил я это когда увидел ужасный износ по бокам при том,что колесо ничего не задевало. А это было новое колесо, хоть не дорогое

@@ProjectFarm OLight makes some very good flashlights, I have an OLight headlamp I have been using with no issues for 6, going on 7 years.. current headlamp is the Perun series (fullsize). They also make a portable folding worklamp called the Swivel series. @ProjectFarm, please reach out to me if planning to compare said items. I can provide you with more information, having been a happy customer of theirs since 2014.
I.use a Jaco digital gauge for my race tires on my autocross track cars. I've been very happy with it, and when I thought I had a problem with the head, I called the company and left a voicemail. They never called back, instead there was a replacement head in my mailbox a few days later. I had called because of it losing pressure. When I got ready to remove the original head, I discovered that it was coming unthreaded. I tightened it back up and it's worked perfectly for the last two years. It's also never loosened up either. Great tool, and great customer support!
I got a Jaco dial gauge, and it was really inaccurate compared to 3 other random gauges I had. I sent them an email, and they sent me a replacement gauge quickly, and it was comparable to the others when I checked it. They seem to stand by their products.
I have 2 Jaco gauges and both of them pretty much read identically. I had no idea they were such a good tire gauge. I’m even more impressed with my purchase.
Jaco also makes great self-locking quick connect chucks and nozzles for schrader valves. I don't work for them, but I do believe in promoting companies that still make great products and back them up with customer service...
Yep, I checked reviews from several sources and some time ago I settled on the Jaco digitals, both the stand-alone and the inline air compressor combo. They have worked well and and are quality products.
I have the regular Jaco. It bleeds a little when removed from the stem, but works great. As having an older all wheel drive vehicle, I find it most important that all tires have the same pressure. Too cheap to get the TPMS system going again. I then use a stick Guage to double check, and they are always 1# off. Close enough. I check tire wear regularly and carry a Dewalt 20V inflator in the trunk, as well as a Jump n Carry 600. I've learned that it sucks to have a flat spare tire or a dead battery with no one to help jump start.
Project Farm is the only TH-cam channel that you might want to actually watch at slower than 1X speed to soak it all in vs. other channels that I run at 1.25X, 1.5X, or even higher to cut through unnecessary BS. Great job on the review. You don't know how accurate what you have is until you really know. Thanks!
I’ve been only using US-made Milton. I keep one on my motorcycle, however, during the last trip, I had it packed away that I didn’t have access to the cage, and I forgot to check my tires before I headed out. So I just bought a no-name gage at a gas station and checked. I had a little panic because it looked like both my tires were low. I got back home. Got my Milton out. Got the compressor ready. And my tires were absolutely perfect. The no-name gas gauge was about six PSI off, which is dangerous for lower pressure tires.
I heard a story of a guy who destroyed 2 new tires on his travel trailer on a long road trip before learning his digital gauge was WAY off, so when the 3rd replacement tire was put on he questioned letting air out and "fixing" the shops overpressure and the tire survived... Then he checked his gauge and it was off by about 10 psi, causing him to under inflate all his tires resulting in tread separation.
I thought the Milton's performed very well, especially the pencil gauge. It's not the first time I'm not in agreement with Todd's conclusions as some of the tests he uses seem to lean towards circumstances most of us are not likely to encounter. He does, needless to say, outstanding videos nothwithstanding.
That would be too hard to test, as you cant just throw a bunch of different brands in a video and say "this is the best" since you are supposed to use a different ultrasonic frequency for different tasks and items, as well as how dirty they are or what type of contaminant you are trying to get off.
@LordSaliss most of the consumer grade ones just have temp and time adjustments. Throw in some carbon covered valves or rusted bolts into each and let them run at 50°C for 20 minutes and compare. Doesn't need to be anything too crazy
After almost 20yrs using an ultrasonic to clean things for scuba I can say a mix provided by GMC Scuba works amazingly well. The discarded dirty liquid left from scuba stuff has worked on bolts and things for me in the past. The best I can tell its phosphoric acid plus Blue gold and simple green. The odor is like windex but more mild. Great stuff, super expensive but you can filter it and get a lot of use from it.
@@ProjectFarm disappointing that most of your comments are cookie cutter responses. The comment you replied to isn’t even feedback. Edit: yikes dude. I just saw the generous $100 tip someone left and your only response was “thanks!” Oof
This has been a concern of mine for many years. Thank you so much for all the effort and time involved in performing this testing. This is very valuable information and underscores the need for accurate and frequent tire pressure checks to get the maximum safety and life out of tires. Yet another great and helpful video!
I could binge watch this TH-cam channel for a very long time! You know it’s a good channel when you look forward to the newest videos every week. Keep up the amazing work!
I’ve been really happy with the Merlin products. Have them all over. In the shop. In the trucks. On the lawnmower. Seem accurate enough for my needs and cheap! Project Farm remains the most helpful channel on TH-cam!! Thanks!!
Thanks Todd. I appreciate you evaluating accuracy but also mentioning other factors like readability, ease of use, sealing ability is very helpful. You know you can skip the videos and just tell us what to buy, the level of trust you have established with your viewers means we only watch the whole videos for the entertainment value.
What was shocking was the variation between some pairs. It's actually worse if he bought the pair at same time from the same seller. They'd likely be from the same batch - so thats item to item variation. So a lot of them had little or no Q/A and/or degraded in transit. The ones claiming 1.5% accuracy should be within 0.3 lb at 20psi so even if the pair was the very highest and lowest they should be within 0.6lb of each other. Some were hugely worse than that.
I love when I end up having purchased the product that wins in these tests. I researched and struggled with finding accurate gauges and ended up buying the Jaco digital gauge. It always seemed to be good, but I just never really know since I never had anything to test it against other than all the "unreliable" gauges I already have and use. So this just gives me that extra bit of confidence that I made the right choice, and that the research paid off. Thanks for your great work. Keep it up! This channel has to be one the most valuable resources for consumer information out there.
Thanks for the great video. The Milton Dual Head gauge is available in a version that allows calibration. When I first bought mine, I found a racing shop that had a gauge calibration setup. They allowed me to check and calibrate my gauge for free. It was originally off by 1-psi or so at the pressures that I normally use (60-80 psi), so I calibrated it to zero error. About two years later, I re-checked it and it is still error-free.
My vehicles need tire pressures anywhere from 30 to 35 psi and based on your tests, the Etenwolf is perfect. Just ordered 2 using your link. Maybe you could do a version of this using those pumps that include a digital gauge, where you set the tire pressure you want, and it automatically pumps the tire until it reaches the pressure you set, then turns off. I bought a Husky 1002 882 919 and I like how it works, but now I'm going to check the accuracy with the Etenwolf when it arrives. Thank you for being one of the most useful as well as entertaining channels on TH-cam!
Thank you for providing a resource to send people when they wonder why the tire shop overfills their tires and everything is 6psi low by the time they get home. I'm so happy you included the part with hot and cold weather. I live in Vermont and it becomes apparent that some gauges suck when you're out there at 0600 when it's -15f and you notice one of your tires looks tired.
I've always liked the simple pencil gauges because they cost almost nothing, take up no room in the glovebox and don't require batteries. Great video and thanks for showing.
Same here. I have two PCL pencil gauges made in Sheffield, UK. They both read 3psi over compared to the Master Gauge at the tyre repair shop I use, so I take that into account when checking and inflating.
My father and I did similar- him with his Schrader pencil gauges, one similar to the Milton dual head, and his tire inflators- and I brought my Autometer and Milton gauges. Nothing lined up but the Schrader was the most consistent. Thanks for bringing back a great memory with my father 😊
What a grest video always helpful pressure guages being accurate is very important especially when offroading and airing down love this video would love to see you test the Morrflate Guages 19:34 @Project Farm
Looks like they actually calibrate them, or use a quality sensor. The harbor freight inflator / gauge is very good too... Good to know since it's fairly common.
@@volvo09 I got one a few months ago after my ancient pencil one self destructed. Was really impressed when the box came with a hand written calibration card!
"A man with one watch knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never quite sure." Excellent comparison video and the variety of results is amazing.
Nothing but Milton pencils for my cars, for nearly 50 years. U.S. made, brass bodies, no batteries to die/leak, no gauges to go bad, and absolute minimum space for storage.
* No batteries to leak* is extremely important for a device that probably sits in the glove box or the toolbox in the back of the car and only gets taken out and used 3 or 4 times a year. For what it's worth, I only use Eveready Lithium-max AA and AAA batteries for anything that's going to sit in the car or in a drawer and maybe only get used or tested a few times a year. You definitely want the best batteries possible in a flashlight that's going to be stored/stowed away in the car!
We need Todd right where he is, but I could see him move up. "Ok today we are going to be testing rockets. SpaceX, Boeing, Lockheed, Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, Northrup Grummin, and others. I buy these rockets with my own money so I appreciate your support."
Based on the technology used to measure, typically gauges are not as accurate on the low end. I have the AstroAI and the good old Milton pencil. I'm very happy with their accuracy. This test was excellent because you used 3 temp ranges they could be used in. I have purchased tire pressure gauges for friends because it is very important in the operation of your vehicle.
I've had many tire gauges through the years, and I have always relied heavily on the Milton brand. The last one I purchased was the S-506, which is a dual chuck inflator gauge. It's all analog, and one thing I like about it is I can calibrate easily. I really appreciate your channel and your hard work. I have used your suggestions many times! Proud to be a Patreon subscriber!
I watch the reviews, even for products I really don't need, just to see how you test, and the results. Best review channel , by far, just for the straight up honesty and great tests !!
Well done! As someone that is very frequently checking/airing down/inflating tires for street driving, off road and on motorcycles for grip, comfort and safety, this exhaustive test is awesome. For all the reasons you mentioned, the Etenwolf is going in my cart as an extra.
Good test and I have seen similar results. The best guages use a locking head and have a bleeder valve. I've had great luck with Power Tank, Jaco, and Accu Guage in analog and digital, and they work well all reading within 1 psi of each other. I've recently used a no-name Amazon special, and surprisingly, it worked well, so I left it in a remote shop where I don't use it much, but occasionally need air in a trailer tire.
I bought the Etenwolf gauge and it is an excellent value for money. A specific thing I want to mention is that it comes with a well-written and illustrated instruction sheet. Thst isso different than many other Chinese-produced merchandise today. Your outstanding reviews have saved my hundreds of bucks in just the last year, thank you so much!
This reminds me of when I go to the hardware store and check out the outdoor thermometers and they all have different reading temperatures. Great video.
This confirms my suspicions about tire gauges, some are accurate while others are worse than just feeling the tire by hand. It's just hard to tell with no reference at hand.
GREAT Video! I can only imagine that you were under a lot of Pressure to get this done. Some of the pricey ones are definitely over inflated hype. I was amazed at how well the Digitals did, it really deflates the notion that analog is better, at least in this case.
Please woodworking finishes next. There are new technology out there like UV-activated finishes which cures instant, epoxy, lacquer, ceramic finishes and all the other traditional.
Exactly what I needed to learn since I purchased a 3/4-ton HD pickup truck that needs the tires pressurized beyond the range (up to 80psi) of my SUV gauge. I can’t thank you enough. I’m now buying 3 JACO digital gauges, for me and our two sons, because of this. THANK YOU!
I bought the Merlin guage a few days ago to check and inflate the tire pressure in my truck. It works great with my portable air compressor. Thank you for such a great video!
Basically what we found through this thorough testing is it probably 90% of the vehicles on the road are caring the wrong tire pressure. Great video as usual for Project Farm.
Yep, very misleading. I've been aware of this company for a while due to their recovery gear, but I would never purchase anything from them on principal.
Out of pure accident, I purchased the Jaco ElitePro Digital and was super happy with the choice. It's been solid with accuracy in my Jeeps and hasn't let me down. I am glad to see that it compared well to the others. Great test!!!
It's astonishing how two identical gauges can show such a big difference! The company needs to wake up and stop selling us subpar products while making us believe they're made in the USA. Great job on the review!
I own the Jaco, and it's been a very good tool. I bought it because of the good reviews, and your test and my own experience confirm it. I have a FJR 1300 motorcycle, and with the side cases and the shaft drive, it's much easier to get to the rear tire stem with the flex hose and swivel head. I also have 3 Accu Gauge digital gauges that read the same as the Jaco, and have been very reliable. I don't have any Milton gauges, but they make the best air tool fittings. Everything I have from Milton has been high commercial grade quality and very durable.
I used to have a fancy eastwood tire gauge when I was a mechanic. Unfortunately it broke before i changed professions and now keep the merlin harborfreight on my garage. Good to know it is acurate!
To the rescue! I've been complaining about this for a few months how I couldn't trust my gauges and couldn't afford to do all the testing myself. People looked at me like I was silly for not trusting whatever random stuff is available out there. Much appreciated!
It's disgustingly eye opening to see how inaccurate most of these gauges are, we are supposed to trust them to keep your investment on your tire life, if they are off by 4 psi then it's basically useless
As someone who does a lot of rock crawling in the sierra nevadas this is a very useful video. We air down 8-15psi then air back up to street pressure. Needless to say equipment gets tossed around a lot and see a lot of variation in temperature since usuallat these dont leave the rigs. 100+ degree in vehicles, and depending on where you live or go crawling you can see 10-30 degree winters.
I bought a Merlin today, I actually came on here to quickly see how people are putting the batteries in. It seems the jacket is glued on. I'm not certain if I should cut the little square on the back *. ... funny this video came up and after watching I have 0 buyers remorse. Very thorough. This weekend only they're $19.99; and I paid $6 for a two year warranty. (*26$) 10/26/24-10/27/24. With winter coming this is a perfectly timed video!
I just want to say that I just ran across and watched your 4-year old video, "Does Project Farm Actually Farm? Let's find out!" Even though I love all of your amazing videos, your actual farming video was the most amazing one I've seen yet! Now, I've never been on a proper farm (my dad said he grew up on a farm-- and hated it!), but I found the machines you use and their care and repair, the mowing and collecting hay, absolutely fascinating! Living in Kentucky, I drive along lots of road and highways with those huge rolls of-- honestly, I had no idea what they were, or what they were for!-- but now, because of your video, I know! Farming is one of the least-appreciated but most important missions there is, so I wanted to say God Bless You and all of the other farmers that keep us from starving to death, I truly, truly appreciate the work you do on the farm, and wish God's blessing and protection on you and your family, always!

Yep, I kinda wish there was a law that any business or product with USA in the name must be made in America to be sold here.

@@TadpoleTrainer yes but more than 1 brand did it well and at cheap price points. No real good excuses for the poor performers
Thanks!
Thanks!
No kidding. I also watch most YT videos at 1.25 or 1.5. Not Todd’s - 1.0 and pause a lot.
Thanks for sharing!
EXACTLY!! 5 to 8 Lbs on a motorcycle can be the difference between rubber side down and disaster......
I’ve been using a USA-made Milton tire inflator in the shop for a few years. One of the only brands that sells them
I thought the Milton's performed very well, especially the pencil gauge. It's not the first time I'm not in agreement with Todd's conclusions as some of the tests he uses seem to lean towards circumstances most of us are not likely to encounter. He does, needless to say, outstanding videos nothwithstanding.
Can you test ultrasonic cleaners next? The machines themselves, and then degreasers
Thank you for the video idea!

Thanks for supporting the channel! I really appreciate it!
I really like how you did this with TWO tire gauges for each brand!
Thanks!

It always seemed to be good, but I just never really know since I never had anything to test it against other than all the "unreliable" gauges I already have and use.

I've always liked the simple pencil gauges because they cost almost nothing, take up no room in the glovebox and don't require batteries. Great video and thanks for showing.
They also fit in a pocket easily if you check a lot of tires.
Same here. I have two PCL pencil gauges made in Sheffield, UK. They both read 3psi over compared to the Master Gauge at the tyre repair shop I use, so I take that into account when checking and inflating.
Also, surprisingly tough when you inevitably drop them

To think of all the times I've carefully adjusted a tire pressure to the exact psi called for only for my gauge to unknowingly be off 5 psi... 😂
If it's consistent, then it doesn't matter if it's off, assuming you've got a reference to compare to. Just add the error into the reading.
Waiting for years for this one.

“The first [brand redacted] gauge hit the 40psi mark, and the second gauge just about hit cousin Eddie in the forehead” 🤣🤣🤣
Poor cousin Eddie takes a beating in some of his videos.
@@vapor3764 Hopefully, cousin Eddie has good insurance!
Good morning everyone..!!!!
Good morning!!
Thanks.

Thanks!
