I am a 71 year old woman, with not much DIY experience, who has put up with my bedroom door not latching shut for over 10 years. I watched your video and successfully solved the problem in 15 mins. Thank you so much!
I'm someone who learns by watching and listening first before giving it go. You have taught me so much in such a short period of time my man. Thank you so much. Now I don't feel as much of a DIY dimwit. Go well brother. 🙏
Best channel ever! We just moved into a pretty old house and I’ve managed to fix so many things by myself thanks to your video! Keep up the good work ❤😊
Appreciate these vids man, was quoted almost three hungy for a bath tap reseal n new set recently that was leaking but watched your how to and got it done myself for under $50. The extra confidence is greatly appreciated in these hard times 💪🙏❤️
Thank you, Bill. I have learned from you how to fix a couple of things in my house. You do a good job of explaining and showing what to do and it's great that you are Australian using products available here. I know who to check out first for any DIY job I need to tackle! Very happy me😊.
I am a bit perplexed with the first option to fix the latching issue. Surely when you tighten the screws up again the strike plate will move back to the original position since it has countersunk holes for the countersink screw heads? Does that not happen and if now why not? Genuinely interested so I don't have to remove the strike plates any more and file the damn thing down for the latch to fit into the hole. *Thank you.* 👍👍
Thank you for mentioning that issue. It seems my front door has only been pretending to close and lock - for months. (What a joke on me). Then, gusts of wind have opened it. Mine is a very old door in a very old frame. If you had not mentioned the countersink potential problem, I would have been wondering why the easy fix did not work, thinking it was my fault. Clearly, Bill is working with new. I suspect I will need a carpenter - if I can find one. Thank you.
Cheers Bill, I've got a couple of doors with this exact problem. My dog might come looking for you though, she has worked out a nose bump will open those doors and she can let herself in!
Bill i love ya, but was waiting for the part where you show how to move the strikeplate over a little bit more. Did you do the same technique and just bash it with the chisel a little further? Or was there more work involved to move the strike plate more than a couple milimeters only? Thanks mate love your work as always
Hey Bill, love your videos. Suggestion though, instead of using timber filler for the gap, use gloss finish . Generally get away with one coat of gloss enamel over the top instead of two coats. Cheers mate keep up the great videos
I have this issue w a brand new prehung door. The installer said that was normal (to have to forcefully slam the door shut) but there is no way that is true. I might try this "slightly unscrew and chisel pound it" into submission tomorrow. Hopefully I won't make it worse.
Hi i have a question about key not working in lock. The key on the outside is difficult to get into the lock and impossible to turn. However, from the inside the key goes in no problem and locks easily. Is there a fix for this please.
What if the strike plate is too high? It looks like my door has sunk is there a renter friensly way to fix this without needing to deal with the landlord? Theyre the its your problem type. Even when its 100% their property and duty to fix stuff and if i did theyd charge me for it depsite the fact id be investing time money etc into their property.

Brilliant matey. Perfect resolution ❤
Additionally you can modify the striker plate with a rotary tool, or if you need the tiniest bit more clearance a file.

Same problem happened to me. Thanks for this video I fixed it. Thanks bro
I wonder if doors shift a little season to season. Expanding in the heat of Summer and contracting during the cold Winter months.
They do shift a bit however if they are aligned correctly to begin with most of the time there won’t be any issues 👍
@@billshowto Thanks mate. And thanks for the channel you have here. I learn so much.
Thanks pops!

Did you drill new screw holes when moving the strike plate over??

Perfectionism dude. Please don't use "OCD" in that ignorant way. Good video otherwise.
