- Stuttgart Arkansas is the duck hunting world’s worst kept secret. It is, after all, the rice and duck capital of the world. The city sits in the heart of the Arkansas Delta, and the timber and acorns that flood each winter here are the ancient draw for mallards and hunters alike. In this episode, Sean Weaver is joined by Anne Marie Doramus and Clay Newcomb for the last week of duck season. The mallards are thick, the hunting pressure intense, and we see first hand why Arkansas is on the bucket list for duck hunters everywhere.

Moved to Arkansas in 2016 and picked up duck hunting. Took me a while to figure it out, but it's as much fun as I've ever had outdoors. With a good dog it's even better. Limited out several times last season, all on public.
Best episode of the season so far, I think Meateater can afford you a new motor for the next season.

Man! I really enjoy seeing the dogs work in these duck episodes. They’re just laser focused on the incoming ducks and so efficient with recovery !
There's no substitute to hunting with dogs, I have two labs and their intensity for ducks makes me focus and hope I can make every shot for their sake.
Your boat troubles throughout this season is the exact reason I switched to kayaks 2 years ago.
Not putting you down at all, I love kayaks, but hunting around the metro for the past few years, they’re not an option here. Not in the timber anyways. You’ll die in the metro if you take a kayak
@@noahhearron5955 I bet. I hunt in Wisconsin in sloughs in the woods, Rivers, and marshes. There's a lot of stumps and downed tress. I once broke 9 prop pins in on season.

That public land is some of the toughest duck hunting anywhere in the country, but when you figure it out and put 40 birds on the water in the hole your hunting boy is it something magical

Walpole island and timber hunting is on the bucket list for duck hunting.
That Gore OptifadenMarsh pattern works so well in timber too, there is no need to switch or even consider a new pattern. Especiallybwith the front zip no leak Sitka waders.

Love this hunt we hunted northeast Arkansas a few years ago and we had a Gadwall slaughter it was one of the best hunts we ever had I have a Drake on the wall from that hunt. Far too many people look down on any duck that's not a Green Head those Gadwall taste just as good 😋.
Straight facts I’ll take a pintail over a mallard any day and a limit of gadwalls for supper the next day😂😂😂

I've hunted the Texas coast exclusively thus far and gadwall are a staple species. I've seen mallards only a couple times. Clay is spoiled. Lol

I hunt a lot of public land on the Rio Grande river in New Mexico it all depends on the winter on how we will be able to hunt its a lot of spot and stalk scouting in my area its very difficult but I have developed a way to hunt ducks lots of walking though nice video. Hunting in a duck camp is definitely on my bucket list

I can see one of three things with Sean’s boat: 1. He forgot to use Sea Foam Motor Treatment like you kind folks are always telling us to do. 2. It’s the next Das Boat. 3. It will eventually end up in a F*d Up Old Deer Stands book.

I'm not a diehard duck hunter by any stretch, but how does one person accumulate that many instances of boat trouble that quickly?
Great episode. I enjoy the duck calling. I have some duck calls, but they can be a duck repellent on occasion in Florida so I don’t use them much. Any ideas for a potential duck lore/duck camp dinners giveaway or sweepstakes?

Thanks for the tip! I’ll practice even without the mallards. Closest thing to a mallard is a mottled duck, but they are really hard to call compared to mallards. However, could get one and call others that I see as an experiment.
It might just be me, but this episode felt as though our regulars were kind of dismissive of their host. Maybe just the way the footage was cut. But it seemed to me like she was very welcoming and would have had something to add to the conversation, but did not get the chance.

That place has ducks sure. But they also have HUGE whitetail deer if I remember correctly there was lots of soybean fields too. I help build a real nice cabin there. There like a little duck cabin neighborhood there

Looks fairly similar to the Avery Heritage Gunner Jacket
It’s generally referred to as duck camo. I’m not super smart on the history of it but it’s just kinda an older American camo that some companies occasionally do reproductions on, or can be found in thrift stores. Another similar pattern is the marine corps frog skin pattern from the pacific in WWII
