Don't swap the AC control module without disconnecting the battery. You will trip an airbag light otherwise. The switches in the bottom are interchangable between modules. Just pop the frame and the switches out of the old one and pop them in the new one.
Mine just stopped working won't blow no cool or heated air so defrosters don't work and the seat warmers stopped working as well buttons light up and check fuses already any ideaa
I'm gonna try this asap, I have the exact same problem! Just a hint though, unplugging the ac panel without disconnecting the battery can trip an error code
I dont have exact symptoms but mine all buttons work n all lights up n the motor to turn the fans inside work, i can hear the motors goimg but nothing comes out at all, ive check fuses , what now , thnx
Mine does that and the stereo buttons too, but if I open it and clean it, like the contacts would it work?, I have seen that weird thing even on toys and several electronic devices
Not shown in this video (which I really wish you did) is that you have to pull the entire unit out to get that bottom half out. Screws on the other side hold the AC control unit on the subframe thing (so not just the clips are holding it in!). Maybe you could finagle the thing out without pulling the unit out but good luck getting to the screws on the back side. You are better off pulling the entire unit out to get good access to that. I've also had to pop off the shifter decor frame from the central unit to keep it from obstructing things when pulling it out as well. This was on top of having to pull the shifter all the way back so it wasn't in the way. I don't know maybe it's because you got a different model Volvo (or some bone head mechanic who last worked on it didn't put the screws back in. :P ) but yeah ours had screws so I had to pull the unit out to get at them and get good leverage to pull the ac unit out after working on the clips. It did not want to come out while I was also wrestling with the main unit while in the car. The decor frame attached to the main unit also has screws on the top holding it in. 3 of them. So be remember those when pulling it off. Be warned, it's not as easy as the video shows it to be. It's a job and a half to get this damn thing out. Anyways my mom's car was having issues with blower not turning on so she asked me to look at it. it appears the control unit is fine. I retouched the solder points for the fan control knob and put it backtogether. Forgot to check it prior to pulling the unit out but in any case the LEDs and such respond correctly to the controls so I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the AC control unit. She mentioned the blower would sometimes turn on and run after hitting a bump on the road...seems like something else going on. Trying to convince her not to waste money on a new control unit as I'm sure it's fine. I looked at the thermister thing too. Didn't appear to be broken so didn't resolder that. The vent for it was clogged up with dirt and crap so I did at least clean that out while I had it out. :P It seems like either a wiring issue with the blower or the blower itself is going bad. Not much I can do about that. Told her she probably has to have a mehanic/ac guy look at it.
The problems are the contacts You need to disassemble and use flux to re solder the contacts on the control switch. 2 on one side 3 on the other side of the control switch.
These units all suffer the same problem of a broken thermistor which senses the cabin air temperature. On the front panel there is a small vent above the passenger temperature control. The thermistor lives behind there. It breaks of at the body but sometimes can be resolderd or replaced.
On the money! It stopped working lastnight---sure enough, I found it and it's actually better than it was before! Anyway, my wife told me to thank you---we are in the 3rd day of +105* and her car is black in black---dealer can't get to it 'till Monday, she just WON'T drive mine--- soooo, You are the saver of this weekend, ( not to mention peace in the house) We Thank You.
I thought that it was the control head. Your video confirmed it. Thanks for the tips on getting one with the correct buttons. Now I know what I'm looking for. For other tech's to help you, in my situation: No computer trouble codes. Fan knob wouldn't light any LED's, nor would it change the fan speed (which by the computer data, indicated fan desired was at 91%) - so I knew the fan motor was working.
The panel on the bottom with the switches pops off from the front and there is a bank of plugs that all those switches can plug into. What I’m not sure is if the switches themselves trigger the features they are meant to control no matter what plug they go in because I keep seeing different arrangements of the switches - like several modules I’ve seen gave the rear a/c control switch in very different positions…
Ours has this problem all the time. All five or six lights or whatever show green but the motor doesn’t work. And then all of a sudden 10 minutes after starting it turns on
Very interesting range of possibilities. Thanks! Thought I would add my related problem to the universe and see if it pulls in any comments My blower failed to come back on after I shut it off one day. The defroster had been going for a while, the interior of the car was warm and so I just twisted the fan knob to off. When a little later I wanted heat I twisted the knob, pushed the cabin buttons and noticed the fan was not blowing at all. The lights all responded to my knob twisting and button pushing on/off , high /low but nothing happened. I parked the car, did other stuff and then when I started it again the whole panel stopped lighting up. Still no blower or anything else of course. Now after several different versions of TH-cam presentations, checking all the fuses and confirming sufficient voltage with the battery/ alternator... one other strange thing has happened in this no heat electrical mystery. The interior lights won't come on with the central cieling switches anymore. The courtesy lights come on when the door is opened and stay on until the timer shuts them off still, but I guess the "reader" lights want to get in on this mess with my comfort head game now too. Are there any more fuses that could explain this. It is 2021 and the car is a 2001 V70xc Age and all things so related. But all this so suddenly? A replacement heater control panel looks inevitable and a blower motor too perhaps. But is there a quick fix? It might just be some mechanic didn't reattatch the panel plugs firmly? I may just have a look at that if it comes out like it is shown here on this video. Anyone have a thought about all this? Happy New Year in any case. Please wish me luck.
Guessing you got this figured out. But the interior lights(power windows and locks) issue is common when the computers need to be reset. This happened to me when I was testing a radio with the heart control head unplugged. Disconnect battery and there is a trick with unlocking and relocking the door using the key. Can't remember exact order but it worked for me. Won't fix heater though
@@jasonwakeman thanks for your input. I don't know where I followed through with this issue. I dId finally get heat with an Ebay item replacement climate control panel though...BUT now it is summer ...come.to find out the AC has a very different recognition issue and according to my mechanic there is simply no way to make the vehicle make friends with this alien part for AC. The initial start up actually makes cold air but then something in the back and forth will not let the AC stay on. Anyone know a way to wipe and reprogram an alien climate control module for this?
@@kazparzyxzpenualt8111 oh my gosh! Lol That's what is happening with me. I'm going to the junkyard to get one from a s60 today. Really hope it works, 🥵. I'll let you know. Probably won't help u. Maybe they are all different? Bet if we found a friendly parts counter person at dealership they could tell us 😔
@@jasonwakeman good luck with the part you try! Another thing to be aware of which has been partially explained by my mechanic who consented to look at my problem but actually could not help me with after all is the way the main ECU "talks" to the alien climate control was the relay clicking which happens now upon start up. He said the clicking (which is audible under the drivers side dashboard ) that goes on for a few seconds then stops THEN the alien climate control panel finally lights up after a worrisome pause. And the fan control knob will activate the fan. This was not the way things went with the car before the climate control panel failed. And one other thing I found you might have on your car is a n easy way there is to check the plug terminal that goes to the fan behind the glove box compartment. A sort of secret panel just like the one on the drivers door that has fuses it mirrors. The door has to be open. You can wiggle that junction at least. All those terminal plugs are prone to oxidize and make you think your fan is shot. But this seemed to help me. It is much better than slamming the dashboard a few times which also got the fan working.
@@kazparzyxzpenualt8111 super helpful! Thanks! New one works pretty well, but stays on even when key is off 😂 guess you have to get exact same unit from s immolate year and same model as ecu expects 😥. Thanks for tips, good luck with yours!
yeah changing this whole part because of one faulty contact unbder one knob... I have the same problem. And I dont like what I see here. Its a problem of a car, not a mechanic tho! Good job!
Does anyone got the same problem here? The AC speed control cannot reduce the ac blower, it keeps on full blast everytime turning on the AC, why is that?
Blower control module inside the blower broke most likely. You need to take the blower out and remove the big aluminum cooling body thing. It costs an arm and a leg to replace...
on my 2004 V70 it did the same, but i ignored it for awhile because still work, one day i parked and restart all of a sudden it stopped blowing at all...VOLVO should have a better alternative in remedying this problems...
