    I like that the new Pilot doesn't have all the gadgets like Hyundai/Kia (thats what they sell you on). With Honda, you are getting a time-tested N/A V-6, not an over-worked turbo. I don't need all the bells and whistles that the competition offers. I prefer to keep a vehicle like this for years after the warranty ends (currently have a 2004 Pilot w/200k+ city miles with no repairs) I want a vehicle that can last 20 years, not one that has a heated steering wheel and vibrating seats.

    The drive feel on the 23 is honestly leagues above the previous gen. We just traded our 20 pilot on a 23 touring and the actual drive feel is such an improvement. Suspension, road noise, driver aids, steering feel, pedal feel, all clearly improved. I didn’t realize how much I actually hated the 20 until I drove the 23.
    Also on our 2020 model the driver aids always felt like they were fighting me. It was always tugging the wheel left and right thinking I was drifting, even when I wasn’t. I just thought that’s how it was supposed to be but now in the 23 it does none of that. Driver aids work better AND they don’t tug the wheel around.

      I am very interested to hear that the safety aids are less intrusive. That was a negative in my book, so very glad to hear this. Can you say anything more about the different safety systems? For instance, is the adaptive cruise control reliable, can I drive 70 mph (Highway 5 in CA on some stretches) and move between the slow and fast lanes without it putting on the brakes unnecessarily? I'll be interested to see how the IIHS rates the '23 Pilot - will it achieve the coveted "Top Safety Pick Plus" title. Anything more you can say would be very helpful. Thank you!

    Aside from the engine (which was probably one of the better ones in the class anyway), this seems like a huge upgrade over the previous gen. One small question though: while the middle convertible bench seat thing is brilliant (especially with the under-trunk storage option), it seems like there are no inside arm rests for the second row when that’s removed, right? Not the biggest deal in the world if so, but still, that’d be kinda annoying, particularly for long trips.

    • @ET-dg3ud
      @ET-dg3ud ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that and the latches on the floor that hold the middle seat down are not recessed inside the floor. A tripping hazard.

    • @leighherman5796
      @leighherman5796 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I noticed that too. We have a 2011 Odyssey with the same type of removable middle seat. Taking the seat out leaves you with no inner armrests on the two remaining seats... so in our house the middle seat rarely gets removed. Too bad Honda didn't figure out a way to integrate armrests in the outer seats to make them "true" captain's chairs when the middle seat id removed. And... those exposed latches are indeed a tripping hazard.

It is great they have kept the V6 but horrible Honda insists for some reason to continue to use timing belts. I like the Honda Pilot because of the widest width between wheel wells...I can add a sheet of plywood, sheetrock or 2 extra large dog boxes side by side inside a Pilot. I also like there 6-cylinder engine that is likely to last much longer than those 4-cylinder engines in some SUVs. I like the All Wheel Drive up here in Alaska for winter driving. NO CVT, reliable 9 or 10 speed transmission.

    I like the look of the Odyssey. The outgoing Pilot did not look as much like a mini van as it just looked like a fat jelly bean. 2023 Pilot has DNA from the handsome Acura MDX. I've been thinking about getting the MDX with its 3.5l V6. I wonder if the V6 in this 2023 is based on the same engine.

      It is the same block, but it has dual overhead cams, so very different heads than MDX and other Honda V6 engines, also no VTEC. It does emit less toxic pollutants which is mean reason Honda changed design. This one will be compliant to 2030 standards. Time will tell if there are any teething issues. On paper it looks great.

      Really depends on whether or not you need maximum cargo space and a bigger third row. As a two row vehicle a lower end MDX is a compelling alternative with better styling and a nicer interior. If you plan to use it as a three row often the Pilot probably pulls ahead.

    Hey George. I own a 2017 Pilot and like it. Something I've noticed about Honda is that they don't upgrade unless they have to. I think, in my opinion, is that they lack in the nice options because they stopped being innovated. Just do whatever everyone else does, and that's good enough. Cut out some nice options to increase the profit margin. It's a shame because the build quality is pretty darn nice. I will be in the market for new suv, so I'll be doing some comparing with other companies. Thx for review George.

      @GBraidi78 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couple of vehicles copied from Honda innovation, like the vaccum in a minivan, cabin talk, cabin watch and second row seat feature with push of a button. Toyota, Kia/Hyundai and Chrysler copied some of these features!

    • @paulm6481
      @paulm6481 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other side of coin, they keep prices reasonable. Don’t complain about high prices if you want features. You should shop BMWs for many features at high unreliable levels, that more your thing. Get lost.

      actually I wanted to agree with you because I agree that in some ways Honda became complacent but I really think thats a North America phenomenon. Any management and engineers based in North America think money before innovative design. Where I think Honda has done well is self-driving (safety) innovation. Style overall has been bland and trail-blazing new vehicles are no more. Of course some of Honda's strange vehicles did not sell so well.

    I love the new Pilot's look and the new power train with DOHC and the much better 10 speed transmission. The roomy interior is going to be a big hit as well. The only problem with 'bigger' size Pilot SUV is the pain at the pump. I have a 2013 RDX (which has a Honda V6 SOHC engine) and it currently gets no more than 18 MPG in city mixed with little highway driving. The way that is the same MPG as my 2007 Sienna mini van with V6 FE-GR2 engine. So, Honda is not known for fuel sipping for SUVs so I hope Honda has made a huge improvement to the fuel consumption portion of it as I really want to get a Pilot in a year to two :).
