    In Japan drugs are bad but drinking an entire bottle of sake with 8 beers every night.. that's normal.

      Those guys were right when they said cocaine can cause harm and ruin your life, however they just had to include marijuana in the sentence. Cocaine and marijuana don’t belong in the same discussion as far as danger goes.

    Japanese people are often stereotyped as being close-minded, but everyone here seems to be treating the issue really fairly. They don't mind hearing the other side of the story and recognize that there's a diversity of opinions. Respect.

    • @ChristopherGray00
      @ChristopherGray00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      it's really the fact that they don't think about it much, eastern asian culture is not in line with substance use like the more southern asian countries such as thailand using kratom and whatnot.
      americans on the otherhand, have no real specific "culture", it is a mixture of practically everyone, so they are much more open to the idea of consuming substances, thus i'd argue that is mostly the reason behind a lot of the state legislature making it legal.

    • @JR-zi9vj

    I live in Japan, and have seen a documentary about the historical significance of cannabis here. Hemp was the primary fiber used for clothing before the introduction of cotton. It’s fibers were the main ones used for shimenawa, or the special ropes used at Shinto shrines. There are tons of traditional uses of the stalks or fibers locally around Japan, from torches as festivals to tying off a baby’s umbilical cord.
    It’s sad that the stigma around weed has effaced the place of honor that hemp had. Now it’s only grown with a permit and heavily policed.
    You’d think with all of the health problems faced by alcohol users that a more gentle euphoric could become popular. Here’s hoping that weed’s legalization in some many countries around the world sways Japan in the same direction.

    Smoking pot almost never leads to addiction unless you become a Chronic Chronic user (see what I did there), as someone who has smoke pot on and off for about 12 years now I can say I never really get a craving for pot, but rather if my RLS or back issues act up, I smoke a bowl. Then a few days, weeks, or even months later I repeat the process as needed. I am however addicted to nicotine, but that's another story.

Weed is not a strong drug and should be legal because wasting time and money for something like that is more harmfull. Espacially for someone who has a strong addiction to pot, We could help them better if the usage is not illegal, there will no shame of the usage if it's become more accepted. Also Legalize weed can protect users from bad influence from dealer and give them a product with some reglementation

      Cannabis is only addictive in the same way as gambling, gaming, and jogging. It's a psychological addiction. Meaning, it's all in the mind of a person with an addictive personality. That doesn't mean there's anything addictive about weed, the plant in and of itself is no more addictive than jogging. And an addictive personality who doesn't have access to weed will just find something exponentially more harmful to be addicted to instead. Like cigarettes or beer.

    Japanese people are so circumspect and subtle. I understand the subtext of everything they're saying, but they dance around their real meaning so much, someone not familiar with the culture might mistake them as naive or slow of thought. Then again, Americans have a reputation for being brash and outspoken, so I suppose it's just a matter of perspective.

    • @sirshinra
      @sirshinra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a true point, but in our lives, we have a certain amount of time and recreational drugs may be behind some of many things we consume today, regardless of food or education or media. People know things are bad for them, and I'm not just talking about drugs and alcohol, but anything else from negative attitudes, to over drinking, to over eating, to eating most things that have preservatives and other chemicals in them and more. People still consume them. You could live the healthiest life in the world down to the anatomical level and walk out the house and get hit by a car, whilst someone smoking and drinking everyday could live to an age older than the average person. It's in this where people decided to live their life how they want. Ideally you'd think not in taking anything 'bad' will be the 'right' way of life, but life is so much more dynamic I guess and people do whatever they want. It's up to us to know the dangers of what's involved and to take things into moderation and control. I know most people around me that smoke cannabis and do it in moderation (still a few joints a week or a joint/vape a day) and they are all fine. I think if we got rid of everything that is bad for us, we'd end up with barely any choice and in this day and age, we are well beyond life with small choice.

      N. E It is also ingrained in the language! There is always a clear distinction between things concerning yourself or things concerning someone else. In Japanese you would for example never say: "He is sad" but rather "He looks sad" or "I think he is sad", because you can't say for sure how someone else is feeling so rather than stating it as a fact you make clear that it's your own assessment. Even if the person told you he is sad you would still not state it as "factual".

    If you're anything like I was, you'd smoke it daily if you could. The high fades, but it's okay. Just light another bowl and the magic will come back, even if short lived, even if just to sleep. Until the next day when the pain of reality hit hard.
    I wish someone told me sooner, but there's a balance and it's worth achieving. You're probably not balanced if you're smoking weed every day. I mean, no one should feel bad for doing this, but I think you should be aware that you're not living to your fullest potential. Get your shit together in sobriety. Go get therapy if you must. We all have mental scars, we're all in pain in one way or another. Don't kid yourself. If you're relying on the drug to silence these thoughts/voices, it's holding you back. If you work your way to finding peace in the absence of marijuana, it will not only get it's magic back, you will find you don't "need" it anymore. You will have a choice. You'll be a much more fun person to be high around, and you'll enjoy the highs more.
    Japan seems to understand peace in sobriety (at least better than America). But they shouldn't scold people from using it. I don't think they'd get as addicted as us. We could learn from each other.

      In my opinion, (after smoking every day for a few years) the absence of weed is a part of this balance. Who knows, maybe your balance is smoking every day. Not my place to judge or make assumptions. Weed can open your mind to other paths in the mind you hadn't thought of before, but your mind is actually sharper when you're not stoned. Why are you worried about your image collectively? I'm an ex-toker, I don't represent anymore but I certainly will partake once every few months. Been watching Asian Boss since it started and I can tell you that Japanese people and other Asian countries talk really smart, without any tone of boasting or talking like they were '' Woke People'' in the society. They are humble and cute and the way they talk always has a sense of calculation. This was a really nice video. Keep up the good work guys!!!

    • @qoenntrell

      Dean Welch What do you mean?
      - A Chinese

    • @tamhtiwowtseet
      @tamhtiwowtseet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @Koen Foo He's talking about an effect that happens when some people smoke weed. It just means a person would squint more after smoking, almost like they are reading something small, or trying to look closely at a picture. However, getting 'Chinese eyed' does not happen to all people. When I have smoked weed, it made my eyes red and glossy, and my pupils were dilated.
      I assume you know of the stereotype that Asians have eyes that squint all of the time? (We call it 'Chinese eyes' simply because it sounds better than saying something like Japanese or Korean eyes.) Anyway, Dean is making a joke that since Japanese people already have Chinese eyes, would they get Chinese eyed if they smoked weed? It is a joke about redundancy, and is pretty clever, in my opinion, if you do not take offence to the stereotype that all Asians have Chinese eyes.
      I love all people who are moral and who hold good feelings for others, despite how they look or act. However, I think jokes about a certain race or gender's appearance, if the intent is not malicious (Which I do not think it is in Dean's case,) will allow people to laugh about something that could have been used in an offensive way, thus making it less powerful, and making people who say things like that, with malicious intent, into a joke.

    It's worth noting that the answer to "If you smoke weed, what do you think will happen" can change drastically depending on the strain of weed. Indica, or Kush, will have a much heavier sedative effect. This is the weed that people get "couch-locked" and "body-stoned" from, and is often used to treat insomnia and chronic pain. But a Sativa strain has a lighter, more cerebral, less sedative effect. Its influence "lives in the head" rather than spreading through the whole body. It's often used to treat conditions such as PTSD, general anxiety, even Parkinson's and Epilepsy.

  • @KeebaAfrica
    @KeebaAfrica 6 ปีที่แล้ว +164

    The effects of smoking weed differs from person to person, in my country where people use it for recreational usage due to depression and anxiety are more likely to overcome depression and anxiety. Never in my entire life have i ever heard of someone wanting to commit suicide due to smoking weed. There are negative aspects though. Some peoples depression can get worse from smoking weed. This is due to the person in my opinion. then again if you think weed is a dangerous substance and have no issues with alcohol, then you are probably an idiot.

      Not necessarily. Weed made me LESS lazy! I love trying new things when high. My hyper-sensitivity to certain lights and sounds lessens when high, so I go out more. I'm miles more creative when I'm high. I love taking hikes and exercising when I'm high. I'm miles more sociable too. I avoid driving while high, so I end up walking if I want to get somewhere often.

    • @typhoonic
      @typhoonic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My only negatives to weed? Harder to take serious things seriously as in I laugh at random things -- which is really only bad because I gotta deal with someone else getting offended. There is some slight paranoia like hearing people talk around me when no one said anything, but that's pretty rare and I can always recognize it about a second later that is just because I'm high. The worst things are the occasional coughing and some short term memory loss, but those two things only happens when I'm REALLY fucking high. I rarely do that though. I just take about 1 hit about every other day, and that's plenty for me. I only take more than that if it's a very special occasion -- kinda like how some people get really drunk on New Year's Eve.
