    This video is Part 1 of "What Asians think of America" series. We appreciate that a lot of you are wondering about perspectives from other Asian countries and we are in the process of expanding our coverage as fast as we can. The fact is that we are a small team based in South Korea and Japan and it will take time for us to expand to other Asian countries. So if you are interested in volunteering as our reporter from other Asian countries in the meantime, get in touch with us at askasianboss@gmail.com and we can work something out. Thanks for watching, everybody!

      What kinda saddens me is that even channels like this - where social understanding is the core feature - people still use America to designate USA. America is a continent and its name should stand for all the 35 countries that are part of it. The word 'America' should be designated just as 'Europe' is.
      I guess using America that way socially is ok, but when you want to have a conversation about social understanding, changing this habit seems to be a nice first step.

But yeah America can look up to/celebrate a bad guy from history but another country can't? Sounds like you should actually VISIT Japan instead of just reading about their history/culture and deciding that the people in general are still like they were before. To just assume that every single person in Japan is racist is what's actually unthinkable. If they do deny parts of their history, thats on them. America denies parts of its history too. So do other countries. It sounds like you like dwelling in the past. Its the 21st century and guess what my friend, the world is moving on. Maybe a lot of the world's population does still dwell in the past. Good for them.

      I hate America I will never forget the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. We will not forgive the United States for stealing Japanese assets and forcing Japan to go to war. In addition, Japan stole all Japanese technology and companies, and after losing the war, Japan could not build a large aircraft due to the pressure of the United States. In addition, the os software tron, which was superior to windows, was also crushed by the pressure of the United States. Japan's gdp was also improving, but the Japanese post office, which had the largest amount of money in the world, had more money than the American city bank. I stole more money. Japan's gdp was held by Japanese as much as 18% of the world. It was all ruined by America. In addition, the High Frequency Active Aurora Research Program (HAARP) has so far been considered a system intended for peaceful use. However, HAARP was an earthquake weapon intended for "military use"! Furthermore, the unprecedented earthquake that struck eastern Japan on 3/11 was caused by HAARP. don't let America. nickkuroshi0 Of course. Japan has its own issues to deal with. My point is that the US gives too much to other countries who don’t care about us and yet we are judged. We also are too easy with people coming here illegally. Most of the world doesn’t understand that. This is why Trump isn’t an issue; he understands that we can’t just let everyone in willy nilly which is exactly how Japan is.

    • @nickkuroshi0
      @nickkuroshi0 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      US immigration is also pretty broken and needs reform, which is the main reason our immigration problems are exacerbated. It's not that we are too easy on immigrants, we treat them inconsistently, a big factor being immigration wait times.

    I visited Japan right after Hong Kong and quickly realized. The Chinese are completely different than the Japanese despite both being asian. In my opinion Japanese people are tied with only Filipinos on friendliness. It’s strange at first as an American cause when someone is being overly nice in America, it’s because they want something out of you. Japanese and Filipinos are genuinely wanting to be your friend, even if you are a stranger!

      There's a huge difference between Japan and China. I think because China's population is so crowded that there's a "everyone for themselves" type of mentality. Japan is also extremely innovative while China "borrows" a lot of intellectual properties. Because it's China, there's pretty much nothing that can be done about it either.
      The Chinese people are great, but the CCP is a problem. You never hear about Japanese spies or extreme censorship.

Their late hours at work and exhaustion comes from their self belief of "honor", where they feel they have to impress and give the image of hard workers. Because of this self imposed culture, morale completely stinks, the suicide rates among working Japanese is the highest in the world.

      Andreas Løtveit Andreas Løtveit no hate but...
      1. I believe the man meant present time not historical wise. At this moment, America’s culture is a global powerhouse that has major influence! For example Hollywood, The Music Industry, and basically everything entertainment wise uses the US as it’s hub. Usually this is why you see talented European talents moving to the US when they blow up and become stars. (A simple classic example would be The Beatles).
      2. America believes they are a great country because over here we have a lot of national pride (and when you’re the most powerful country on the planet, it only boosts national pride) as for starting things, America is a melting pot, we take things from every culture and convert it into our own diverse culture. As for creating stuff, America has pretty much lead the world in Internet age, (we got Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Google, TH-cam, etc...) All centered in America. As for disappointing the EU I’m curious what events you’re describing, but also America doesn’t need to do things in order to please the EU...
      3. I’m not sure you fully understand how the elections work, there are not just two candidates for presidency, but Two Major parties (Democratic, Republican) that nominate their best candidates out of tons of candidates in their party, also other parties are involved other than Republican and Democratic, but do not receive enough votes in order to get massive campaigns needed to promote their candidacy. As for voting 1/100 thats not possible with the electoral system in place, as popular vote doesn’t decide the winner. (Most Americans hate the electoral system btw) if you’re interested just look up a simple vid on it
      4. To sum it up, despite so much shade always thrown at America, we have overcome some of the most hostile environments in the world, we are the biggest example of a melting pot. Basically all of America is made up immigrants and differing cultures, and yet we have overcome so many obstacles in order to live together (despite what media may say, it’s really peaceful over here, as long as you have a good head and got common sense you shouldn’t face any trouble with the so-called “race wars” that the media is tryin to start over here. Hell most people are mixed these days!)
      Hope you read this all, sorry for the long post but I feel like there are many misconceptions about America and as someone who is an avid History guy, and in love with other countries I felt like I should clear these up for foreigners wondering what’s going on

    • @zerosolis6664
      @zerosolis6664 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @Dan Man You have a ton of misconceptions here, my friend. Imperial Japan no longer exists. Its a much much much different country now, its the 21st century and Japan is pretty close to China in terms of being the most advanced country in the world, as far as I remember. I'm pretty sure you're also trying to refer to the hentai industry or something in your last sentence. You have to understand that not nearly as many people in Japan are actually contributing to that, nor partake in it as you might think. Sure its really strange and kind of disturbing, but its a very deep part of the culture that isn't exactly out in the open really, and that you'd have to want to look for it. Sure, Akihabara in Tokyo is considered "Anime City", but its not like the entirety of Japan is Otaku culture, nor do they all like it. Please do some research or learn a lot more about the country as it is now or just don't say anything.

    As an American, I think these perspectives are relatively accurate. I was happy that people perceived Americans as friendly, when the US government isn't. It's relieving to know that some people outside the US can recognize that our people are different than our government. I think the biggest thing missing is how different Americans are depending on which state they are from. The US is extremely large and many of our state are bigger than a lot of countries. Since the majority of Americans are descended from immigrants (or immigrants themselves), there can be huge cultural (and food) differences between states, depending on who immigrated there, and when.

It seems that non-native English speakers get really upset over our use of "America" to refer to USA instead of the continent(s). First of all, in the English language "America" is colloquially understood to mean USA, whereas "The Americas" is understood to be the continent(s). That is the beauty of language. There is absolutely no misunderstanding in the English language that America is synonymous with USA.
    Also, people should also realize that different countries treat the amount of continents as different. In almost all English-speaking countries we use the 7 continent model where we separate "The Americas" into North- and South America and view them as two separate continents. Therefore we rarely even use the term "The Americas" and thus there is even less ambiguity when using "America" for USA. That is why other non-English speaking countries get confused as they probably use the 6 continent model where a single continent "America" is used to describe the combination of North- and South America.

    • @alexdhamp
      @alexdhamp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Not to mention, when referring to nations/countries...it's obvious one means the US when mentioning "America". None of the other nations in South or North America actually have America in their title.

      @Bill Bo Haggins also a typical far right white supremacist tactic, or an imperialist tactic that England has used more then once in the good ol' days, or a tactic used by nazis or Russians or Syrians or Muslims in Pakistan or Hindus in India, or like you are using right now to belittle all non white people in the world. Divisive tactics have been used, seemed to work then ended in the most epic fails in all of human history sooo many times by so many different people all over the planet, and it looks like they will continue to be used and lead to more epic failures as long as people like you exist. So congratulations for having the exact same bad idea as the people you don't like /and/ pointing it out! That has to be a whole new level of stupid! There were a couple of places that were Japanese-only, but for the most part the people were gracious and polite hosts and very forgiving of my drunk friends. I drank with Japanese Marines and sang Karaoke regularly with the bar hostesses there and had the most amazingly fresh food on a regular basis. Ask Japanese people what they think of America and they reply "Trump, Hamburgers, Movies, Fat people, Porn, Hip Hop, Food, Racism" etc.
    Ask Americans what they think of Japan and they reply "Nintendo, Play Station, WW2, Anime, Family Honor, Hentai, Plastic Surgery, Martial Arts ".
    There's nothing but generalizing over here and *ALOT* of it has to do with the modern media.
