    Great video of sailing!
    Only ever sailed once - on the Merlin of Clyde yacht.
    Would love to do it all again! 😀

      Thanks for the feedback - I haven't seen Merlin of Clyde for a while. Did you work for Rolls Royce by chance?

      @@tarbertsailing No. 😀 Many years ago, my best friend's wife won a free raffle draw which gave about 6 couples (I think) a day's sailing up the Kyles of Bute. She couldn't go, so my friend took me. Still got the nice R.R. photo sheet from the day.

      Thank you. It's a lovely place - very peaceful, but such an exposed location. $3m and it's yours apparently!

      Yeah its definitely worth more than $3 million, I've been to Arran, Skye, Rothesay and Millport this year and gonna do Isle of Mull next but maybe sometime soon would like to try visit the Isle of Sanda, looks so peaceful there👍

    Looks like you had a great trip. We hope to visit Sanda next season on our way round the Mull.

      Yes, very settled for us, and great to enjoy the surroundings. Well worth a visit. Its a good stop over for rounding the Mull, but I always treat Mull roundings as a bit of a delivery, so we had to make a special trip to go there and stop :)

    The last time I visited Sanda it was still manned. We took the guys a handful of daily papers and some fresh milk which they appreciated.

      Great memories. It's a pretty remote spot, so I have no doubt your contribution was appreciated! Such a shame it's no longer open.

    This might be a dumb question but are you allowed to go onto private property like that? In the US it’s trespassing unless there is an easement just curious how it works in Europe.

    • @tarbertsailing
      @tarbertsailing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not a dumb question at all - in Scotland there exists a right to roam. You cannot start wandering through private gardens, but open land is just that - open. You do have to adhere to the outdoor access code, which means dogs under control, close gates and so on - in other words responsible access and not total freedom to do as you like.

      ***Private Land: The right to roam does not imply a right to enter private land without permission, and landowners may restrict access if they wish.***
      Scotland’s right to roam law, enshrined in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, grants everyone in Scotland the right to access ""most"" land (not all) and inland water for recreational purposes, ***subject to certain limitations and responsibilities.***
      Key Provisions:
      Right of Responsible Access: Everyone has the right to be on land for recreational purposes and to cross land for those purposes, as long ***as they exercise this right responsibly.***
      Limitations: ***The right to roam does not extend to land adjacent to dwelling houses, farm buildings, compounds, schools, and other similar features.***
      Responsibilities: Access must be exercised ***responsibly***, in accordance with the Scottish Outdoors Access Code, which provides "guidance" ( not law) on responsible behavior, including respecting private property, wildlife, and the environment.

      Thanks for the details. As I said, responsible access to open land, which describes the majority of Sanda except directly around the buildings and the jetty. So landing on the beach is fine, as is walking over the island to the lighthouse.

    Sailed to Sanda often. The pilot guide was grossly pessimistic. It is very sheltered from the tide and weather, except from the North. It is easy to cross the tidal current even if the tide is strong, and once in the anchorage you can relax and enjoy its security.
    The pub had so few customers the beer was often ‘off’!

    • @tarbertsailing
      @tarbertsailing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a very sheltered anchorage - and now that the moorings have gone, easy anchoring. Looks like the buildings have been done up recently, and now B&B type accommodation, but I guess that the water supply is the biggest issue. Anyway, back on the market again for £2.5m. I struggle to understand how it could ever be a viable business for anyone given its remoteness, but good on those who wish to give it a try.

    • @tarbertsailing
      @tarbertsailing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, and glad you enjoyed the video. Yes it is a lovely place on a nice day. Water is the problem on the island - no fresh supply and no lochs that I am aware of. The cottages are nice though, but awful bleak on a wet and windy day. Are you in the market for an island then?

      @@tarbertsailing I'm afraid Island-buying is not a financial possibility in the near future. But I'm a Scot by blood and would love to travel back one day. I feel the homeland pull.

      When Inchmarnock was up for sale, we said that (subject to a lottery win) we would buy it and turn it into a wildlife sanctuary! Anyway, we are still waiting for the lottery win :)
