    Hello. Great to bump into you in Plockton a few weeks ago. Keep the videos coming really enjoy them. I moved Minke from Portavadie to Ardfern this year so we could be further west. So far we have been the furthest west on Minke (Canna) and furthest north (Rona) this year. The weather has made us give up for now and we are back home in N wakes. Hope to be back up soon when and if the weather turns. How as your trip north and did you have the same issue e had ITN beating into al the southerly winds to get south? Take care. Fair winds. Great to meet you too! Thanks for the feedback on the videos. We are playing catchup with them after our sailing so far this season. The weather has been quite poor, but we are hoping to get away again soon. And yes, we were beating across to the Uists in northerly winds and then back again when they switched south. Ardfern is a great base for west coast sailing. Will you over-winter there?

    Sailed to Sanda often. The pilot guide was grossly pessimistic. It is very sheltered from the tide and weather, except from the North. It is easy to cross the tidal current even if the tide is strong, and once in the anchorage you can relax and enjoy its security. The pub had so few customers the beer was often ‘off’!

    • @tarbertsailing
      @tarbertsailing หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a very sheltered anchorage - and now that the moorings have gone, easy anchoring. Looks like the buildings have been done up recently, and now B&B type accommodation, but I guess that the water supply is the biggest issue. Anyway, back on the market again for £2.5m. I struggle to understand how it could ever be a viable business for anyone given its remoteness, but good on those who wish to give it a try.

    Great video thanks! My dad’s family own a house in torinturk, used to go for walks in the forest as a kid. A few years ago my brother and I went back and had a walk in the forest, surprised to see it had been opened up and found the giants grave. Would love to go back and visit the dun. After reading into this and hearing of the clan leaders wolf dog it sparked a memory. The old lady next door to us used to mention having seen a large black “cat” like animal similar to a panther in the forest 🤷🏻‍♂️ this was back in 80’s or something

    • @tarbertsailing
      @tarbertsailing 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not a dumb question at all - in Scotland there exists a right to roam. You cannot start wandering through private gardens, but open land is just that - open. You do have to adhere to the outdoor access code, which means dogs under control, close gates and so on - in other words responsible access and not total freedom to do as you like.

    Such a beautiful boat - they just don’t make them with such stunning lines anymore. Fair winds those season☺️

      Camper & Nicholson certainly designed some lovely boats, but every boat is a compromise - and to gain comfortable sailing we lose accommodation. Its really amazes us when we go inside a modern 35 footer and see just how much space they have.

      @@tarbertsailing tell me about it! Chartered a 35 foot boat in Croatia last summer and really didn’t feel cramped with us and our three teenage daughters. Wouldn’t have the same feeling in my 1980’s 36 footer that I have here in Norway🙈

    Hi there! Realy enjoy your videos and love your home port of Tarbert. We live in North Wales but spent 9 weeks as liveaboards in July and August 2022 sailing to the Clyde via the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. We spent over a month in Scotland visiting many locations and managed to take in the Sea Food Festival while in Tarbert over a very wet weekend! We returned home to N.Wales but last year headed north again to the Clyde and relocated Magic Hawk at Holy Loch where she is currently hard standing. We have only scratched the surface of this spectacular cruising ground and plan to take in much more this season. The Kyles of Bute were very memorable for us in 2022 as the weather was shocking with torrential rain and visibility of only 50m so we didn't really see very much! Better luck this year. Keep the videos coming! Best wishes. Mark

      Thanks for the kind comments about our videos Mark! When is Magic Hawk back in the water? There is a lifetime of sailing up here, and several attempts may be needed to experience the true beauty of a place - as you have discovered with the Kyles - and for some reason, in recent years at least, it always rains on the seafood festival weekend!

      I think realistically, we won’t be able to launch Magic Hawk until the end of April or early May this year. Now our round trip to the boat is 602 miles, we have to plan our maintenance work carefully and hope for good weather too. We were due to travel up on Sunday but with another spell of cold, wet and windy weather blowing in, we’ve decided to postpone for a while. We’ll get there in the end I’m sure. One thing we have already learned about Scotland is that when it rains, it’s at a level above what we are used to in North Wales! But when the sun shines, it takes some beating! Have a great season ahead!

    Safe and sound again! I quite understand your concern when she is being lifted....I used to insist on standing under mine when she was lifted. The crane op would say you can't stand there but I would reply yes, I must! Made me feel better, and for sure made him a bit more careful!! Wishing you fair winds, smooth seas, and lots more U Tube episodes. Jon

      Always a bit tentative doing the antifouling under the boat when she is in the slings, but know what you mean about wanting the crane driver to take care. We are lucky with Sandy, and he does a great job. Thanks for the good wishes - here's hoping for this season, although we'll get what we get and make the most of it!

      It's fine to trust the lift operator. Good to know you absolutely trusted the sling conditions and positions. Astonished the driver or bank didn't give you a well-deserved clip or walk off, which they should have.

      @tarbertsailing 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@smokingkippers1173 if the driver felt that a clip was well deserved, I'm sure he would have given one. Having kept the boat in a number of yards, I have never come across anyone who is unhappy with the risk associated with antifouling the underside of a keel. After all, how else are you supposed to do it? Each to their own I suppose.
