Different countries, different conditions, but it's wild to me that you need that much gap for ventilation. Here in Brazil, at least in the area close to the sea, those gaps would just make the storage area extra dusty and an allergy paradise. My bed is my parents old bed and it's about 30 years old, all made in wood. The only "ventilation gaps" are the gaps needed for the drawers to open and close properly without getting stuck. It never had any mold sign anywhere. But I do recommend rotating the mattress every 3 months.
I love this. I made a bed with book shelves. Didn’t think of the cabinets. So I just have decorated storage bins in the spaces. Now I’m going to look into creating shelves and doors. I’m also going to make an entrance for my cats. 😂😂 Thanks for the idea 😊
@Ergo Builds, the 'ventilation' part should be filled with Aquarium Cotton. A, because it isn't toxic. B, to prevent dust from getting into the space but yet still allow air to travel, to a degree. It will not be perfect, but it will be better than having all your cat's hair, toys and sut getting in. Plus the Cotton tends to stay white for long time and easy to wash when needed. If you are worried about stagnant air, you can always just buy a USB charger plus a USB connected computer fan on low RPM to move the air at certain hours of the day.
I love this. I live in a small place (UK) and have what we call a small double bed 120x190cm or 4ft x 6ft 3inches. I have a couple of questions, how much roughly do you think it cost to make your bed set up with the Ikea cabinets? And in regards ventilation, which is definitely needed for the mattress, do you think it would be advisable to drill some holes in the back of the cabinets so air can flow through them too? I wonder if the cabinet sizes in UK Ikea are the same, the names aren't.
You can use my Twin Bed setup (see 01:28) for your room. The total cost for the IKEA SEKTION setup in the U.S. comes to $359 (56+104+56+56+87), plus tax and the added cost of wood, bringing the total to roughly £310. As for the holes in the back of the cabinets, I think that’s fine-they’re just cardboard and don’t really contribute much to weight support. As long as the holes aren’t too large (so items won’t fall through), it should work perfectly.
There's a single thing I'd personally improve: give the box bed access from both sides. That way, if a couple should use it, both can access their own side of drawers/shelves. But what an amazing job, man. Hope you're doing great! EDIT: btw, that space below it works wonders when temperatures rise and you need somewhere to store your blankets. When climate gets colder, well, you already have the mattress to isolate your body from the air filling that space
Good point, the main reason I put it as corner bed is this is for the guest, which normally not in used. And I do have a version which have cabinets on both side: th-cam.com/video/uL7wdsPupGc/w-d-xo.html

Sounds great!
Very nice, the ventilation section is a good looking and practical way to fill that gap.
Another well done job! ❤
Thank you!
