IT LOOKS AMAZING AND YOU DID A GREAT JOB I AM thinking about doing this for my husband's and I's bed with thicker plywood on top and some additional things but I absolutely love this and thank you for sharing.🥰
About the only thing to add is plastic grid flooring squares under mattress to aid in moisture circulation. That's something I've seen other platform bed people do. I've been shopping for futon bed and the comments say to get the grass reed mat to prevent mold starting. Maybe that layer is an option too in this case.
hmm...so far there's no moisture build up/mold under her mattress. probably because she is just one small girl sleeping on the bed. IDK but I check it once in a while to make sure. thank you for the great ideas! this is very good info for others who may need those options. thx!
People usually would saw many big holes into the plywood. Better not wait for the mould. A grown person loses about 1 ltr every night, partly goes into the clothes and duvet, partly into the mattress. It's a fact.
@@MimzyandCompanyI'd advise doing it before - prevention is better than cure, as they say, and if it gets to the point where you notice it you'd have to replace the whole mattress.
@loveourbulldogs6388 yes, but the lack of air circulation underneath a mattress on the floor means that inside the mattress remains damp, which makes it a perfect breeding ground for mould

A TRUE DIY! This came out amazing, I love getting real inspiration. Using what you have, using high quality materials, using creativity. I love it! Great job!
@finally97. * I saw your comment is recent so this might be worth considering. The frames sold with 4, 6 or 8 'cubbies' might be an affordable option. I have seen them at Wal-Mart, Target, Ikea, etc. I often see them on the OfferUp app. At my age getting on the floor isn't wise so drawers would be risky. Inexpensive bins for the cubbies are available at the same stores plus Dollar Tree and others. For me moving a bin to my bed to put away clothes would be easy. (I fondly remember being young and agile. I recently broke my predominant shoulder. At 74 I must consider my age and old bones. It's difficult for me to 'act my age' - I have never been this old before now.)
Brilliant & Perfect! Great re-use of something that would have ended up in a landfill. I would respectfully add one more detail....if the mattress is one of those foam type mattresses, some holes drilled down the center that is empty underneath would help with air circulation. I’ve seen what happens under those mattresses when there is no air circulation, don’t ask me how I know that! If it’s a regular mattress it wouldn’t need it. Love it, turned out fabulous!!!
I don’t think it’s a jankedy idea at all, I absolutely love the idea, I have a dresser that I got from Habitat for Humanity Restore for $25 and when we moved one drawer broke and I haven’t been able to figure out what I want to do with it because I haven’t been able to find a replacement drawer for it yet and I’ve been looking off and on for months now. If I was your kid I would be so happy to have such a cool looking bed. As a grown child the center part with barn door would be the coolest fort hide out kind of place. Great job mom. You made the kids bedroom great again.
Back in the 70s my mom did that with some old bookshelves she got. We pushed them together and put a board on top and my mattress. It was tall but I had a step. We used old laundry baskets and that was my twin bed for years.
Absolutely stellar project - love your re-use of the campaign chests…I had forgotten about that style of furniture! Isn’t it grand when an endeavor like this works out pumpkin pie perfect?? You are a resourceful person and a champion Mom!!💕
I did something similar to this with the waist height dresser without cutting them down. It ended up being really tall with the rather thick mattress we put on top. It's really nice having all that extra storage.
You can often find furniture online secondhand. I've found a solid wood table I love online and they don't make it anymore. Loads of local sites resell furniture.
We think alike! I was planning a new bed project very similar to yours, only a bit taller with small stairs. Since many apts now are small and closets are limited, I planned for practicality. Dresser/Mini wardrobe-like function. It’s why I buy furniture with multiple uses. I reconfigure according to apt Bedroom setting. Love your ideas! Thanks for sharing! 👏👏👏💐🏆. 🫶😇
As a builder/DIYer This is one of the best diy storage beds I've seen! And yeah I'm All about saving that money!! keep up the good Work and it doesn't matter what other people think, so long as your Daughter loves it!!!
Oh my goodness, you should line up about 1000 people and walking down the line and have them all pack you on the back girl that is amazing! I thought I was creative, but I don't think I could hold a candle to you. Not only is it in genius it is pretty, and the coolest is hardly cost you anything. All of these smart, wise people out there that have something smart to say? They have something to say because they wouldn't be able to do it. They have to pay somebody to do it for them or they would have to pay the high cost of having somebody do it, you are simply brilliant. I took two waterbed pedestals like a waterbed one time and I needed a seat in my family room and stacked them on top of each other and took a piece of plywood and cut it down for the top with the hinge on it, and of course it had drawers too, and took a piece of foam and my handy stapler, Stanley, stapler, ha ha, and covered it with a really pretty piece of material and everybody walked in my house, wanted that seat, and I found the pedestals out in the back alley that somebody had parted out at waterbed and decided to toss that and that was 20 years ago so you go girl! You have a lot to be proud of. Anybody that would have anything crappy to say is just jealous and I love the little door that you put on there that is so stinking cute and I thought I was smart. I never thought about cutting that darn tall boy in half, I do though ha ha I would love to see more of your stuff. I subscribed because I think you've got a lot going on. You should open your own little furniture place. Don't be afraid to step out on the legend and go for it like you did so darn cute and useful on top of all of that other words I want one.🙏🏻 Just amazing‼️‼️‼️❤️❤️❤️ I just can't get over how I keep re-watching it because it's so cool wow some people have it and some people don't! You've got it girl you are one smart young lady❗️ God bless you and can't wait to see what else you got‼️

Nice! You could also just put a big basket or roller box of some kind in the end storage space. Super cute. Probably much more solid than most storage beds too!
Yes. For sure, baskets would be great. But my daughter is adamant about keeping it open. She’s 17 now and still sometimes I find her napping under her bed….usually when she’s supposed be doing homework. 😛
My first husband did this in the 90s with ikea dressers, cupboards and shelves. It fit 2 twin mattresses and effectively made a disturbance-free king size bed.
Jinky? No way Jose. You did an awesome job. My kids would be thrilled with that bed. We have itty bitty bedrooms for our kids. Aside from building a loft bed for my oldest, I needed a safer option for my little guy. This may be just the ticket.

Thank you Amanda! So do I! Thanks for commenting...it confirms I'm not crazy for doing projects like this.
@@MimzyandCompany definitely not crazy! This is so inspiring, can't wait to try my own version
I love it! Can't wait to show my daughter because she's wanted one like you described forever. It's awesome!!!
@@bcwbarb thank you! She will love it! It’s been so great at keeping my daughter nest and organized.
Not silly! Beautiful and creative.
Fantastic! No one can see both sides at the same time!
So true!
I think it was amazing and hurray for you, wish I had some old furniture. Your girls are so lucky.
Thank you Betty!
You can often find furniture online secondhand.
I've found a solid wood table I love online and they don't make it anymore.
Loads of local sites resell furniture.
I love love love the little sliding barn door for extra storage! This is so excellent.
Thank you!
This is wonderful! What a creative genius you are!! FABULOUS!!
Thank you so much!
Awesome! The two girls are very cute ☺️ I hope they still love this amazing bed.
@@benheckendorn2696 they love it.
Speaking of drawers under the bed....🤔 that gave me an idea! Thanks, and well done. The bed looks amazing, something my daughter would have loved too!
This is great. Your daughter is happy. You recycled. It made sense.
Yes! Win win!
That's very smart of you! Thank you!
As a builder/DIYer This is one of the best diy storage beds I've seen! And yeah I'm All about saving that money!! keep up the good Work and it doesn't matter what other people think, so long as your Daughter loves it!!!
Thank you!!!
@@MimzyandCompany Your welcome anytime, looking forward to more projects!
Wow Rhonda! You just made my day! Sounds like we’re two peas in a pod. Creative and making things happen with what you got. 😂 thank you for this sweet comment! I really appreciate it!
Did you ever show a video of how you made the roman shade for the window?❤
No, not that particular window. But i do have a couple roman shade videos...th-cam.com/video/9QrpygK1OLY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vxLKWDhDoXAf82HV
Lucky girl, you have yourself a great mum. To mum well done lady, you did a great job, I love it😊
Thank you so much Denise!🤗
Great project, well done.
Great job with upcycling this. I think it turned out great. I may be late watching this, but I'm glad I did. Great job, mom!
Thanks Jen!
SUPER CUTE 😍 ❤❤❤ I always opt to use the things I have before buying new, it's an amazing feeling to create something out of things you were going to get rid of !! Good for you, super cute bed !! I love it ❤❤❤
Thanks! and yes!!! I totally agree with you! I do love using what I have,
@MimzyandCompany 🥰 Your daughter seems so happy with it too, it has much more meaning to the kiddos when it's something Mom created just for them ☺️
Good for you! It looks wonderful and I am certain she will love it!
I think so too!
The mini barn door is so cute!
Thanks!
Fantastic, creative, and wonderful ! Thank you for sharing your creativity!
Thank you so much Rose!
Amazing!!! I love your thought processes.
Thank you Pam!
Wonderful project! Looks great!
For something put together out of old furniture, it's so aesthetic!
Thank you !
*Brilliant!* 😊
This is awesome! Love it!
Thanks so much!
That’s awesome. I love the under bed hidey hole. I hear you. I would have hung a curtain, only because I don’t have barn door hardware.
Awesome project, very inventive! Don't worry about what others say to you, keep your groove going, girl!
awe...thank you so much Janice! will do!
I LOVE IT ALL & MY WAS THE TINY BARN DOOR 🤣 I WOULD'VE DONE IT ALL THE SAME WAY, YOU'RE 👍
Thank you!!!🥰
Wow! You did an amazing job! Love this look. I'm totally stealing this idea for my daughters room! Great job!
yes! go for it!!!!
Bravo!
Great Mom!
