- Welp, it's that time. Time for the return of my awful hot takes. I'm actually not sure if I have stated some hot takes on this channel yet, but there are some spicy ones in this video. This video was such a bitch to make, so I hope you enjoy it or enjoy tearing me apart in the comments.

I really agree on Lawyer being a great decoder, his traits make him rlly good, imo I think the reason people don’t rlly play him is because he isn’t attractive LMFAO

I totally agree, I believe that the character's appearance influences a lot... I mean, people don't want to use a good character, they want to use a beautiful character. It works for hunters too. As the game has a horror "premise", I fully support characters that have a "non-standard" appearance (Clerk, Nightmare, Thief, Soul Weaver), do you see many people using them? of course not, they are not pretty. I think the game is no longer related to fun but only to winning and having beautiful skins. Maybe someone says that these hunters are not fun and that's ok, but people don't want to have fun, they just want to win.
Its not about his apperance, players prefer strong characters. Now the game is so dependent on the survs having good decoding skills and a stong power, its why lawyer isnt used because he only uses a map.
P.S i dont like him because he married Emma's mom behind Hell Ember's back.

Something that bugs me about Decoders is that Postman and Female Dancer exist, both of which provide a certain degree of decoding utility while having far superior supporting and kiting capabilities. The support part in particular is a major boon considering how much the meta has shifted towards supports and survivors that are able to help each other. I feel like this is especially damning for Composer who is an entirely selfish character.
I'll be honest, I was debating on whether to add technical decoders onto the list, such as Postman, Female Dancer, and Lucky Guy. However, I feel like it would've been better to make the video strictly on pure decoders, however. They would've been high up had I did add them, though. Well, maybe not Lucky Guy..

I have composer and honestly he’s cool if you ignore the fact you must do the rhythm things that takes most of your concentration (at least for me) once I played a match and because I was so concentrated on the rhythm thing he does I didn’t realize I was the last one to be alive, which is why I don’t use him often

Because 100% Little Girl decoding + 100% Teamate decoding is far greater than 100% Teammate decoding + the buff that doll gives
@@llyexelxia3997 i bet you watched the geishagaming tips for little girl, the OP admitted it was a misinformation, 2 survivours decode will only get a 140% overall if im not wrong, and 170% for 3. so basically her doll skill definitely makes your teammate decode faster. imagine how stupid it is just to has a skill that make both of you decode slower

correction as a lawyer main: even if you dont have a map, as long as you decode a full cipher you'll still get the 20% bonus. funny how idv forgor about that thing. this is why i switch out items early to act as the second rescuer (tide lawyer lol) unless its a joseph.
I figured that was a thing. I was double checking the wiki and just assumed it was fixed. Apparently not. NetEase seems to forget a lot of things. Thanks for the correction, though.
it used to be if you depleted the map/swapped for a diff item you couldnt get the 20% bonus, but idv removed that recently

As a B badge lawyer, I can confirm his map has saved me from being found first so many times, not only that but his decoding is so fast when accelerated decoding activates within half the match which makes cipher pops more manageable
Composer is the best decoder because he looks sad and uses a rhythm game

I know I forgot some stuff and I'm sorry I did, but there are so many mains in the comments who came together to help clarify and correct the info in the comments, so give them a read and check them out! So I realized I forgot to add Composer to the realist list. Just know that I see him as S - A.
explorer/lawyer main dropping by. I obviously like lawyer for the reasons you listed but explorer is good for hunters that like to patrol ciphers because YOU are progress so you are not limited to which cipher has progress or the cipher's distance from the hunter. The ciphers also don't wiggle when you dig up pages which saves my ass (I hate teleport LOL).
As a composer main with encountering the new hunter (Night Witch) i find him pretty useful! First of his tuning fork has helped me not get sucked close to the hunter but still be slow which is a disadvantage yeah but it has saved me lots with escaping since the hunter's skill is quick to end!
The sudden Bayonetta Fly Me to the Moon at 16:26 really caught me off guard haha but good video nonetheless.
Also I want to point out Mind’s Eye is significantly better when playing with friends since you don’t need her self revealing cane smack to get information and can save it for chase/support. Also, that 130% decoding speed really shines when you know your friends are safely containing the hunter and she can chew away at the ciphers in peace.
I agree with you on Mech and imo Mechanic's tier depends on the match
If you get found first Mechanic is B (just because you can use doll to be a scuffed Psychologist with bodyblock lol otherwise she'd be C like Explorer)
If you don't get found Mechanic is S
If your bot gets found and smacked in the face thus drastically losing durability Mechanic is A
I think it makes more sense that when Mechanic is found she is a S tier cuz even if she is not found and she decodes the entire match , her decoding debuff makes her take ages just to finish a single cipher , while in chair , she can retake her own cipher with the both , finish the cipher of the rescuer with the bot AND BASICALLY not losing any decoding that you would be losing with any other decoder if they get chaired , thats why she practically will never be a bad pick unless they nerf the doll drastically
And when her doll gets hit then she is even worse than Mind's Eye or Explorer , she now has a 30%~ bot which cannot even decode a full cipher and her decoding speed is the slowest in the game as the game progresses
Mech is found = S tier
Mech is not found = A tier
Mech's doll gets hit = F tier
As a Composer main the entire reason why I played him is because of the fact that he has ZERO kiting debuffs. It's exactly why I build his persona web as a kiter, just in case.
Tbh, I don't see why so many people think that decoders are bad now.. Especially when a lot of them do actually have kiting potential like prisoner and composer, hell even mind's eye has kiting potential.
In the actual game
Mech is S , until she doesnt have her robot, that will still be useful
Prisoner is A+, i dont need to say here
Explorer is B, he countered peeper and make hunter waste so much time to find him, same with Mech, he helped team decode even when chaired or eliminated
Federick and TME is B or B- and Lawyer is C+ (maybe B as well)

As a B badge lawyer I can confirm that he is an underrated decoder and honestly in my opinion he is strong decoding and kiting wise. It’s also really helpful that he doesn’t get banned in rank. His map has also helped me avoid the hunter or has helped me assist my friends when playing. 🤭
I think you play explorer wrong, he is not designed to outrun or restraint hunter, he is designed to run, hide trails, and shrink hide. Made him difficult to find, and consider top tier survivability depends on your hiding skill.
When you met some pro explorer, you might never seen them in game. Especially in area full of grass.
Tips: when playing explorer chooses the right costume for best hiding result
Yes, I know. What happens if the Hunter somehow gets lucky and finds you, though? That's the point I was making, not that you might not get found. It's what if you get found because it can happen. A Hunter with quenching effect or is just that Lucky can teleport onto you and you have nothing at that point. He can hide and he can be great at it, yes. But you are screwed if you are found
as a mech main, I actually agree on points but another thing is that if you time it right, when kiting and the hunter is close you can deploy a bot to block the hit and still have enough in your controller for another which I think when played right is very useful bc it blocks a hit obvi but also slows down the hunter and sometimes requires the hunter to destroy the bot first before being able to continue which gives a lot of space. this tip isn’t helpful for decoding but figure I should mention it
For explorer its kinda good if a person is in where the spot your digging pages since decoding take time. And you have to take a look for the pages. the person can transition to another cipher to not waste time.

Hunter main here, I play Composer to practice kiting, since Hunters tend to go for the decoder first
The Minds Eye is technically my main decoder as for myself I'm not good at kiting which is why I somehow getting hard time playing her but the thing is knowing where the hunter is and giving it a small debuff is kinda great for me. But the one that I am disappointed that the devs didn't implement the adjustment of minds eye where she can knock back a hunter if they were close while using her cane instead they gave to another survivor which was little girl. I guess if they gonna change something to her either reduce her sound cue when tapping her cane or make her have normal calibration chance. I get that Minds eye have the fastest decoding but not as efficient as others she's honestly a good combo with little girl. Like decoding buddies.
Despite the tierlist, I find Explorer to be difficult to play at a professional, or at least decent, level.
Heck, he's kinda bad at other parts of the game apart from decoding! But as an Explorer main, this totally entitles me to a sense of favoritism.
Explorer is very situational, but on maps with forests and mounds of grass, he's god tier at hiding from the hunter.
Slapping a few good kiting perks makes him like a jack of all trades, able to stay out of the killers sight, just as you said, but also able to decode insanely quickly and, to an extent, kite akin to that of a non-kite focused survivor.
minds eye would be more cooler if not 30% vauluting decreased (from b badge minds eye main)
The fact that they buffed Mechanic's vaulting speed but not Mind's Eye is a crime
Coming from former 1st composer, hello get you to peak tier but once you get there you’ll just lose since they play Good hunters and because of are select mode they’ll just single you out. Also prisoner is A tier idk how but he’s so op.

I like explorer but his a tier accessory the controller thingy makes it obvious when he shrinks down which i think sucks cuz it looks cool but it doesnt help with chase. And you can hear him transform sadly. I play him cuz of aesthetic reasons.
I like that his accessory matches with one of his A tier skin too, because of the time frame the acc was released, also yeah it makes it pretty obvious and the sound is annoying

Facts
You know what they should add for explorer ? The possibility to jump and hold on teammate while shrunked, so that it can hide, body block, solce its lack of speed without making it too broken and above all it's so funny
I know of a survivor who can already do that and nobody likes it when they can do that, so I doubt NetEase will add that. Only difference is that Explorer is actually useful in comparison
even though explorer is the "worst decoder" but in terms of kiting and mindplay, hes the top tier due to his reduced footprint trait being able to stack with the persona reducing footprint trait, making your trails last only for a sec and his silent vault is best used when you kite in an area where line of sight is cut off
do you mind making the text smaller? watching on a laptop makes eyes move from one side to the other. with smaller characters one can focus on one part of the screen whilst being able to look at the background. very informative and quick video nice nice

Honestly with Explorer you just have to know how to play him, my friends an A Badge explorer and a pretty good kiter, but one good thing is that he always hides for so long and wastes the hunters time. I guess most characters are good if you just know them well
Former B badge explorer here, I just wanted to say that there’s no greater joy than gaslighting a hunter. Also, bc One can see the hunter radius of up to 60 meters, with good communication, you can coordinate teammates to hide to prolong the first kite from starting while still getting some progress done on ciphers that are far away. They also counter quite a bit of hunters surprisingly (not by a critical amount, but hey it’s something). Also to just straight up avoid peepers? Sensational.
I might make a new version of this list out alongside the other lists I should be doing because a lot of the decoder meta has changed drastically since this list was made and a lot of feelings I've had on these characters have changed, especially Explorer.

I have a strong opinion that no survivor in this game is bad (Unless your name rhymes with Morbius). So I agree that Mind's eye isn't that bad. But yeah, that's a lot of things to juggle, which just makes her feel yucky.

@rqj5502 not only did literally any other support trumps him in every way back then, but you also didn't start with your item. In a game where the meta is heavily on item usage and the early game, it's just really bad.

I've played for 2yrs I definitely agree to lawyer and prisoner being one of the tops. stopped playing for a year so I missed out on composer and some other updates and this really helped
It do be true tho the only time mech can only ever be a good decoder is if she still has a bot for decoding.

Prisoner and Composer have built in kiting tools, but Composer has no debuff (Prisoner has a debuff, but he should have another one). Give him a 15% vaulting debuff and a 40% rescuing debuff. Explorer should also have a vaulting debuff too.

Hear me out- minds eye is an A- tier. As a b badge,her passive is honestly the most important part of her kit, tied with the decoding speed:
If you’re in an enclosed area like factory, hospital, graveyard, and generally 2 story areas, she has very good chase, despite her lack of vaulting speed

Yeah, I couldn't resist making a joke of my incompetence. Also I can understand that angle. Tier lists are mostly subjective anyways and I do think Mind's Eye has potential. It's just, at the moment, she doesn't stand out to me. I'm glad to hear you can see the good in her. I'm definitely still not salty about the vision change, even with this new knowledge.

But I can see where you’re coming from, unless you actually play her or know people who do, you’d never knew how good she really is, and even though her kit seems boring, it makes for a surprisingly fun experience, at least more fun than lawyer, coordinator, priestess, enchantress, and other characters like her. She still stands as a very unique character, not as unique as first officer, prisoner, prospector, or as fun as mech, forward, and patient, but honestly I love the unique passive. However, she has some…GLARING ISSUES
-kite in the open = 5 second kite
-get chaired early? VERY low rebound potential
-get found at spawn? tough luck winning unless you spawned in a good area
-teleport? tough luck winning unless you decoded in a good area
-quenching thirst? guarantee chase for TME
and obviously, her cane revealing her location, which is still a very unnecessary decision.
All of these really weigh down on her, and in general she’s restricted to very few areas. If I’d make a case just for mech where different scenarios will place her on different tiers:
-Hospital: S tier kiter (I’m fr, I’ll be honest she’s a great choice in that map)
Graveyard, carnival, ship, ruins: A+-A-
camp hunters: A (cus she’s not rescuing and their chase is usually just “fine”, perfect for Helena)
hunters that counter looping: C. (She relies on it, so Naiad, Gamekeeper, Clerk, and as well Mary, even though she’s not known as the anti loop queen, added by the fact that many of these have built in peepers)
other types of chase: variable (I’ll just say new hunter is an A, as she will probably be behind walls anyways, vio is a B because of how they usually bring peepers, a great Helena counter, but is slow so Helena can handle them, and Hermit is straight up C because he’s Anti-loop, disturbs her decoding, her decoding buff doenst do much anyways, and she’s overall a very bad choice)
However, all of this is using the ruins found in every map. If she’s kiting in ship, hospital, the tent in moonlit, and the like, she definitely gains a bonus.
sidenote: I also wanna add that honestly if you see anyone who wears the gilda skin just run, they’re usually a 90% of the time Helena from experience.

Mind's Eye use to be the best decoder in the game before they added the others and many people main her to flex their kiting skills(Queen Rawr is chief among them). But after the rework with her blind mechanic and adding more practical decoders, she's now ancient history.

As a B badge mech your team has to know how she works or your fucked. If they don't heal your decoding is gone especially if you were found first and doll is gone. She's super op if your on a good team and she can just murder the ciphers without having the whole team being hurt. Basically mech game play is knee-jerk, praying for the bot, spamming heal yourself then not getting the cipher pop because a mercenary thinks he's invincible and wouldn't heal the entire game.
Mech is great if you have a team who can actually team work and people who can kite.
Realistically, I agree and feel that Mechanic is an S tier or at least A tier. But yeah, teams can really hurt her and I just feel she doesn't provide much if she doesn't have doll
Nah explorer is the first survivor that can hide footprints. Second is antiquarian. No others can.

I do think you put mech a little too low, like after decoding Nerf to the bot, the bot can't finish a whole cipher if Mech is chased first, because, before Nerf, you're playing a 4 cipher game no matter what. But now, if you get chased first it is like a 4 1/2 or 4 1/4 cipher game. Mech can always at least get half a cipher done so she should at least be top 3.

As a S badge Explorer In the NA/EU server. (alexreyesE) I would like to say that most of the things you said are true. But I learned how to kite using my book. And when you use your book in chase it allows you to be immune to some hunters secondary abilities. For example BQ can’t see you with her mirror when ur small in chase. So therefore her ability has no affect on explorer. Or feasters tentacles, or peepers for that matter.
Yeah, I may have left this fact out or have forgotten about it. It also works on Ann's cat aura funnily enough. It definitely helps him a lot, but other than that, book seems like a hindrance as well with the slower speeds. Thank you for the clarification though!
in my opinion, explorer is probably the 3-4th best decoder, so I really really disagree with you here. not counting the upcoming buff where he slowly gets progress while digging, explorer has 0 debuffs whatsover (unless you are very bad with cali's) and thus have decent kiting abilities. If you bring full Lightweight, his trail only lasts for a second and his silent vault can help him make an instant getaway from the killer in a good position. His stealth mode also counters Peepers and a few more detection abilities, making him the best for stealth. The close ranged detection, while not helpful on a cipher, makes it really good for roaming around for pages while slowing you down little if you just tap it every 3s instead of staying in stealth. Also once he had 2 pages, he can instantly break the team out of triple-genlock situations, turning entire tides around. While lacking in chase, he excels at not getting in chases, and imo he is better than minds eye AND frederick, since helena is extremely weak against hunters (especially anti-loop ones) and frederick's ability and kit is lackluster as a whole.
the small speed boost is also nice.
i still find him useless, atleast that what i think. like whats the point of digging for some toilet papers when you can actually decode the ciphers 🧍♀️
Explorer is the 2nd strongest for run and hide in the whole game.
All his traits, hide footprints, silent vaulting, movement boost.

He just need to hit a hunter with pallets, then run and shrink hide.
Very hard to catch one who know how to play hide and seek.
Basically one of the decoder with the strongest defense. Other decoder type just got caught pretty easily and die at very early.

Thats fair. I personally do think she is overrated as hell, but I don't think she's bad or anything. Hell, realistically, she trumps all the other decoders. It's just I prefer versatility over just her item

as helena main i totally agree she's kinda boring to play as and very intensed since you will get chased whole the time, the reason i used her bcuz her ability, it's nice, and im not a kind of player who like to kite hunter, I rather do objective, i barely rescuing my teammates bcuz if i saved them, i would be the next target😅😅😅well, idk about giving her buff? maybe increase her interactions faster like the pallet and vault 😢 aside of her, i always use psychologist ,barmaid and perfumer
Do you really walk slow when your in tiny form as Explorer? I'm pretty sure not, maybe you think your slower because the camera got high. And fyi you can use your book when kiting, after running on a pallet you can immediately tap the book and drop the pallet, the hunter wouldn't expect you to drop the pallet since your small

You do move slower when you're tiny. The game probably doesn't say it, but you do. In fact, the speed was slightly buffed when they were still doing changes to him. That's more or less the reason why I don't kite with the book.
Also I probably didn't word the Prisoner tid bit well. When I said he can't sense the hunter as well, I meant he can't sense the hunter as well as the other decoders since the hunter needs to be closer. I just didn't want to mess with the text box anymore, so I left that part out

Technically speaking, none of the decoders are supposed to be kiting characters. That's not what they're best at. They have kiting potential and it's stupid that they do, but thats not their role. If I were to judge Explorer solely on his stealth and not his kiting or his Traits, that wouldn't sit right. Besides, as stated, Explorer isn't a bad character (I'm incline to say there's no real bad survivors in this game), but so many things can go wrong when playing him that I often feel it's not worth playing him.
And I strongly agree the Mechanic is overrated ☺️
6:07 pro tips for mind eye early game is that you need to hide after use a cane not straight decoding especially when there a hunter who can teleport
Edit: just make sure not to be found first that all and mind eye can ciper rush the Hunter

In my opinion, lawyer is not better than mechanic. Yes I agree that mechanic mainly relies on her bot to be useful but that makes her very versatile. If she has time to hide the bot, then even if she is found first by hunter she can still decode while on chair. If not, ahe can use bot to bodyblock and act as a semi psychologist, if a high skill player or lucky enough she might need even 4 hit to down, which guarantee at least 60s. If she not found, then the bot can done at least 1 cipher and her main body around 35-40% of a cipher including debuffs. Overall, with her buff in vaulting speed and bot to bodyblock she is not terribly weak as a kiter anymore. In high tier where players can choose their spawn point it is harder for her to hide the bot but my point would stand, she would need at least 3 hit to down, which is already buy so much time. If not found, cipher rush guarantee. For lawyer, he is not bad and after done 1 cipher his decoding speed is very good. However, if he has to kite first then it cannot activate at all unless the hunter switch target, which is very unlikely because he has nothing to kite aside from the veteran and terro immune. Speaking of that, those traits are good, but not enough to prevent you from getting hit. His terro immune yes enable you to make some risky descision and make lawyer act as a semi mercenary when rescuing but that it. Overall, he is really good if he is not found and his kit main purpose is to help him avoid the hunter. However, when in high tier when people can choose spawn location, then lawyer is probably 90% of the hunters target as again he has nothing to kite and the only speed boost he gain to make distance is the veteran and that require getting hit too. If regard to decoding only, I still think mechanic is better. Her bot has immediate decoding speed boost and allow mech to decode two separate ciphers at the same time. The decoding debuff on the main body is bad but the bot alone can do 1.5 cipher or at least 1 cipher and the gate which is very good already. The main thing is when the bot allow the whole team to 5v1, and it immediate benefits is crucial. For lawyer, he is a normal survivor until he finish decode 1 cipher, which is bad compare to the bot

Sorry if it seems that way. But the main point I wanted to make was I don't want to just factor a character's item to how good they are. I wanna factor their item and their traits in general. And while Mechanic's bot is really good, she fucking sucks in general without it compared to the others above it. Also with the confirmed nerf coming to Mech, this placement may not change anytime soon.
