Canggu is like a theme park. It's super convenient, you have all the variety in terms of food that you could dream of. There is lots to do and many people to meet. However, in my opinion it's only great for a while and after some time it's sickening because you'll see through the facade and notice all the things that are terribly messed up. Basically, it's only a theme park for foreigners where most locals can't afford to live, eat anymore due to the rent and restaurant prices being really high (relatively speaking). Locals are only there as servants. Additionally, albeit being convenient to only use English it's a shame that many foreigners who live there long term do not learn Indonesian. How can someone say their home is Bali without knowing the official language of the country? Canggu is by far the most unauthentic and twisted place that I know. So for everyone considering moving to Bali long term please don't get stuck in Canggu and try to learn the language.
@@JooseTheNomad Hmm, I understand what he's talking about although I was hanging out with locals due to a friend who's a native speaker. Could locals afford to eat in the places? Yes. But were there many? No, definitely not. Same as in many other touristy places in Thailand. Can they afford it? Yeah. But you'll not see many. Then we went to much more local places and it was like 70-80% locals. Prices were a bit cheaper but not too much. Very, very crowded but only locals. Locals are skipping the touristy places. @@multa7053 yeah I have got to know many locals during my time in Bali and mostly they don't even like the food in touristy cafes. They just wanna eat the local food in local places, I don't think having more foreigners change that in any way😅
@@JooseTheNomad The cost of living in Canggu is crazy with rents in simple guesthouses or local apartments being 6 million plus. However, most locals like waiters/waitresses in the fancy cafés only earn something between 3 to 5 million per month for full-time work. So for them its near impossible to keep living there. I have lived in Canggu myself for more than a year on and off and stayed in guesthouses with locals. However, due to our landlord raising the rent every couple of months because of an ongoing demand from foreigners many locals where more or less not able to afford the rent anymore and had to move elsewhere. I mean this problem is not new, it's happening in a lot of places worldwide, Lisbon, Barcelona to name a few. I still enjoy going to Canggu every now and then but for living constantly I personally just feel weird in an environment where only people lucky enough to be born in richer countries can live. Quick advise for the people reading the comment section. If you want to see the real Bali, dont go to west cost such as canggu, kuta, seminyat, perenanan and etc. Go east coast and northern part of the island. If you want to have mediocre, expensive and luxurious stay in Bali, you can do it in your own country as well.
@@JooseTheNomad yes I understand, but being a digital nomad, doesnt stop you go north or east. Bali is not neither Canggu, Kuta or Seminyak. There is so many places ppl need to learn. Part of what you are talking about in the video and most specially the traffic is because everybody are technically stuck in place like that, simply because no one in YT talk about anything other than west coast :))
Canggu was extremely disappointing. I preferred Seminyak. It was a bit more pricey and sophisticated, so the Gen Z backpackers couldn't afford it. Holla! 😊
I've been in Canggu for 30 days in June this year, it's a sh|t hole. Surfing on that beach? why don't you show all of the sewer that goes directly in the ocean? Open septics all over, rats size of female cat, horrible smell on every street and salmonella on every corner. The whole Canggu is dirty, basically India on steroids. And self claimed instagram models walking around with their dirty feet, like in Mad Max movie. And if you want to have European standard and quality , you will spend more money than for example in Norway(one of the most expensive countries in EU). Thanks to "social media influencers"my expectations were really high when I came to Bali, and I've been looking for that promised paradise and walking around Canggu for hours and I realized it's more like Bangladesh or India.
@@JooseTheNomad bad things in Bali are obvious,Bali is India on steroids....and no one on YT shows how dirty and unhygienic it really is..everyone just praising Bali and calling it a paradise...I mean I would understand if you were from Bangladesh, Then Bali would be leveling up, but mate you are from Finland, and I've been to Finland many times and what I can tell you there's no trash and smells in Finland like in Bali. You can see it in your own video while you ride the scooter around, trash around everywhere. Is that a paradise?
@@maliplaviklc Did I call it a paradise? I probably have in the past with a meaning of paradise for the lifestyle. I even said in this video that it's like a city with all the benefits with that. Protein smoothies 12 AUD is more expensive than Sydney... the gym you went to is 45 AUD single day entry... double the price if a gym in Sydney. 😅
@@LucaAliberti why would you go to a gym with day pass?😆 The gym in Sydney probably not having a recovery area like in Bali? Also not aure where did you get 12aud for protein smoothies? How much does it cost in Sydney to order delivery home?
@@JooseTheNomad Excluding delivery, The smoothie is 98K Rp, which is 10 AUD, which is pretty much the day salary of a Balinese person :( The same smoothie in Sydney, at Top Juice, is 9.50 dollars, including the protein powder, and generally, people consider it already very expensive (in one of the most expensive city in the world)
The week pass is 180K, 180 AUD. Even if you go 5 times in a week, it is still roughly 40 AUD per entry.

I think if you want the comforts of the western world but in a tropical place then its perfect. but don't you think the gap between Tourists/foreigners and locals are too big? Isn't it too gentrified?
@@ilikeninjasmorethanu What kind of gap?
@@JooseTheNomad the social disparity. the clear distinction between how foreigners live and locals. they rarely intertwine? It seems all these great establishments are clearly catered and curated for the tourists/foreigners. What do you think?
@@ilikeninjasmorethanu why is that a problem tho? Locals don't care to pay so much for these western things anyway, they have their own places😄
@@JooseTheNomadThe land is largely dominated by foreigners, making many things inaccessible to the locals and causing it to lose its authenticity. There's a significant gap between the experiences of locals and foreigners.
Locals and foreigners tend to lead separate lives, and there's a limited sense of community between them.

@@ShanoMoments Point of the video is for nomads not for just a holiday trip
@@JooseTheNomad yes I understand, but being a digital nomad, doesnt stop you go north or east. Bali is not neither Canggu, Kuta or Seminyak. There is so many places ppl need to learn. Part of what you are talking about in the video and most specially the traffic is because everybody are technically stuck in place like that, simply because no one in YT talk about anything other than west coast :))
@@ShanoMoments I don't think it's true no one talk about the travel😄
