- One of Portal 2's easiest levels ended up holding the game's hardest Wrong Warp skip, here's how speedrunners conquered it.
Also yes, a full speedrun of Secret Panel performs a Pancake shot and the Toast Skip, might just call it breakfast at that point.

I like to think that speedrun Chell is canon, and within moments of getting her hands on a portal gun she starts zooming across the facility, while GLaDOS and Wheatley watch in disbelief.

I have a theory: msushi and cant even are the same person. Both use one significant color, nothing else (purple and red). Both had some head to head action in older videos (one beated the other). And again, cant even set a new record, after msushi and the other speedrunners discovered the first skip he explains in this video. And third, u never see both of them at the same time. So my theory is, that msushi and cant even are actually one person, but msushi keeps this a secret to us, bcuz this is his secret strategy to become better by challenging himself, while being a different person... (Sry if my english is bad, its not my native one)

In my first playthrough I skipped finding PotatOS in the bird nest by flinging myself precisely over the top of the aperture logo instead of through it when the door opened, so she just randomly appeared in my hand like Wheatley does here 7:52
I began to believe that Valve left all these holes in the collision box SOLELY to mess with speedrunners
I love learning about speedrunning for a couple of reasons. One, I'm amazed at the lengths people will go to in order to save small amounts of time, and I'm impressed at the difficult tricks top runners can pull off. And two, I love seeing how different speedrun communities name their strats. Deep down, we're all just nerds who like to play game fast, and even though I don't run Portal myself (yet) I'm a huge fan of the food-themed strat names xD

It never ends, just because physicists have been doing physics for thousands of years doesn’t mean they’ve found all the physics, who knows if they ever will. It’s the same for speedrunning. Some old games are simple enough to be solved, but most (including portal 2) are nowhere close.

I have never seen something so unhuman until I started diving deeper into the speedrunning community, there's no way that people can perform pixel perfect tricks for an hour long...

This is on the levels of insanity like the 4-2 wrong warp in the original Mario Bros where something that is RTA might seem impossible, but practice makes perfect!

I feel like I should point out that popcorn also sometimes leaps up when it pops into popcorn. It's pretty fun to watch at special festivities or at a movie theater. As such, "Popcorn skip" could also be a possible viable name for "Toast skip". Not that I actually expect the name to change for anyone after all this time.

Doesn't this mean that the WR for the chamber after Secret Panel is technically only possible in a full game run where you use the toast skip to start the level and skip the doors slowly opening?
No - the individual level runs are usually done in challenge mode where you start at the intended starting place of the level.
I guess if you’re like an ultra speedrun purist - yes you can do the level faster with the toast skip, but the community only really acknowledges challenge mode for IL runs

The thing I love about speedrunning is that the pattern is: There is no skip; someone finds a skip but it might not be replicable; someone does a TAS run which proves that the skip is replicable but requires so much skill that no human could possibly do it; a human does it; another human does it; it's considered okay for individual level runs; humans start to do it consistently; it's done in a full run; it's done in a record-breaking full run; it becomes the main way of doing that bit; people forget that there was ever a time when that bit was run differently.
I’m not even surprised anymore. Don’t tell a human something is impossible. They will do it anyway, and you’ll look like the fool. The first person to do something impossible is a legend. Instead of calling it impossible, go out and do it yourself. 👍
