    One can appreciate all the planning that goes into the launch of even a small ship like this. One screw up and it's a very bad day. While a yacht like this represents a great show of wealth, it also represents employment for a crew, the designers, the collection of greatly skilled welders, carpenters, riggers and so many others. I would not have picked that music, but I can make my own video if I want, right? It was a great display of men working as a team getting their baby safely in the water. Fun stuff!

      10 to 1 odds that the majority of skilled people working that job can't pay their bills let alone afford to buy a new car or buy a home.

    The person who planned this launching is indeed a very intelligent man, as he knew what could happen if he did not increase that side buoyancy at the back. Congratulations.

      Is that because there is insufficient buoyancy in the stern section alone to maintain stability along the length of the vessel once the stern begins to float which could lead to the whole vessel toppling even though it is still supported at the bow by the launch cradle?

    • @carmelpule6954
      @carmelpule6954 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Peter Lovett, Sir, You are absolutely correct, there is a combination of issues to consider. First the slope, then the bow support and stern buoyancy to enable it to float and side buoyancy to stabilise it and keep it without side inclination.
      As the craft goes down the slope it is mechanically stabilised by the front and rear trolley but as soon as the stern enters the water, some buoyancy would be created and this will transfer the weight from the rear trolley to the buoyancy effect. But because of the slope, the stern needs to enter the water substantially to provide full buoyancy but meanwhile the craft is being supported by the front trolley, and by the buoyancy on the stern which makes the centre of gravity very high with no side buoyancy being present at the maximum beam of the craft. Indeed a disastrous situation, which many people do not realise till it is too late.
      When you see the following videos, you can appreciate the reason why I had to complement the man responsible for this launching, and his foresight.

    Yacht Pulling: using a "road train" of 18-wheelers, draws upon the exact science used by the trailering division at Ford. I was able to use the cruise-control at highway speed, towing the 800,000 pounder straight down I-95: from our plant in Newfoundland to the launch site in Jupiter, FL.

      Yacht builder in Vancouver Wash. right next to the Columbia River. They have about a block to travel. Straight shot and that is their cove the put it in. I get your point though, they should own their own river!! Pain in the ass waiting for them to get out of the way so the public launch can be accessed.

    There are plenty of tires to carry the load. There are 12 axles each with 8 tires on making 96 tires in total. 800,000 divided by 96 = 8,333 lbs per tire. That's only just over 4 US tons per tire which is easy, particularly at such a low speed.

    • @tgk300xx4
      @tgk300xx4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 tonnes is a lot at low speed. Its not because the axles and tyres cant take it, its because the road can't. There are axles in the world that can hold 400,000 lbs e.g. Mining trucks, however, if you did carry this on two axles, the road would almost certainly cave and the vehicle would most likely sink into the ground causing damage the both the yacht, and vehicle as well as the roadway.

    I have seen that launch ramp. That is a big vessel for that ramp. Not the easiest place to launch something that size. It’s a tight fit. Your 20 foot Bayliners and Sea Rays launch at the public ramp 1/8 mile to the west. This area is the site of the Kaiser Vancouver Shipyard. The 12 slipways which launched over 171 ships in World War II still remain starting next to the public ramp. 50 of those ships were the escort aircraft carriers of the Casablanca class. 5 were sunk by hostile forces during the war. We lost 11 US aircraft carriers sunk during the war. A number of others were severely damaged. And 2 of these carriers actually hit Japanese ships using their 5 inch gun during the battle off Samar, where 2 of the escort carriers were sunk during this battle.

      Lester Hartness Oh, what a joy talking to a yank. What I was saying is that the presence of a huge frigate armed with lots of weapons didn't stop attacks on other ships. DUH!

      Oh what a joy it is reading your condescending babble referring to us American Citizens as "Yanks". Do you still do that over there? How quaint.... Ah, so easy for a generation to forget the days when Americans were HEROES over there and how we saved them from the grasp of a German Dictator. If not for us, they would be speaking German... Verstehen? So stop your "Holier than thou" attitude and know that, if needed, an AMERICAN would be at your doorstep to help defend YOUR country.

    Maybe they should have built the boat yard RIGHT NEXT TO THE WATER.

    Here's a crazy idea, why not build the boat in a factory next to the water?

      Pat, i'm not sure where I said anything was a bad thing. I merely pointed out that one does not necessarily have work hard to become wealthy. Some people are wealthy the day they are born. This fact is neither a bad thing nor a good thing, it's just a real thing.
