I wonder how much those hypocrites waste on going to the theater, sporting events, buying a coffee every day, living in a bigger house than they need, buying up the latest technology in cell phones, televisions, weight training equipment, cars, surround sound equipment, dining out, etc. Until you are giving much of your money away, don't trash on someone who didn't give his away.

      ***** right? 300 million on something he probably only uses as a status symbol. I can understand 300 million being spent on lots of things. Food, buildings, developing new technology and helping better the world as a whole. But i couldn't in my right mind imagine spending that much on a fucking boat that isnt even that nice. The reason so many people have issues with this is because there are people all over the world who work everyday just to get by then this asshole buys a boat that never gets used.

They also opened that motor boat bay. I had a Russian speaker with me. We were going to hire a motor boat to go out, and ask boarding permission. My wife came around and said "don't mess with the Russians'. I sure wanted to try.

If I were a rich businessman I imagine I'd be someone who knew a thing or two about money and could appreciate it's value. He ain't getting his money's worth on them 40k knobs. A lot of people will call it a crime for one man to have so much wealth when so many are so hungry. Ithink the real crime is frivolity. It's wasteful and arrogant.

      DanTheDragonslayer Most of those Russian billionaires are just front men for powerful cartels and cliques. They are allowed to live like billionaires, but in the end they are just there so the guys who really control the money in Russia can hide behind them.
      Also, even if he were a "self made" billionaire, he would have made his money using formerly state owned, rusty old equipment he didn't need to buy or build, to suck oil and/or gas out of the ground. Why should someone like that have an understanding or appreciation for the money he has? It isn't as if he would have come up with great ideas and worked hard to create something new, like people like Bill Gates.
      The way those oligarchs and the people behind them became billionaires was that when the Soviet Union collapsed, the formerly state owned companies were just given to the people who worked there. When that happened, smart, weaselly crooks visited those people at home, made them drunk and made them sign their shares in the companies over to them and those workers who refused to do so, were blackmailed and intimidated.
      That is how small time crooks, nobody ever had heard of before, suddenly ended up being the owners of formerly state owned Russian oil, gas and mining companies.
      They also never invested any money in the infrastructure of those oil fields and gas wells and all that. They still use the rusty, old equipment that was there when they stole the companies.
      I'd be surprised if those "business men" even were able to find the oil or gas fields they "own" on a map.

    Gotta say the design looks pretty ugly and poorly thought out. The exterior design leaves much to be desired and there is hardly anything you can really do on the deck other than sit in a little spa. Not to mention it looks like its much easier for water to flood the deck and go down into the corridors of the ship and ruin the interior.
    I get that this guy wanted to make something that looked like a submarine, but there is a reason why subs are designed to be in such a shape and ships are not. Subs are meant to sink into the ocean. For ships, Not so much...

    I couldn't afford the water to wash this boat. However, all the people complaining about "wasting" all that money and doing better by giving it to the poor or charity really don't understand how economics works. They don't think of all the people employed to build it or design it. Manufacture the 1000s of parts. Ship those parts. Refine and ship the fuel to run it. The $ it costs to dock it at a marina which pays their employees salaries. The employees it takes to operate it. Insurance, which employs the insurance co's staff. Maintenance on it which employs dozens more people.

    It's all about luck. People who are rich have been lucky. They were incalculably lucky to be born, and incredibly lucky to be brought up by a nice family that helped them get educated and achieve monetary success. Or if they were born into a horrible family, that’s unlucky… but they were still lucky: lucky that they happened to be made of the sort of DNA that made the sort of brain which - when placed in a horrible childhood environment - would make decisions that meant they ended up, eventually, becoming rich. Well done to them, for dragging themselves up by the shoelaces, but they were lucky. They didn’t create the bit of them that dragged them up... And the role of the lucky is to realise that they are exactly that, lucky. A moral action is one which attempts to restore balance, attempts to help the unlucky, and buying a $300 million yacht to die on does no such thing.

    • @CaptainBill22
      @CaptainBill22 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @flyurway
      @flyurway 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nicely written little essay. I can share your perspective except for one thing, I don't think it's the job of the rich (or lucky) to just spend their lives running around helping everyone else all the time. I think one should be entitled to what he can (legitimately) earn and to spend it as he see's fit. He earned it, it's his business what he does with it. Many people that "need" help either got themselves into a mess through their own stupidity or just don't want to bother to help themselves in the first place...I have no sympathy for either of them.

    • @slolecyaj
      @slolecyaj 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andork Kuomo I don't think you do share my perspective. A newborn child in Nigeria who was born today and will likely die tomorrow did not get "themselves into a mess through their own stupidity". Yet this man's $300 million testament to his egoism could save tens of thousands of children like this.

    • @CaptainBill22
      @CaptainBill22 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      slolecyaj While a child is born innocent just throwing money at the situation solves nothing. More than likely you will agitate the social, religious, and economic issues they face. People in the Middle East and Africa have been killing themselves for thousands of years without foreign intervention. It's not our business what happens in Nigeria. A child is lucky to die shortly after birth than to live, suffer, and possibly be forced to kill their own families. The wealthy are obligated to pay their employees, stockholders, taxes, bills, and living expenses. The wealthy have no obligation to involve themselves in the welfare of a foreign nation and it's people. If it their wish to do so it's their own business, but they don't owe the world or it's inhabitants one damn thing.

    • @slolecyaj
      @slolecyaj 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      And if you were espousing these views while it was your daughter dying of diarrhoea I might consider them more valid. Good for partying, and elite get-togethers. Although, if it were up to me, I would've spent the $300 million on building a luxury full-size (830 ft) rigid airship (or a "Zeppelin"" as some people would call it) A helicopter pad on top "might" work too... When I'm not using the airship for special events/parties, etc, , I could have it in commercial use, for chartering, etc., to help promote the idea and use of big rigid airships again. I suppose if I could afford the $300 million for the airship, I could also afford another $100 million for a good modern, well staffed shed/hanger facility.. I bet if I did this, I could sell more airships, than that Russian guy could sell more luxury yatchs. I'd show up at that Farnborough Airshow the night before, with all airship's light on, and shuttle VIP's back and forth in the chopper, for walk-through tours of the airship. I think I'd probably fill my quota of orders and serious prospects, to keep the airship building shop busy for a while.

    • @Deurlaus
      @Deurlaus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zepplin fuel doesn't have to be flammable. The Hindenburg and other German Airships at the time only used Hydrogen because the US trade embargo stopped them from getting the Helium they needed to mix with the hydrogen and prevent it from being as Flammable. Modern airships could even use carbon fibre vacuum chambers and get even more lift, with no flammable gas at all.

    • @Napoleon501ste
      @Napoleon501ste 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cody Innes "There are far fewer billionaires by inheritance than by self creation" Well I would like to see some proof of that. You just dont know the inheritance once because they are not known for what they have accomplished.
      Anyway, what does self creation mean? Lots of billionaires became so rich because they found a semi legal way to steal all the money. Just look at all the Russian billionaires who bought very cheap/stole huge companies after the end of communism for almost nothing. It took a lot of balls the right friends no conscience and some basic intelligence. These are not super smart people. How come so many nobel price winners are not billionaires if the system rewards you for IQ like you claim. I think you know the answer. Anyway I have no problem with rich people. I count myself as one. But I don't say that I am rich because I deserve it. Its cause I was lucky.

    • @Napoleon501ste
      @Napoleon501ste 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That lists proofs nothing. It only shows who is billionair by inheritance and did nothing with that money. It does not show who was not a billionair by inheritance and became it by self creation.

    • @Napoleon501ste
      @Napoleon501ste 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I still see a lot of sons and daughters who inherited companies or starting capital. Even if the short overview says self made, it often turns out to be an inheritance that was well spend or not wasted. I wouldn't call that self made.
      And even if people are self made, do they deserve so much money? Nobody earns that much, they win it. Even if they are smart of good at what they do. There is no reason why 'smart' people should get so much and 'stupid' people get so little. I don't agree with savgal1211's statement that rich people must be smart and I don't think that being smart can ever justify so much money. So yes I think it is okey if people are envious. They should be. This myth that we created about money being a measuring tool of your value as a person is just not true, the fact that bill gates is a self made man does not change that.

      can you imagine how many strangers you need to have on a payroll just to maintain this boat, let alone run it? It's not an inflatable boat, its a ship!

    Saw this yacht up close in Moorea and Bora Bora, two years ago. Pretty impressive to say the least. With its unique design you can't help stopping and staring. My wife and I went to dinner at Mai Kai Bora Bora in Vaitape and ended up sitting a table over from Mr. Melnichenko, his wife and their maltese. Caught a good glimpse of the tender parked at the dock after dinner. Very cool, inside and out! Like a piece of jewelry.
