Mind blowing solo. Landing in weird modal places perfectly placed in time. And then he seamlessly does this 2 string alternating thing bouncing between a descending chromatic string and a higher pitched drone string one string below. He just flies all over the place. Long fingers and being right handed give him all the advantages on this type of solo. Unstoppable.

Excuse me to come in this conversation. I'm from Brasil, and what I have to say, is that I think the drums are in Bossa, but the congas and rest o percussion, are giving more caracteristic of Bolero. But it's nice anyway! Thank you!

I'm approaching it in a slightly different way:
G dorian for Gm7 first 2 bars,
C Dorian (G minor) over Cm
then one bar each: G minor (focus on Am7b5 arpeggio), D Altered, G minor pentatonic, D altered (or D minor pentatonic sometimes not sure)

Super, merci Seb pour ce backing track, je m'attaque depuis peu à la gamme mineure mélodique pour arriver à utiliser le lydienb7 et le mode altéré, ici j'ai une utilisation du Lydienb7 extraordinaire sur le Ab7#11 de la gamme de Eb mineur mélo et je surkiff. (Même si je suis pas encore top à l'aise avec cette gamme en général)

Hi Sebastian. I have "zero" music theory, so I'm apologizing in advanced if I'm ask a "dumb" question. If you want to improvise with a backing track, in this case, the backing track is in G minor, do you need to "always" use the "same" key as the backing track? Do backing tracks always stay in the "same" key throughout? This is the "first" time I want to try my hand at improvising. Thanks.
Usually I try to make backing track that stay in the same key for the improvisors ( instead of backing tracks with modulations ) 🤗

It's funny. Just a day or two ago I was thinking, ya know, I should try to solo to some bossa nova backing tracks, and then a few days later this appears. Very timely, but after hearing your solo, ....eh, ... I am not so self-assured all the sudden. I don't have your set of assets so I will have to take a different approach than you did, but I have no idea what that is. Oh well, ....roll tape!

Hello! I love your backing track but would like to clarify that G Aeolian does not work on the entirety of this track. Pulling from this scale we see the relative major is Bb major , home to Bb and Eb as its accidentals. Therefore your Am7b5 works as the half diminished chord living on the second degree of the scale , but Ab7 with tension sharp eleven is a dead giveaway as a Sub V of I (one). You do not use a diatonic scale for this chord. You have to use Lydian Dominant, a combination of Lydian and Mixolydian.

i get lost on tgat Ab7#11 what scale should i use? i used tge mixolydian mode of E because it fits in, sort of.
No don’t worry, it’s a tritonic substitutions of D7 you can use Ab Lydian b7 or D superlocrian, it’s the same notes

I humbly believe that the chord progression is not very correct, it can be improved. G m /// C m7 /// F* / D 7 / G m / D 7 / G m /// C m7 /// A m6* / D 7 / G m / D 7 /// ... ........ (The chords 'F' and 'A m6' can be interchanged or alternated)
