      Thanks for the kind words! I don’t sell lap steels, but that tuning is a whole step up from low G tuning, just string up your lap steel! You will never have to worry about bending the neck!

    I inherited a Fender double lap steel from my dad. I used to listen to him play and I loved it. Does any one know the value of this guitar ?

  • @AndrewBarry65

    I cannot play guitar and I'm attracted to this instrument not just for the sound but because I won't be killing my fingers on wire strings. My nails are bitten down severly and fragile. So I'd always use picks. Is it a viable instrument for me? Thanks.

    Does anyone know what set of strings to use for open G tuninig on a lap steel?

  • @CarolBlaneyPhD
    @CarolBlaneyPhD 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone know if his low G is tuned HIGHER than the standard low E of a guitar? (Is there a risk of a standard guitar string breaking?)

    • @leon3smith411
      @leon3smith411 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is higher. His low G is at the same pitch as your low E string fretted at the 3rd fret.
      The tuning is G B D G B D.
      The A string on your guitar will be raised to B.
      The 4th D string remains at the same pitch, as does the 3rd G string, and the 2nd B string.
      The 1st string is lowered from E to D.
      I called Taylor regarding fears of excessive string pressure. They suggested a lighter set, perhaps because of increased pressure on the bridge.
      I bought .052 .042 .032 .023 .015 .011.
      When I strummed the strings, I thought the .011 was too light., so I put it aside and I moved the .015 string into its place.
      Then I found a .020 to use for the 2nd string.
      So new set was .052 .042 .032 .023 .020 .015. It works well as high G tuning, and as a standard tuning, as well.
      Hope this helps.

    Love watching these videos. However, I read somewhere that the best way to learn the pedal steel is to start with a lap steel. Maybe someone (a pedal steel player) can give me a little advice on that 'suggestion'?
    Thanks in advance.

    After watching plenty of Lap Steel lessons like this one, I've come to realize that, in general, country music players tend to understand Music Theory much greater than rock players do.

    • @RSpracticalshooting
      @RSpracticalshooting 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      it depends on the era of rock. if you're talking post-80s rock then you're generally correct. but rock musicians of the 60s, 70s, and 80s were well known for their virtuosity and knowledge of theory.
      to be quite honest, pop music and it's influence on rock have degraded the genre significantly. there are still plenty of highly educated rock musicians that know theory.
      but if we wanna be serious, jazz players make everyone else look like morons when it comes to theory
