I should mention there's one upgrade you don't have that would be awesome if slightly inconvenient to install, and that's a PowerPC 7448 HX1700LD, the last G4 processor designed for general purpose computers (they focused on embedded after apple left). Daystar actually offered this as an upgrade specifically for the aluminum powerbooks called the XLR8 MAChSpeed G4 Aluminum, with a max speed of 1.83 GHz for the 17" and 2 GHz for the 15" (12" got a separate 1.67 GHz 7447A upgrade). Appearently the upgrade included a firmware modification to make the proper speeds appear in System Profiler, I don't know the exact details though. Also, I'm curious how that SSD would have compared to OWC's Mercury Legacy Pro, but unfortunately they don't make them any more.
Curious to know how much faster it'd make the 17", as I just got the 1.67ghz + 2gb ram + SSD and want to get every last drop of performance possible...
I recently acquired a 2003 1.33 GHz 17-inch PowerBook G4. It’s in pretty good condition and runs very well, save for a couple of minor issues (the speakers and F and R keys don’t work). I installed 1 GB of RAM in the form of two 512 MB modules, and ultimately installed a 500 GB M.2 SSD running Sorbet Leopard, which I’m extremely pleased with. :D
17" has the same performance on paper but in reality it has higher clocked video card, better thermals and 4 speakers (against 2 on the 15") and a subwoofer which 15" lacks
Can you tell me where you got these parts? I was unexpectedly given a Powerbook G4 aluminum from a friend and it needs a drive! So I figured I would just do this.
Yes, it probably uses the same chip to talk to the mSATA drives. Unless you use the device everyday, I don't recommend these solutions as they are bottlenecked by the IDE bus and imo are not worth the premium over a comparable SD card solution.
Just got one of these to “fix”, turns out it needs some serious upgrades to get any work done...only has 512mb RAM atm, can’t even load youtube on safari
@MacintoshMen I have a Powerbook G4 that I need to open up eventually so I can clean out the fans and probably add some new thermal paste since it kept overheating last times I used it years ago. Is there a way I could transfer the current install to an SSD and then make the switch without the use of another Mac?
Hello, I have a project of a 1.67 GHz powerbook g4 17'', 2 gb RAM, now with Leopard.. quicktime 7.7, ten four fox 7450, itunes 10, and 10.5 tube... Its works great, I want to know if ¿¿is it possible actualize to an intel processor and in that way install snow leopard or later???
Yeah, it's looking kinda suspicious. I'd say it depends on what the OS did in the background. I might re-run that test on the Indigio, it just appears too fast haha.
Hallo, hab auch noch so ein PPC Mac. Hast Du ggf eine Liste der SSD, der RAM etc wo du des her hast / Links ? Ich würd gern versuchen ob ich mein altes PPC macBook wieder richtig schnell machen könnte ( As fast as possible ;) ) Danke Dir

Great to hear that! SSD just makes those old systems so much better.

Front end of TH-cam that called "Indivious", probably the fastest for old computers.
Good build, thanks from Orlando Florida. I like old computers.
Thanks!
optisch die schönsten books von apple, vor allem der 12"
My boss just gave me one of these, the hard drive is on it's way out, so I may end up dropping in an SSD soon

eBay/Amazon
I want to a timeMachine to buy it.
Hola buen día disculpa donde puedo conseguir el cargador pawerbook G4 65w año 2005 muchas gracias
Is this the same laptop that I saw from a couple years ago?
The one you probably saw was the 1.5 GHz model, I have in total 3 now lol
Great video! The black plastic box in which you put the SSD drive had a SATA to IDE converter, right?
Yes, it probably uses the same chip to talk to the mSATA drives. Unless you use the device everyday, I don't recommend these solutions as they are bottlenecked by the IDE bus and imo are not worth the premium over a comparable SD card solution.
Yeah, it's not worth it because of IDE speed, but I decided to put it in anyway because it was still cheaper than getting a real IDE SSD.

Those computers are vintage. You have to use third party programs to use TH-cam such as TenFiveTube. PPCs are outdated in 2021.
Remember when you threw the broken iBook @ the tree. I just watched that video the other day.
Yes, sure I did haha

hey there, I was just wondering where you got your mSATA to ATA converter, I want to try this out for myself.
I bought it off Amazon
Where can I get hard drive and RAM in order to upgrade a Powerbook G4 12 inch ?
Awesome..

No, absolutely impossible
Hmm... why would the iMac G3 Indigo be so high up their with the G4s in CPU score? That's technically not possible?
Yeah, it's looking kinda suspicious. I'd say it depends on what the OS did in the background. I might re-run that test on the Indigio, it just appears too fast haha.
I have a laptop I'm looking to upgrade can you list the parts needed in this build and where you sourced them through.
Got them all on eBay and Amazon

720P TH-cam on a 1.33Ghz Powerbook:

SSD for cheaper solution, but it's not worth it for G4.
Yeah, it's not worth it and I don't plan on using this laptop for anything, but I found it would make a cool video and experiment.
Are you German?
No, from Austria
