- Back Door Man
William James "Willie" Dixon (July 1, 1915 -- January 29, 1992) was an American blues musician, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and record producer.[1] A Grammy Award winner who was proficient on both the Upright bass and the guitar, as well as his own singing voice, Dixon is arguably best known as one of the most prolific songwriters of his time. Dixon is recognized as one of the founders of the Chicago blues sound. His songs have been recorded not only by himself, or that of the trio and other ensembles in which he participated, but an uncounted number of musicians representing many genres between them. A short list of his most famous compositions include "Little Red Rooster", "Hoochie Coochie Man", "Evil", "Spoonful", "Back Door Man", "I Just Want to Make Love to You", "I Ain't Superstitious", "My Babe", "Wang Dang Doodle", and "Bring It On Home". They were written during the peak of Chess Records, 1950--1965, and performed by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter, influencing a worldwide generation of musicians.[2] Next to Muddy Waters, he was the most influential person in shaping the post World War II sound of the Chicago blues.[3] He also was an important link between the blues and rock and roll, working with Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley in the late 1950s. His songs were covered by some of the biggest artists of more recent times, including Styx, Bob Dylan, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Foghat, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Megadeth, The Doors, The Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead,[3] and a posthumous duet with Colin James.
I sing Back Door Man every time I play, and it always pleases, both the men who don't know it, and the little girls who understand. Willy Dixon songs forever.
So so right my brother Willie should go down as one the greatest music writers off all time.

I saw Willie Dixon at The Smiling Dog Saloon on W 25th St in Cleveland, OH., 1972. GREAT show! Only about 30 people there, more rock bands in the '60's used his songs than you'd believe.

William “Willie” Dixon: 7/1/1915
- Perhaps the most important songwriter of blues music in his day, he had a hand in hundreds of songs over the course of his career. He was a major influence in shaping Chicago blues by penning songs for the likes of Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Little Walter, and most importantly, some of the biggest songs in the arsenals of both Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters. Dixon was also an accomplished singer, bandleader, record producer and bassist, and was featured on many of the recordings of the songs he wrote on bass. He influence also crossed over into rock and roll as bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead all utilized many of the songs that sprouted from Dixon’s creative genius.
Norton Buffalo on the harp~SaWeet!
The doors version of "backdoor man" was the best record. Nobody could ever freestyle on the song other than Jim Morrison and sing it with such passion for desire.

damn right, he wrote half of Led Zep I.
That's Norton Buffalo!
Yes... right behind the great Paul deLay.
BTW, Norton would have been the first to agree with me.
Crosby in jail.... Stephen played the blues.
MUITO MELHOR
He sued Led Zepplin for stealing his music and got $1,500,000. Unlike the Stones, Zep felt they owed no duty of respect nor payment of royalties. That was in the early 1970s I think, disgusted me then and never bought another Zepp. It was an obvious rip, was clear to me - a non-playing listener, from the first time I played it.
He should have received much more money...
Willie Dixon didn't write "Crossroads"..Robert Johnson wrote and recorded the original
Why isn't Willie playing bass on this? He's a Master bass player!
That's the late, Norton Buffalo.
Who's on Harp? Was that Norton Buffalo? Sounded like him.
Good on u Buddy. Wanna make some money? Get the frist two Rolling Stones albums or even better Fleetwood Mac. Play it at a party and ask everybody to guess who this Blues Band is for a $1. I once did this in a pub on the west coast in New Zealand and walked out of the Bar well drunk with $100+ bucks in my pocket. Everybody knew Fleetwood Mac, But not the original Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, still Mick Feetwood on drums and McVie on bass. Check it out on TH-cam!
Who is on harmonica?
I believe the harp player is Norton Buffalo - Phillip Jackson (September 28, 1951[1] - October 30, 2009),[2] best known as Norton Buffalo, was an American singer-songwriter, country and blues harmonica player, record producer, bandleader and recording artist who was a versatile proponent of the harmonica, including chromatic[3] and diatonic.[
Um, that's NORTON Buffalo, not "Norman" --
Ok ! ce que je comprends c'est que le pouce en bas c'est surement la preuve que les extra-terrestres existent ! WTF ! Willie Dixon is The Bass Legend of Loudy Groovy Dirty Blue !!
