- Wow - it doesn't get much better than this! There is precious little live footage of the great Howlin' Wolf available so this release is a real stunner. Not only has not been out before but it captures Wolf in top form accompanied by a great band including the mind bending guitar work of Hubert Sumlin and the piano of Sunnyland Slim. Wolf howls the blues, prowls the stage like a caged animal and wails on the harmonica on classic Wolf favorites like "Highway 49/ How Many More Years/Killing Floor/Back Door Man/Decoration Day" and others. In between songs there are fascinating excerpts of an interview with Wolf and Sunnyland. Video and sound quality are excellent. Bought my first Howlin Wolf albam in 63 , still have it and play it at 80. Wolf's soul is inbedded in anyone who loves the Blues.
This guy was absolutely brilliant: great songwriter, guitarist, singer and entertainer. I wish I was around in his time to hear him, Sonny Boy and Muddy Waters.
The man was somthin'else. Been enjoying his work for many decades. He has some work with another Great, muddy waters. 2 Greats.
And the great Willie Dixon who wrote most of those great songs.
This is the Blues Festival at Washington DC, November of 1970. Got it on dvd. Great show!

Top on my bucket list. Going to Howlin' Wolf's grave near Chicago. Leave a big bouquet of flowers on the grave, then spend the afternoon under a shade tree, drinking great single barrel bourbon, smoking a fine cigar, and playing his music all day on what used be called a boom box. Heaven, and a tribute to the greatest Blues singer of all time!

This is the first time I've seen this video but I've been a Wolf fan for ever it was hard during the hair band era to be a blues man but these old blues still linger and I'm so glad to hear my grandkids listening to Killing floor it may be a Slash, Brian Johnson and Steven Tyler cover but the grandkids are still hearing what the Wolf put down oh and the great great Hubert Sumlin too
It's just so good.. not sure what year were talking about here but the rhythm and vibe of it was so unique and ahead of it's time.. today's rock n roll wouldn't have ever existed if it wasn't for the blues pioneers like howling wolf
Really great! Thanks for posting. Keith Richards had a funny story about Howlin' Wolf picking him up and carrying KR back to his hotel, or someplace, after Richards left a party in Chicago and passed out on the doorstep.

I saw Chester Arthur Burnett live in November, '75 just a few months before he passed over.
He was monumental - he also set up retirements for his sidemen.

Not unfortunate at all they were keeping the song alive and reinventing it at the same. Love what Led Zeppelin did with the blues. They actually made it better by a mile.
@@wildrover9650 my response to Led Zeppelin’s Lemon Song was about plagiarism. They totally changed the face of rock and roll with their 1st album. They could have given credit where credit was due and they still would have reaped a healthy sum of money. They plagiarized several songs.
They absolutely made awesome covers and snippets but took all the glory for themselves.
The original sampling musicians before electronic samplers.
While Led Zep are my favorite rock band by far, still they should have given credit where it was due. A little payback for bring provided some building blocks.

Crap performance - worst live perf of Killing floor . The Wolf was obviously out of it & way way past his best - showing early signs of dementia - what a doggone shame when I remember his mastery & genius 30 yrs earlier!🤥🤥
But all the sheep will go on and on about how brilliant the performance is - even though it's a lazy, shambolic, half-assed mess. Howling Wolf had his day, but this really wasn't it. I mean, look at the band carrying him.
