Flawless tutorial. Beautifully explained and clear as anything. Anyone having issues with the gpi booting to black screen, or not working. It's due to the current version of retropi from their website being incompatible with these settings. Previous versions worked perfectly.
I’m having trouble running the amixer command to fix audio, it says it’s not found, how do I go about installing?
Thank you verry verry mutch!!!
I installed Retropie on the updateversion of the GPi Case, the GPi CASE 2
At first it wouldn't work (Emulation station woudn't start). But the newer version uses a Pi CM4 lite (with wifi) board. So I installed not the zero version of Retropie but the 4 series and now it works!!!
So thanks for your detailled instructions, it helped a lot!!
Greatings from Holland (in hopefully understandable English)
How do you like the GPi 2? Was thinking about getting it but I have several retro handhelds I already don't use enough. 😂😂
@@CyberCPU The screen is definitely an upgrade! much clearer and sharper. The build in battery is also much better than loose AA battery's. For what I can see with an old SD card everything is running wel, this evening a quicker one is delivered, I hope it is fast enough to play Nintendo DS games (with some tweaking of Retropie) and some extra cooling
@@LievenRobert I got the Piboy DMG and it is amazing. I never did a video on it though. However, it's a great system. It's sitting in my backyard in my current videos on a shelf. I may do a video on it one of these days.
I can't stress enough how much this was extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
Glad it helped.
Thank you so much! Everything worked on the first try.
Glad it helped.
Awesome video, thank you so much. I'm going to have to get another case to prep the SD card with since I went with a Zero (with microUSB to Ethernet cable) instead of a ZeroW but this is just the info I needed as it's a bit different from the normal Pi3/4 builds I do. Great job, especially with the theme recommendation and the sound tweak! Subscribed.
I highly recommend picking up a ZeroW. You will wish you did later on when you want to transfer roms. You can get them for $10. Totally worth it.
@@CyberCPU For most, wireless is going to be the best choice. I happened to just have this Zero laying around so I used it. So, this ended up being way simple because the GPi case has a micro USB port right there in the battery compartment so you can just plug in your usb to Ethernet adapter and plug it right in to your switch and you are good to go. That's definitely a good design choice!
I had recalbox up and running with my ROMset in no time flat and now I'm going to go grab a new SD card to use your instructions for a RetroPi setup.
I believe that micro USB port only works when the device is powered down. I'm kind of read a little bit on it but I've never actually used it myself.
@@CyberCPU Yeah, I read some conflicting information on it so I ended up just testing it out and it worked fine.
That dpad though ... I'm looking forward to see what you come up with there :)
I already modded the D-Pad. The new one works very nice. Here's the video. th-cam.com/video/7AsndAGZEp8/w-d-xo.html
Thanks and greetings from Germany! Your tutorial was very helpfull!
Wifi and SSH can be configured before and that can be accomplished before installation by using the key combo left cntl, left shift and x while in the Raspberry pi imager.
Good to know.
Thanks for the tip about ssh. I was going to install putty, personally not a fan when it comes to installing software that I use rarely.
Your welcome.
This guide is perfect! Thank you so much. Do you know if battery life is improved using a Pi Zero? Which Pi would you recommend for this project?
Not sure if battery life has improved. I didn't personally have any issue with the battery life.
The Pi zero is kind of a lightweight when it comes to retro gaming. However, it's all this device supports. I'm waiting on another handheld that supports the Pi 4 but it's on back order. Hopefully I'll have that video up in a couple months if it ever comes in.
this tutorial is gold, thank you so much sir
Ok you lost me at 19:24 after you added the snes you move the games into it were did you get the game from?
When I typed in the command to fix the volume, I got this response:" amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory " Im not sure what I did differently or what I missed. Hopefully someone might know or I can find it and bring it back here too.
I got this for the headphone section:
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Headphone',0
Maybe I can skip this? Or did I do something wrong?
hi. Great video!
just a typo in wpa supplicant file:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
notice the space before the word GROUP.
Cheers!
I have an issue with the command amixer sset Headphone 100% it does not work. I remember it working in the past. for some odd reason my copie got corrupted so I had to reflash to the newest version of retropi. Right now I have no audio and it says "on-board audio disabled or not present" can you help please?
i love your videos, do one on the gpi case 2 please!
I am having trouble running amixer. It gives error. To me too.
amazing video, where did you get the raspberry pi image flasher?
It's from the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
Here's a link.
www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-imager-imaging-utility/
What happens when mine says “game pad not detected”? What did I do wrong?
you have the choice of download the gpi case ready image on raspberry pi imager
Very true. I personally like doing my own setup but your right, their are presetup images.
Any guidance on setting up a pi zero (not pi zero W)? I have the pi zero, so no wifi capabilities. Cant seem to find anything online about setting up without wifi
I would recommend setting it up first with a keyboard, mouse and monitor before you install it into the case. That would be the easiest. However, a pi0 W is only $10. It might be worth just getting the wifi version.
@@CyberCPU I would, but i already have the pi zero and realistically im never going to need wifi again after i set it up and add my games. I have my pi and my case, i dont want to have to order one and wait for delivery, id like to just set it up now if possible. Are you aware of any online tutorials for setting it up with a keyboard, mouse and monitor?
I did a video setting on a pi 4. It should be the same process. The last thing you would do is install the drivers for the case.
The Wi-Fi actually does come in handy in the future. Doing updates and copying new games to the device.
@@CyberCPU Thanks for the help. Subscribed
"amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory"
where can i get a pre loaded sd card with the games for the pi zero
I don't know. However, it's probably going to be hard to find considering it software piracy.
Hi. I'm running into an issue where, once I flash my SD card, my PC doesn't see it anymore. I can't access the files. I am still able to use a partition tool to modify partitions, but my file explorer can't see the SD card at all, no matter how much I reboot my PC or reinsert the card. Does anyone know how I can get around this?
The main partition is a Linux file system. So you won't be able to see that partition in Windows. However you should be able to see the boot partition. That's where you're config files and things like that go.
@@CyberCPU thanks for the response. Unfortunately I'm not able to see anything at all on this SD card, not even the Boot partition
Have you tried to see if it will boot your Pi?
@@CyberCPU unfortunately I don't have the proper dongles to test that, but I did manage to make a basic Ubuntu bootable flash drive and I'm able to access everything just fine from there. Thanks for the support.
How do you do a configuration setup if your raspberry pi doesn’t have WiFi? I have a zero
You would have to set it up out of the device with a monitor and keyboard. However, I would highly recommend using one with wifi. They are only $10.
@@CyberCPU Darn okay thank you
I gave up on retro pi. The sound never worked on the gpi case 2.
did you fix it? it's an easy fix.
