Iván (the restaurant owner) didn't do a great job at explaining the difference between mezcal and tequila. Basically, tequila is a type of mezcal but it can only be produced with “agave azul,” THAT is the main difference.

Johnny Garcia Technically yes, Tequila has to be produced in Jalisco, but other mezcales can also be produced in Jalisco. The main difference is the type of agave used.

I've done tours about Tequila, mezcal in Oaxaca, coffee in Colombia and wine in France 😂 Also I'm from Sonora and here we have our own mezcal known as Bacanora, which is also made with a specific type of agave and in the town of Bacanora 👍

rafa reyna, there are many brands not available in Mexico, that are produced for exportation only. Many factors are taxation reasons. Now in days, many Artist, Celebrities are jumping into the bandwagon movement of collaborating with spirit brands, especially with agave spirits. If you live in Mexico, you should look for Lola Mezcal. This is a true pleasant Mezcal that respects the culture of smokiness, earthy flavors of minerals and agave.

My dad is from Oaxaca and we went there when my sister and I was in winter break, and we went to 2 places that my aunts call El Centro and El Zocalo, and there was a lot of people that were selling grasshoppers. They had mountains of them, to be honest I didn’t try them because I guess I felt bad 😂 there was also a lot of places that sold Mezcal. Oaxaca is a beautiful places and I’m really honored to be half Oaxacan ❤️
