Loved the Tonight performance, especially Jaejoong's falsetto. To answer your question, during the concert performance the fans were chanting TXVQ's full name Dong Bang Shin Ki.

Try My Love is one of my favorites -- they were so young! But it really hits in Junsu and Jaejoong's wheelhouse. They were also performing at a Japanese Soul music festival and they were definitly the only boy group and the youngest at the festival. They were trying to prove their singing ability in Japan.
Wake Me Tonight may have been the last Japanese single by JYJ. I don't think it had very many perfomances and they were essentially flying out each weekend to do these concerts.

Great reaction, as always! Really enjoyed! A couple of things since you were curious:
The thing about "Try my love" is that it was released on 2005, so you basically have minors singing about getting close and trying their love and putting your trust in them. Changmin was 16 at the time and Junsu was 17! The only legal one was Jaejoong, but still way too young to be singing any of that. Regardless of how awkward that feels almost 20 years later, I always loved this song: the rhythm and their vocals were amazing considering how young their voices were and how polished they sound with just one year of debut under their belts.
As for the choreos, other than the main singles, no other song had any choreo, until the concert tours that is, when they had to suddenly memorise new made-up choreo for 10+ songs from the album in less than a month, before the tour started. So yes, the choreos for all b-sides were not as impressive, were not supposed to be as demanding and they were learning them almost as the tour went on. Jaejoong said that he was the one who made the most mistakes in concerts and in "Try my love" you can see he struggled with the hat moves a lot, poor thing. Now, the vocals, he nailed them, as you would expect of him 😅
One last thing: "Wake me tonight" if I'm not mistaken, is JYJ's only Japanese single. They problably had plans to debut as JYJ in Japan after they were all released from the army, but due to Yoochun legal problems they never did. Jaejoong debuted in Japan alone as a solo singer and made a successful career there, but Junsu never went to Japan and neither did Yoochun. So "Wake me tonight" has a special place in my heart, as for 5 years I waited for JYJ to release anything in Japanese. Little did I know that "Wake me tonight" would be the only song I would get from them :( As for the choreo, not only is it a Japanese single so the choreo would have never been very impressive, but also Junsu was the only real dancer in JYJ. Jaejoong and Yoochun were not very good at it, JJ probably being the weakest dancer out of the five, so all of the JYJ choreos were rather simple, as JJ and Y would have to be able to do them and follow Junsu's pace. Without Yunho and even Changmin, JYJ just didn't have it in the dance department anymore. But they had vocals, so they managed to pull off their dance tracks as well :)
Also, with Junsu doing musicals all the time, one can totally hear his voice been exhausted in some of the JYJ concerts, sometimes even missing some high notes that he never would have missed before. But he still kept trying like the pro he is :)

They all have their own style in singing and dancing. No one is weakling in either singing or dancing my dear.. personally I enjoy all ballads more then dance mode. And I do like yoochun's dancing style which look so cool and manly. Everyone have their own favourite look. For instant all tvxq were all talented. changmin have lowest possiblities to lost his compose in most of dancing or singing. Junsu and yunho less mistake in dancing. Yoochun great at addlibs and is the one who always making suprizes on each performances.

Tonight was written especially for them 5 as a test - if they could sing this. So they didn't try to outdo each other, it was scripted for them to show their abilities. And I must say, they never try to outdo each other, their style always was to support and let shine each member at his solo point in song. Thats why their harmony was always the perfection no one can repeat.

Thank you as usual for your honest reaction. 💕 Always a pleasure to watch your channel.
The song Tonight is so nostalgic to me because it started my DBSK journey pretty much. Being an Exo fan all these years I was led to believe by SM that only Max & Yunho were good singers whereas coming across this song by accident opened my eyes and made me realise that the ENTIRE OT5 had outstanding vocalists (which is pretty much non-existent in k-pop these days). The harmonies here are to die for.
And thanks to your marathon I discovered some old DBSK gems which I never heard before so thank you to your diligent patrons for suggesting them!
And yes the song “Wake me Tonight” might not be memorable but ….Junsu’s shoulder shimmy is!! 😉

Since K-pop is so known internationally now and since every K-pop group debuts in Japan and does K-pop songs but in Japanese, it can be confusing watching TVXQ in their early days, slowly making it in the Japanese market. So I would say a couple of things to put everything more in context:
One thing you should always keep in mind is that Japan doesn't do flashy, complicated choreos. Even J-pop groups known for dancing and singing nowadays would have rather simplistic choreos compared to S. Korea. K-pop is a lot about the dances and the music videos and the outfits, and Japan is always lacking in those areas, simply because it was mandatory to always sing LIVE in Japan, there was no other option. To synch during a concert in Japan would have been like trying to pull off a scam, since people paid to watch them sing LIVE. Even TVXQ strugled with this when they debuted in Japan, as the policy in Korea was to lip- synch the heavy dance songs to make sure they danced and looked their best. When they got famous in Korea, SM made them debut in Japan and try to convert all their singles into Japanese and get the same reaction from the public. But it didn't work.
They actually had to developed a new style that was more in tune with the Japanese market. That included always singing LIVE, even the heaviest dance songs, even if they almost collapsed from the effort; changing the types of songs they released, doing happy mid-tempo summery songs, doing the Japanese type of choreo which was rather simplistic, doing MVs that were very simple and mostly consisted on close-up of their faces so you knew who was singing what, and even changing the way Jaejoong sang, as his voice like he sang in Korea was deemed not very suited for the Japanese market. So he changed his voice from his natural, maybe more rocky even growly sound, to his Tohoshinki voice, which is the one he got famous for, a very clear, clean voice; beautiful, though a little fabricated and therefore, not his most comfortable voice. He managed to sing the entire TVXQ Japanese discography using that voice as the main vocal, so he was really good at producing that sound. But it is interesting to note how much of TVXQ had to be changed in order for them to make it in Japan. They really were two different groups back then, with two very different discographies. In fact, majority of their famous songs were Tohoshinki songs (Japanese pronunciation of TVXQ) so Yunho and Changmin didn't sing them on their Killing Voice! So even though you've watched that, you still haven't heard their most iconic ballads. They would really need to do a Japanese Killing Voice :)

    Oh!! A tvxq marathon!!
Yea, you can definitely tell that the audio for million men wasn't live. Jjs mic being so low and far from his face gives it away right off the bat. Plus, you can always tell from the audio when it's too consistent and no breathing can be heard.

kpop groups don’t do the whole outsing and compete with each other thing that western groups do. the song was written that way. also it was typical of r&b of the late 90s/early 2000s to be over the top. now it’s considered cheesy but it wasn’t back then. i rly like tonight bc i’m a fan of good vocals. also try my love was def a more laidback b-side song that wasn’t meant to be the main standout of their concert. i think that bc they were so busy and went constantly back and forth between japan and korea they didn’t always have time to rehearse properly and always perform their best but as an acapella group they probably prioritized vocals above everything else
