hahhahah I figured my rankings would crush many hearts. They really are so hard to rank, since every single album is so damn good. Who would you put at 1?
@@A_Falling_Cow Made in Timeland took me a while, I recommend listening to it as background music while doing something that requires attention, it's pretty chill
Gracias por el vídeo. Estaba buscando algo que me guiara a introducirme en KGATLW. Realmente son fantásticos. Tu vídeo es magnífico y el mejor que hay sobre ellos. Saludos desde España.
Always interesting seeing people's rankings and what they gravitate to for Gizzard. My personal top 5 (at the moment) are Changes, Infest the Rats Nest, PetroDragonic, Sketches of Brunswick East and Ice Death.
Wow I’m surprised to see Changes and Sketch’s so high! But honestly all of their albums are top tier and everyone has a different opinion on their music :)
hey did you know that the narrator for Eyes Like the Sky is Ambrose’s dad? Broderick Smith was in the Australian boogie band Carson and gave songwriting advice to King Gizzard when they were starting out
Really enjoyed this video. I only discovered KGLW earlier this year after a friend recommended I listen to them when I go to the gym, and I’ve been fascinated (or obsessed?) with them ever since, just by their range of styles and how prolific they are. Also, as they’re from my hometown (Melbourne Australia), I also feel a certain amount of pride that someone overseas is taking such an interest in their music.
@@A_Falling_Cow I saw on their tour schedule they’re playing a lot of North American shows this year. Will you have a chance to see them live? I only discovered them earlier this year, so haven’t been to a concert yet because they’ve been playing overseas, but can’t wait to see them one day. The weird thing is, I’m 53 years old and haven’t been to a concert in over 20 years, but this band makes me feel like a teenage fan again! BTW, I’ve watched a few other album ranking videos on TH-cam, but your list is the one I most agree with.
I love the B3K pick and TSC pick! I would mostly agree with this list, besides a few you have shocking low (FMB, Quarters, Oddments) but overall pretty good.
Thanks! B3K really is one of my favorites it’s so lighthearted and relaxing. FMB is pretty damn good I just think the other albums in front of it were better :/ as for Quarters and Oddments I just couldn’t get into either of em as much as the others ahead of them unfortunately
It's so interesting being a fan of King Gizz because even though I might share a favorite band with someone, our tastes can still be completely different. Here are my rankings by category; too many are interchangeable in their categories for me to do a straight list. (Also, I still haven't sat down and listened to all of Eyes Like the Sky. Lastly, I would put Le Risque in the Good category, but we'll see how the whole new album shapes up.) Favorites -Oddments (As a fan of lo-fi indie, this was the album that convinced me I had a new favorite band. I also adore the album cover.) -Petro -Polygondwanaland -Infest the Rat's Nest -I'm in your Mind Fuzz -K.G./L.W. Greats -Nonagon Infinity -Quarters! (It's grown on me, though track 2 is tedious. I actually like the last two songs more than The River now.) -Float Along, Fill Your Lungs -Flying Microtonal Banana -Changes (One of their most cohesive and on-point albums. I ironically don't like Change that much, though.) -Paper Mache Dream Balloon -Butterfly 3000 -Ice Death Goods -Laminated Denim (Both songs are great, I just need more than two tracks to compete with the others) -Murder of the Universe -Fishing for Fishies -Willoughby's Beach -12 Bar Bruise Meh -The Silver Cord (Theia and The Silver Cord are great, but the rest is forgettable for me. Ironically some of the most poetic lyrics the band has produced, though.) -Sketches of Brunswick East (I don't like Stu's chill vocal fry on this album.) -Omnium Gatherum (The more I listen to it, the less I like it, unfortunately.) -Made In Timeland (I've listened to this album several times and I still can't remember what the two songs sound like) Dislike -Gumboot Soup (The only album by King Gizz I actively dislike. Beginner's Luck is okay, but everything past that does nothing for me.)
I’m loving the list! I would 1000% recommend listening to the extended edition of The Silver Cord it’s insane! Sketches is definitely hit or miss I feel like with a lot of fans
@@A_Falling_Cow I probably was a bit too harsh on Sketches here. I would put it more in the good category on second thought. As for the extended cuts of The Silver Cord, I really only liked Theia's longer cut. The extended cuts mostly felt too sparse to me, I don't know. Butterfly 3000 is their superior electronic album in my eyes. But my opinions shift over time, so we'll see.
I don’t know what it is about gumboot soup that I like so much. Maybe that all the songs feel so gizz-y to me. Admittedly they aren’t all super memorable so it’s not my favorite but they are all a great listen.
I go on long walks all the time and listen to KGLW albums on headphones outside in nature. I usually listen to at least three albums per walk. I base my top ten on albums with the least amount of skippable songs, how they flow and my personal music background and experience. It's always changing but here are my current top ten: 1. Ice Death 2. Butterfly 3K 3. Polygon 4. Sketches 5. LW 6. PDA 7. Nonagon 8. Laminated Denim 9. B471 10. Fishies
Gaia is on Omnium Gatherum not Gumboat Soup. Infinite Rise is the only dud on Quarters not Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer which is a super smokey chill jam. Appreciate the love for The Silver Cord. It is an amazing album. Solid list though for sure. Nice job
Polygondwanaland is hard to wrap your head around initially. I had the same problem. It's because of the polyrhythms. Takes your brain a while to adjust to them.
Fun Fact: Made in Timeland was supposed to be filler for their show at Timeland Festival. Covid happened, Timeland cancelled, and they had this music sitting around, so they refined it and released it!
I never really gave Pleura much of a chance till I listened to all the albums again before making the video. I really loved how One flowed right into it. Another sleeper on that album is Ataraxia!
Of course! I’ll make a video about where’d I place it after it’s released, I’ll probably also do a video just reacting to the songs for the first time too!
I personally think 12 Bar Bruise is incredibly underrated but I get its a pretty sonically abrasive and unrefined. It’s not for everybody. I’m probably one of the few people that thinks Willoughby's Beach is among their best releases too. Eyes Like The Sky is far and away their weakest album imo. It’s just such a chore to sit through for me.
Should have included Teenage Gizz too, but nice video, even if many choices obliterate my heart
hahhahah I figured my rankings would crush many hearts. They really are so hard to rank, since every single album is so damn good. Who would you put at 1?
@@A_Falling_Cow not even sure, to be honest. I think your top choices were pretty solid, but imo Made In Timeland and Laminated Denim should be higher
@@avelhabolachudahonestly I just couldn’t get into either of them which is a major bummer.
