- A bit of a different video - sharing some thoughts that have been swirling in my head since I graduated a few weeks ago. These are some of the most important lessons I learnt at design school that I think are applicable to everyday life. Let me know what you think!

Autistic? Amazing. I had an affinity for your channel from first view and now I know why. I can so relate. I don't know that I am on the spectrum, but my adult son (37) is and I can relate to him SO MUCH. We just get each other, without words. He's so wonderful, so brilliant, and views the world in an expanded way that not too many people understand, but I do. What a blessing!
Thanks for this comment. I've been waiting until I had time to respond with enough attention. Self diagnosis is perfectly valid in the Autistic community so if you feel it's a fit for you then embrace it! My life has only improved since I started to accept and embrace that I'm autistic. What a special connection to have with your son - I'm sure he appreciates it too.
I've similar to you regards to connecting 2 people. I can connect great via TH-cam, but in person, I am not so much a connect type person.😊

One of the things I've found is that it's hard to meet people who are on your wavelength when you're a bit shy, find big social events tricky, and are soft spoken and/or a slow audio processor... I happened to find a housemate through a queer housing group who seems to go at the same speed as me and it's been key to my mental health improving. My partner is also really important obviously, but they thrive on being busy and living a life that I just can't (and dont need to) keep up with! I've really found talking to other disabled people keeps me grounded - other people live lives like mine!

Hi Steph. Love your dress and your wisdom. My motto ... Never ever give up. My first husband passed away when I was 48. I then changed my life. Did a three year Diploma course at 51 and at 55 started University and qualified as an Educater at 59. Retired at 65 and changed career again and finally retired at 69. At present I have a small business from home as a seamstress. Life is a journey of challenges and choices ... live it to the fullest.

I grew up in Launceston decades ago now (oof) and first of all let me say thank you for calling the state Lutruwita/Tasmania. It fills me with joy to see Indigenous culture in Tasmania acknowledged and respected. Definitely not much of that happening in the 80s. What a lovely video format, really nice to hear you talk about the wisdom you've grown into while getting to follow along on your holiday. The older I get the most crucial one thing I know about design/art is that you must make the thing that only YOU can make.
Thanks for the tip - I certainly agree. And yes, there is still so much truth that needs telling in this simultaneously very, very old and really rather young place.
Lovely video. As a 76-year old, I have to agree totally with these lessons that you talk about. And (assuming you have reasonable health) the learning never needs to end. I hope that you will soon find a new job which will suit you better.
The Temp is way to cold for me to get in a swimsuit and get into 61 degree water brrrr shivering! You have such a calming soul.
I love your honesty. Ive also struggled with many of the concerns you have and at 70 years of age finally understand why. Like you, I have also learned that learning and unlearning takes time. I have reinvented myself several times over. The best part was when I felt confident to reeducate myself and I went to uni in my 40's then spent 20 plus years in a career that I loved. I did have challenges and knew when to remove myself from specific roles and get jobs doing what I loved but in different organisations. I wish you all the best. I chose to see every change in my life as an adventure, a challenge, and an opportunity to achieve at a different level. I know you will get a wonderful job and continue your adventurous life.
