If the seller from amazon is excalibur or a liscensed reseller your extended warranty will be valid. Here is what I found on their website: FACTORY DIRECT DEHYDRATOR 10 Year Extended Warranty on 110 volt US/Canada models 3500, 3900, 3526T, 3926T, 3548CDB, 3948CDB, D500, D900, RES10, & EXC10EL. This warranty is available only on New Food Dehydrators purchased directly from EXCALIBUR, by AUTHORIZED EXCALIBUR RETAILER or by purchasing an extension of your five year warranty. You have to set a timer in order for it to run. You can set the timer for up to 48 hrs. I usually set it for an amount of time that is more than I think I need. I check the food throughout the drying process and if I'm running it overnight I check the food before bed to see how 'done' it is. I then make sure to increase the timer so that it doesn't stop when I am sleeping.
