    Always good to see another player on the block. I recently purchased their Apollo colour camera with global shutter for solar imaging, a mate for my ZWO mono camera with the same detector and global shutter. A twin setup for white light and Ha. Waiting for clear skies during another La Niña weather pattern. Greetings from Tasmania Australia 😁😁🔭🇦🇺🦘

    What a fantastic piece of kit Luke !! Quality of the camera looks outstanding and they've gone the extra mile with included accessories ! Hopefully at some point you get to test out the mono version too ? Unfortunately I'm tied into zwo with their asi air plus system but if I was starting from scratch I'd give this camera some serious consideration. Good to see you're now getting the opportunity to do product reviews which will definitely help grow the channel 👍

    6:43 with this type of thing making the case robust is pretty easy from a manufacturing standpoint, the part that looks to be the hardest/most expensive is whatever sensor they shoved in it.

      That's superb to hear mate! I think you'll be very happy :-) I'm really enjoying mine and I know player one are hard at work with furthering the drivers too 👍
      I have a little tip until the drivers are updated - run the camera with the 'low noise' mode tickbox selected in the ascom driver -
      If you leave it unticked/in normal mode it occasionally reads a brighter band at the top of an exposure.
      Player one are aware of the issue and working on it though! 👍

    Looks a nice bit of kit Luke hopefully the native drivers issues will get resolved soon. My only issue would be the lack of a powered hub on the rear for a focuser etc unless the Player one's filter wheels focusers can just all be linked together to camera of course. Nice to see decent cables included to as most companies seem to use hard PVC cables which only get worse the colder they get. The filter drawer looks impressive especially when it's closed as the overlap should help with any light leakage.
    Look forward to seeing the first light clear skies mate.

      Hey Alex! Thanks for the question and sorry about the late reply mate,
      I did not get hit with customs charges, I believe this is because it's a product sent for review rather than a sale of goods in my case.
      I'd expect the usual 20% vat and then a possible import tariff calculable based on item type, probably coming under 'astronomy accessory' - can't see it being much but all in I reckon the price will approach/match the 2600mc pro from zwo at a guess.
      Hope that helps!

    I received Poseidon-M and found a tricky problem with ASCOM driver when using NINA. When there's intermediate job between two exposures(dither, focusing, change filter) next exposure just starts in background ignoring settling delay. And then it stops with settling finish and the next exposure starts. It gives you star-trailed image after dithering, some 7 sec exposured frame with 300s exposure in fits header meta data etc.
    Native driver works well with exposure control, but cannot use cooling feature.
    Native driver cannot control cooling/warming. ASCOM driver has exposure control issue. But luckily, NINA supports multiple instance and two instance can control same camera device.
    So the answer to this problem is... (That works)

    Hi Luke Thanks for the upload. I have a question that's been puzzling me, hopefully you or someone reading could help answer this for me please.
    The back of the camera is 17.5mm. The two adapters in your unboxing add 37.5mm = 55mm. All good.
    But I notice on the Player 1 filetr drawer that its length is 21mm, which would give 1mm too much back focus if used with the camera and the 17.5mm adapter. I believe back focus is critical on the RASA (I have the RASA 11)
    You would think that they would take account of this and supply a 16.5mm adapter with the filter drawer but they don't, it's 17.5mm.
    So am I missing something here? (I probably am) It seems as though if one uses the filter drawer, length 21mm, that unless one goes out and purchases a 16.5mm adapter that one will be 1mm over the back focus of 55mm.
    Thanks for any help you can give with this.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey mate! Good question, it may be because when you use a filter drawer you will add extra glass into the optical path from whatever filter you use in it, pushing back the back focal distance a little (usually 1/3rd the thickness of the glass that is added)
      Hope that helps!

    Your review is quite helpful! I am looking to replace my Atik Horizon II and this camera seems ideal. I have a C11 with Hyperstar and the Starizona filter drawer system. May I ask which Starizona adapter you used to connect the Poseidon to Hyperstar?
    Cheers,

      That might work. With my Horizon II camera I had to get the Atik Series 4 adapter to use it with Hyperstar. I think the camera will screw onto the filter drawer but I'm wondering if there is a correct adapter to go with the filter drawer for back focus etc.@@lukomatico

    I'm gonna be criticizing if you don't mind.
    It looks heavy, is it heavier than a regular ZWO or QHY camera of same caliber?
    I wish cameras would be getting lighter instead.
    Heavier cameras + filter wheel and other stuff puts a lot of strain on the focusers. There are a lot of scopes out there with questionable focuser quality. Almost like a standard procedure for many:
    1. Buy a telescope for $1000
    2. Immediately replace the focuser $500+

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Frank! I hear what you're saying mate for sure, there's definitely a lot of poor focusers out there 👍
      I'd say it's likely slightly heavier than the competition, but not dramatically so - maybe 150 grams more at a guess?
      It's probably overall lighter though than a camera without a tilt plate and then adding an aftermarket one on top, so that's also worth consideration! :-)
      Hope that helps!

    Hiya Luke . Nice catch with the Software Drivers . That should be an easy one to sort out and it just might be a NINA thing too . Time will tell . Question...what is the actual colour of the camera ? At the beginning of the video it looked pale orange then it went slightly coppery then the Ads had a light red colour . Probably your video camera or You-tube shifting the colours a bit . The Player One Web Site shows red . Not important . Cheers/SRK

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Josh! - I think it's a good deal, but how useful the ACS is would depend on your climate somewhat, your average ambient temperatures while imaging etc - it's not got a thermoelectric cooling element so it can reach ambient temp but not go below it 👍

    Hey Luke! Thanks for the video! I recently bought a RASA 8 so just seeing how cutting edge the design for this camera is in regards to using USB-C and the tilter having the adjustments on the side which would make it easier to tilt on the RASA, I will be following this product closely. I do have a few concerns though, the first being the weight. My setup consists of a RASA 8, ZWO ASI2600MC Pro, Celestron focus motor and HEM27 so the weight is a little over 9kg which is about half of the 20kg payload capacity which is optimal for astrophotography. With that being said, every gram counts on my setup so I would be concerned about a camera with the same chip that weighs more. The other concern quality of the spacers included with the camera and filter drawer as they have no matting on the inside and are shiny! Even ZWO's spacers that come with their cameras are matted. I mean personally now I don't need to use them but shiny extensions make the whole kit feel cheap so they may want to spend the extra dime on matted adapters.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David! Congratulations on the RASA mate, I've been blown away by mine!
      Thanks for the feedback there by the way, I appreciate having other people's points of view to reference from! -
      Re: the weight, I may be mistaken but at a guess I'd say it's probably 100-150g heavier than the 2600 - admittedly this is just a guess and I'd have to weigh both to find out for sure! It sure feels hefty though, which is reassuring from a quality standpoint, but potentially worth consideration if you're already near the upper limits of mount capacity 👍
      Re: the spacer rings, they feel high quality in the hand but I think you're right, potentially a matte inside coating would be best overall? I'll pass it on to Player One for them to consider!
      Thanks so much for the great comment mate 👍
