  • Sometimes, some ICE 3's motor bogies do not work, but I met with this case...
    Enjoy the great accelerating sound!!

The Velaro D is possibly one of the loudest high speeders I had ever heard

The no motor sound is due to the dynamic braking which does not work at very low speed

I believe it's not correct. The switching between electrical systems affects the current path to the main transformer of which each train half has one.
Apparently, these parts of the train were not designed as robust as required for the very frequent power source switching that is common in international travel.
The BR 406 is known for this problem, so it's quite common to see the traction equipment of one half of the train to fail, and that's why you can't hear anything.
Actually, BR403/406 has traction inverters that, independant from requested torque (even if 0), continuously operate.
This issue is the reason why DB currently does not plan to extend the lifespan of BR406 and instead will replace it with BR408 units (thus the sudden order of 30 train sets).
BR403 may last beyond 2030, but the future of BR406 is not certain at this point. Maybe we will see BR406 being exclusively used within german borders, or we may see this class being sold to some other party, which might make things more interesting for other rail companies wishing to operate on the Cologne-Rhine-Main route that requires trains that have a large amount of powered mass (for this class, it's about 50% btw.).

@@telefondose2803 Spain could very well buy them, update the transformer and run them into France. Spain has ICE3's too (Renfe S103).

Yea basically. The CHR3 is a further developed version of the german ICE 3 train (class403)
It's part of the Simens Velaro Program. Intern at Simens it's called Velaro CN (CN for China).
