Hi guys my name is George and this is my 110th TH-cam video! Today I had the task of orienting and precepting and nursing student! I am not want to “eat my young!” But sometimes you get a nursing student who is… Subpar! I understand we all have to learn from the beginning. And trust me, I am still learning myself! But some nursing students just don’t take an initiative. And I can make for a very, very, very long shift! When I was in nursing school, I had some really bad preceptors. So I always aim to be a good preceptor myself! Let’s see if this nursing student was worth my time and energy! Are you ready for it, HUNNI?

Im a nursing student in my 3rd/4th semester. The best nurses I’ve been assigned to work with were the ones who were kind and willing to have patience with me. I feel like nurses forget they were once there and can be cruel. I was a an emergency room tech for 13 years and saw so many baby nurses be thrown to the wolves. I really hope when I’m a graduate nurse the nurses who precept me give me time and grace to grow into a good provider.

Yes, I love your reflection! I remember feeling like I was… “almost an annoyance” to this one nurse I followed during my ICU nursing school rotation. She was this probably mid 30s or late 20s nurse and she just seemed so indifferent when she found out we were paired together. 🤣😅 but she warmed up to me. I think I always try to just be me when I precept. However, it can be hard to precept a nursing student who seems like they would rather be somewhere else, does not want to learn, and has no intention of paying attention; which I’ve had to precept those types of nursing students before! But I love precepting nursing students who simply want to be there and learn!
