It never occurred to me that trying to built a 7-Eleven in your own home could bring up so many challenges and legal issues. It truly exemplifies how even the most fun and harmless trends can get complicated.
Well, firstly I'd assume the TH-camrs are more using the assets to make a "themed pantry" more than anything lol, and using *even* commercially-licensed assets *is* legal SO LONG as it ISN'T an actual commercial business. On the other hand, can you imagine how much legal trouble a company could get in if just ANYBODY could brand their name and run an extremely dangerous store with zero legitimate certification or inspection?? No way 7-11, and more importantly, the law would stand for it. For safety concerns are genuine concerns, and the customers of the convenience store have an expectation, and arguably right, to a safe experience!
I actually grew up in Ohio, where some of the older houses have actual secret rooms due to the state historically being an important part of the Underground Railroad. Secret rooms are certainly cool but not nearly as much as the movies tell you. Less "Batcave" and more "cupboard under the stairs."

There's a few other requirements Santi forgot here. Pretty much all 7-11s sell at least beer, so, in addition to the food service liscence, you also need a liquor liscence. You also forgot wheelchair accessability.
They don't in Australia, but the Australian chain just got bought by the Japanese arm (who own the American arm anyway?), who promised to make it more like the Japanese 7/11s. SO maybe they will someday
That’s actually a franchise option not a 7/11 requirement , it has to do with the location and if there are any popular alcohol stores nearby to gauge how well it sells, and some states don’t allow the sale of alcohol outside of beer to happen in the same area as food or even 24/7 like 7/11 is open
In my state if your too close to an existing liquor store you can't sell beer. When I actually worked at a 7-Eleven the restrictions was even worse we could only sell 3.2%beer from noon to midnight, it's pretty hilarious when people came in and actually bought beer from us, we would ask them you know that this isn't full alcohol beer right? Some people still bought it. The sober ones would ask us questions, and we will point them to the liquor store across the street.
That is most likely a variable requirement. Liquor licenses can vary from easy, to nearly impossible to obtain. There are still dry counties in the US. Wheelchair accessibility is purely up to very local ordinances. The vast majority of US municipalities wouldn't want to be the one who says "no- you may not make your home ADA accessible.... Zoning laws was literally the first thing that came to my mind when you started throwing this 7-11 idea in our faces. Maybe because where I live zoning is a bigger deal but like? LITERALLY the first thing.
The emergency exits also help for the people in the far back of the store. Too far away from the entrance to escape quickly. And so the heavy flow of people running out the doors is lessened. It's something I learned in my safety classes about why there are exit doors and emergency stair cases. Also, when someone pushes on that door it should send an alert to 911, so help can arrive faster
1:45 Alright, here's where basically zi stopped and came up with *my* theory for how this is going to go. In The Philippines, there are convenience stores called sari-sari stores, which operate out of someone's home. If you could run a 7/11 like you do a sari-sari store, maybe it could work.
Originally, "7/11l" referred to the fact it was open from 7 AM to 11 PM, which was to reflect the extended hours of a company originally called "Tote'M Store". Back in 1946, in Texas where the chain started, that was as good as saying you were open 24 hours a day seven days a week, because who would be up after 11 o'clock at night or before 7 o'clock in the morning? I worked in a 7/11 in the mid 1970s while going to college, back when they first switched to a 24 hour shift. Because I've always been a night owl, I worked the graveyard shift.

You could apply for a "Planned Unit Development" with your city. These are incredibly flexible zoning plans because they don't fit the mold of normal zones, but they DO have to fit a very specific plan developed with the city. The pros are that you can do crazy things like opening a business out of your home, with the cons being that you can only do exactly what you agreed upon with the city. The city is protected because the plan only applies to the original applicants, so you can't rezone the area in question and then sell it to a business that wasn't approved. Planning Commissions love these sorts of projects because it gives the city more control and less risks than standard zoning standards, but they're also great for communities looking to do something wild. In my city, one of the local private colleges entered into a PUD of mixed use residential, commercial, and recreational areas, open to the public but also housing a couple of student dorms on top of local businesses (literally, one dorm is on top of a Purple Cow diner and a small bank).

Why is it always 7/11, though? Why not a better place like QuikTrip? Fun Fact: there are no 7/11s in my city (Tulsa, Oklahoma) because QuikTrip is headquartered here and made an agreement with 7/11 that 7/11 could have Oklahoma City if they stay out of Tulsa. Come on you guys that's not too difficult to catch
*SHOE CLOEST* 😤💅
4:28 "Irregardless" isn't a word. You meant to say "regardless" as in "this is without regard to the prior subject" lol
Bro ur telling 5.38 million people about a secret well then it’s not a secret anymore
Bro I love the 4 successor to Matpat.
Santi already got infected with Matpat's Locura
Why are there so many bots 💀
I wish I had the money to do a secret room that exquisite
1:14 is literally omega mart
FR
Santi, you had me until "Irregardless".
3:07 What did you do to me Santi why? Why why!!!!!!!! A A,AAAAAAA A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A,A A, A,AA I’ve done this all using the voice recorder thingy, so yes, I have just been saying capital A a bunch of times
4:00 so what you're saying is, Food Theory needs to ACTUALLY fill out the franchisee application and get approved. For science...
5:23 gordon freeman gaming
Welp, that just ruined my career. I can't make any more 7/11s
2:56 There are times where listening to your wife is very important. This…. was not one of those times.
Santi has officially gained my approval, he's just as insane as matpat.
WHY IS IT ELEVEn
its the 1960's wimpy crybaby spoiled wife gets all upset as usual because all caps is too aGgReSsIvE husband forced by wife to change name
Apparently a second reason for the lowercase "n" is to get people talking more about 7/11. I do see the business sense in that
Thank goodness. I was dying of boredom before I got this notification.
I'm sorry so many bots are an this comment. By the time you see this, they will be gone.
I see the mat in them more and more every theory
Mr beast ahh thumbnail
Imagine being the next door neighbor to Santi and just having a 7/11 next store would be awesome 😭
Of course if he did do this
Today's Fact: In 2017, a man in Texas successfully delivered his own baby on the side of the highway, with only the help of 911 dispatchers on the phone.
7-eleven stores are so rare in the USA.
I would love it if something like this was possible in my area.
I doubt it will ever happen though.
2:02 in the US , i live in europe and never seen a 7-11
Its bigger in japan
I have a feeling santi is beginning to become a vlog ytber
Who misses Matpat?😭😭😭😭😭😭
Santi, I beg you make an episode on space dunk oreos, possibly about how it could be a scam, as it claims to send you to space. Also, you could make an episode about redoing the most controversial food theories that matpat made. Comment, like, call me a bot, do whatever you want but please make this popular before space dunk oreos go down, and Santi I want Santi to see this comment.
okay
get tons of likes
and be top
pls
Why is it always 7/11, though? Why not a better place like QuikTrip? Fun Fact: there are no 7/11s in my city (Tulsa, Oklahoma) because QuikTrip is headquartered here and made an agreement with 7/11 that 7/11 could have Oklahoma City if they stay out of Tulsa. We also have Kum & Go which is also better than 7/11 and is the only place I know of that sells FlexFuel (E-85) gas, which is way cheaper than normal gas.
Qt mart is just weird. It only recently came to Central Texas.
@@asrr62 Why do you think it is "weird"? QT is the best gas station/convenience store I've ever been to!
+clickbate
