    Well done to you and Andy. That's a fairly big job for 2 guys and to be doing it all between you. Least you don't need to worry about other trades letting you down. Fair play to you 👍👍

    That loft is starting to look good guys , you should consider doing lofts full time as there's a lot more money to be made than being a sparky and you and Andy make a good team.....cheers. 👍

    First one i ever did with my boss he wanted two of us to carry 3m steels up onto the third floor. Told him to do one, he got them craned in. When we got up there he couldn't move it, I pissed myself laughing so i moved it. Being tight breaks backs! Sterling work lads

    Hi Chris
    Cracking video mate that’s a really great use of what normally would be wasted space in a trussed roof, cant wait to see the end results crack on!!
    Super tip use roll and stroll carpet protector looks good to the customer as no dust can get through the poly sheet and it’s much safer than dust sheets

    I was set to purchase a house recently and in the house survey they requested a structural engineer to examine the house because they identified that the support beams had been cut. When the structural engineer examined it they recommended that new support beams were needed and potentially floor joists strengthened. Would that mean that they would make that same recommendations for ANY loft conversion or might it be different depending on how exactly the loft conversion is constructed?

    The gangnail trusses not only hold up the roof they also support the ceilings so unless ceilings are temporarily propped below, cutting the longer diagonal sections shouldn't be done until the new floor is in to re support the ceiling part of the truss at similar positions to the gangnail plates, especially as you're working off them.

  • @Jay-jl7by

    Good job. Im starting a conversion this week. Was there any reason that the dwarf walls wernt put in with double top plates fixed to birdsmouth on underside of rafters? I would prefer to do it your way or even run past and bolted. Is this an accepted method with building control? I thought load bearing walls had to be double top plate on birdsmouth?

    • @adreenryan2901
      @adreenryan2901 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the way it should been done at 300mm centre with double plate 4 x2 so your right .if I were you do it your way there is a bit more work but it would be better.

    How do you go about getting liability insurance as an electrician to complete fairly involved carpentry work? My insurance has always stated you have to be able to demonstrate competence to be covered.

    • @Cjrelectrical
      @Cjrelectrical  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All my work is backed up by a structural engineer and I’m insured for all types of building work.

    • @chrisb4009
      @chrisb4009 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      CJR ELECTRICAL I’ve seen plenty of policies that will insure me to do anything but when you read the policy wording it states you have to be competent to do the work. I could for example take out a policy for competing gas work but if I burn a house down not being gas safe they would quite reasonably walk away from any claim.

    • @Cjrelectrical
      @Cjrelectrical  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You comparing carpentry to gas safe is completely different 99% of the carpenters I work with don’t have an NVQ but they are 100 times better than any young carpenter with an NVQ they are competent because they are experienced exactly like me.
      All my work that I do is signed off by building control.
      What more can I say to you?

  • @yrification

    Looks good. I’ve got a similar loft space and I didn’t think you could convert it tbh because of the layout of the timbers. What dimensions is that roof space if you don’t me asking ? I’d like to look into this myself.

    • @Cjrelectrical

    Isn't there supposed to be another support at the top angle to divert the load across the roof?

    • @Cjrelectrical
      @Cjrelectrical  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends what design or what the structural engineer wants, in this instance our mitred ends and a truss collar tie is sufficient for the roof loading and pitch
