“If the truth is inconvenient they don’t believe is true”.. I can totally relate.
I was assaulted when I was 13 and when I finally got a courage to tell an adult, she said “are you sure that was what happened? Maybe he didn’t mean to touch you that way, maybe you were misunderstood...”
Days and even months after the incident, I kept asking myself what did i do wrong? Did I dress provocatively that day? Did I somehow send him a wrong signal?
My grades were dropped significantly that semester, my parents mad at me because I did so bad at school, I got nervous all the time when I’m around male adults beside my dad, and of course I got depressed.
It took me a whole year to recover and it took me even longer to finally forgive myself and convinced myself that it wasn’t my fault.
Now that I’m an adult, I tell my little niece to always tell me if somebody did something uncomfortable to her or touch her inappropriately and I swear myself that I’d never doubt her.
Little girls don’t lie about this thing and yes, sexual assault is something that people don’t get over with easily, I hope that everyone, especially law enforcers, realizes this and work harder to prevent this bad thing happen to anyone..
    Good job, Netflix!

    • @nameless953
      @nameless953 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@HWForRealzzzz I don't know why they do it there 😅 don't know what you have to do that netflix is promoting a series lot. Selena gomez is involved in the production so maybe it's a "bigger think", don't know how much money they spending for promoting. And 13 reasons why was an popular book first, so maybe it was "worth it" to promote it a lot, cause people loved the books and were really hyped to see a series and maybe it is not that "sensitive" like unbelievable. I mean don't get me wrong (mental illness is also a big topic in my life so of course it is sensitiv for me but if I compare just the trailer I think that unbelievable was little bit "harder" to watch)
By the way I also don't get why people were shocked because of 13 reasons why... That sounds really strange now but it was really unrealistic and people could not learn "how to suicide" because it was just stupid (say it again it is also a big topic in my life and I know what it mean when someone is losing a person because of suicide). And I guess I get more triggered when I hear that a person (like an vip) killed themselves then watching 13 reasons why. But to watch unbelievable for me is really disgusting (also the raping scenes in 13 reasons why were lot harder to see then the suicide scene and I guess it was because it was so unrealistic)

Paintedgamer You obviously are ignorant to the statistics of how many rapes are false accusations or not. A man is more likely to be raped then a woman is likely to falsely accuse a man of rape. That’s a VERY small percentage. And even then, if a woman only decides to stop the investigation due to harassment or pressure placed upon her by the aggressor or even the public, it’s considered a “false accusation”, even though she was in fact raped. So please stop spreading false information, it’s spreads like wildfire to stupid people.

I fully agree with you about the detectives, BUT I also recognize the tough truth that in many cases, officers who make mistakes like that and recognize they messed up are less likely to make mistakes like that in the future. Letting officers learn from these mistakes can help these people to be better officers in the long run. As they say, people learn from making mistakes. That's a tough pill to swallow when it comes to police officers, but it's important to do so. I'd rather have police officers working in my community who have made mistakes and learned from them, as opposed to officers who have yet to make those mistakes.

I mean they only need a little help and support, they want someone to believe them that yes this shit happened with me and I can’t lie about it. Human in general need to show compassion, love, generosity. The fact Maria had to recollect the event again and again a million times to the officers made me mad. I think it's absolutely possible that it happend the way it was shown. Just think of how much pain she must have been through. Not only because of the rape but with all the other abuse in her past. I think you can literally see her giving up on trying to tell the truth, cause nobody seems to care about what she says. She's never been taken seriously, even when she opend up about the worst thing ever happened to her. Just trying to imagine what it must feel like to tell so many strangers about being raped, about being touched without having agreed to it..it terrifies me. She has to do this over and over again without somebody actually asking her how she is feeling or what she needs. Nobody really stood by her side the way that she needed it and then she even gets accused of lying. I think I would have reacted quite the same as she did. She just lost hope in people, like she said it in the end.

Catriona Nightingale She had so many friends and mentors with her that opened up and cared, that was the whole reason why her friends started to become negative towards her. She had a lot of backup and bestfriends showing support. The series doesn’t show how it actually would of happen. The officers could of mislead her with questions, but in todays society it doesn’t happen that a grown man in uniform is basically screaming and is accusing a little girl of lying... I mean think about that, no one is ever gonna do that in reality. An officer asked the weong questions at the wrong time and she got confused and wanted out so she said what the department wanted just so she could get home and breath

Catriona Nightingale The thing is that she has so many oppurtunities to change what she did wrong. There is media evidence that a serial rapist is out there and she has a lawyer, it is just stupid to not tell her lawyer that was so friendly that the officers put words in her mouth. No one would ever risk getting jail time for protecting a secret that isn’t even a secret. With her withdrawing that statement she was just treated like shit by everyone, her friends/family. It is just so unrealistic avout that. It is human nature to survive and not be locked in a cage like an animal, and she risks it because of what? No reason at all. It just makes me mad that they did such a bad job on that part

because we should always believe the woman, even if theres no evidence backing the claim.
Now, netflix make a movie about a woman blaming a man for raping her when it just turns out shes psychotic... something tells me that movie wont get made... doesnt fit netflix's agenda

My appreciation goes to the writer, director, actresses and all involved. My heart goes out to any victim. My prayers go out to those in recovery. My thanks goes out to those who stand on the frontline to help.

  • @elizabethpodest2759

This made me cry several times while watching.. this happened to me. I was not believed and I am not sure if the rape itself caused the waves of self destruction that followed the assault or the fact that I was not believed. This show is so accurate on the aftermath of rape and the repercussions of not being believed. I still have to see my rapist every two weeks and pass my children off to him. After raping me my ex husband threatened to sue me. He told police that I had mental problems. After being raped I was sat in a room with a private investigator who told me I would lose custody of my children if I didnt say something "truthful", I was scared, scarred and wanted it to be over so I told them maybe I was mistaken, that wasnt good enough so the investigator walked me through how I hated men and his client didnt rape me. The threat of losing my kids and the threat of him NOT being found guilty then having the ability to SUE me caused me to say whatever they wanted to get me out of that room. Then after signing the papers my ex had me. He groped me, grabbed me, and fondled me at every custody exchange hanging it over my head that he could sue me and have me thrown in jail... finally I was able to get an assault on video and got a protection order. But still every two weeks, there I am taking his sexual advances while trying to pass my children off to a rapist.

The family members in the story is not a spoiler because just about everyone is going to have a family member or therapist or someone involved in a case like this. She/he didn't say exactly how things turned out and the trailer makes it very clear what the story is about how Marie wasnt believed even though it was true. There is so much more to this story that had this person really wanted to spoil it for people could have mentioned but they didn't they just stuck to the stuff mentioned in this preview. And also could you imagine reporting a rape case and they caught the perpetrator YEARS later, imagine thinking that someone who hurt so badly still walking free, most of the victim try so hard to "let go" the incident but again it would never go away. The young girl sooo believable in her portrayal of hurt and social disassociation, fractured spirit and distrust for the very systems and peoples *paid to ensure her safety and well-being. I LOVED this story and would love to see if continue (mirroring HBO’s True Detective series). The writing, acting, directing...all spectacular (no actor overshadowed the other).
