Lyrics:
Don't you like the way I move when you see me?
Don't you like the things that I say?
Don't you like the way I seem to enjoy it?
When you shout things but I don't care
Something's happening and it's happening right now
You're too blind to see it
Something's happening and it's happening right now
Ain't got time to wait
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
Don't you like the way I dance, does it bug you?
Don't you like the cut of my clothes?
Don't you like the way I seem to enjoy it?
Stick my fingers right up your nose
Something's happening and it's happening right now
You're too blind to see it
Something's happening and it's happening right now
Ain't got time to wait
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change, yeah, take it Hugh!
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change, lovely
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
I said something better change
Change, change, change, change
Change, change, change, change
Change, change, change, change
Change
Change!

we need a band like this in 2023...
There are a lot of good new bands recently, don't think they carry Stranglers Vibes but The Struts are pretty good.

Right that’s it, No more heroes album is getting blasted oot this afternoon 😁

Doont blame year. Thanks for the goal v Forest in the league cup final btw Andy. Up the Wolves!
Brilliant I was a 14 yr old punk now 60
I was 16 yr old just left school then now 63 wish I can go back there and that age
58 and still listening to the stranglers
If you're a punk, you might grow old, but you never age. Maybe older, perhaps wiser, but still a fucking punk
RIP Dave Greenfield and Jet Black two of the best musical genius
A true masterpiece. R.I.P. Dave. Gone but never forgotten!❤
R.I.P tabby cat.
And sadly Jet too! ❤

YEA R.I.P Dave, ..Rock In Paradise👊
My god almighty, how many hours of my life have I spent listening to the Stranglers?
None of those hours wasted.
there is always more time to up your quota should you need it..
Hours well spent indeed.
Not enough!
@@mikegray3763 You beat me to it. That's what I was going to say!
I remember the first time I heard this, my mate Keith had a really really powerful stereo nearly blew me out of my shoes and from then on I was hooked. Music was so much better then.
The energy and sentiment of this song is needed more than ever today, both musically and politically. .
You're not wrong mate. We need a song like this from 45 years ago to wake up to ourselves.
let's do it@@terrythekittieful
I use to think that too
Indeed 😢
Yep, the indigenous people of these islands need to stand together for change.
Happy Birthday JJ BURNEL❤BEST FRENCH BASS PLAYER IN ENGLAND❤
What a phenomenal band they truly were.
England, our little island in The North Sea has produced some of the very best bands the world has ever witnessed!❤
Still great 😊😊awesome.
Still remember seeing & hearing this for the first time.
I've been 'Strangled' ever since. 🐀😎🖤
I've been Strangled since 1977.
@@DoomHasCame Much as I'd like to claim that,I'd be overselling myself as they'd just become established by the time I got to hear them. I was just becoming a teenager and people from school were playing the Rattus Norvegicus album. I quickly became acquainted with their early breakthrough hits like Peaches,Go Buddy Go,Straighten Out and this song and also got into songs such as Get a Grip on Yourself and Hanging Around. My mum had (and still has) a piano at home which me and my sister could mess around on and I started playing the keyboard tune from Peaches on it,to my mum's amusement. I think we'd both be interested to read any accounts on here from anyone who was there on the scene in time to see them emerge from nowhere.
You did get a grip on yourself, y’ mean? 😎
Oh man, when I'm listening to this I feel 16 again. These songs are full of life and positive energy.
The day that the earth stood still. ♥
Well. I am an old coot now but I am glad I was 13 when this came out. This and many other things. We needed a revolution in music and we had it.
Stranglers at their best. They really helped me cope with my hate of authority in any form. Thx, lads
LOL yes nicely put
This video along with the Straighten Out video was recorded at Southern Row, North Kensington at the bottom of the steps which lead up to Ladbroke Grove.
The intro' was recorded nearby at Colville Square just off the Portobello road. Allsaints church can be seen to the right.
fantastic! i used to play this when i was a heavy metal dj a few years after this track came out! this, always the sun & peaches were my favourite songs by the stranglers! peaches always upset old people!!!!
@@normankennith7919 If you take a look on google maps there are some orange dumpsters on the exact spot, changed a lot have to say. Cheers.
North Kensington, not South - very different. But thanks anyway as I wondered where this was filmed.
@@pierrewilliams1533 Many thanks
some things change for the better!!!@@pierrewilliams1533
This song applies as much today as it did back in 1977, truly timeless!
Change is coming but it won't be to the advantage of anyone except the powers that shouldn't be.
Something did change - music became shit. What an absolute joy to hear this 45 year old classic. It is a very long time since anyone released a record with the power and energy this has.
So true.
Exactly
So, nothing to do with the fact that you're not a teenager anymore?
@Maitre Mark yep
sure does
A classic so fit for modern times!
One of the biggest bands, both musically but most by the lyrics. Even if Hugh leaved years ago the last performace on the farwell tour was magic. Rest in peace Stranglers but you will never be forgotten
I had my 21 birthday cake shaped like an LP and decorated like ' Rattus Norveticuc 'lol☮️🏴🏴👍😊
RIP Dave. Your talent will be missed. Long live The Stranglers.
We in the 1980's blasted out the Stranglers vinyl records through 120 watt amps with 5 band graphic equalizers through 300 watt speakers. Something did change. Hahaha.
I have the pink marble 7" EP , which this track is on (not worth the millions I was hoping for) but a beautiful thing, none the less. I got it along with the Raven album (with 3D cover) a schoolmate of mine had the Black & White (white vinyl) EP and wld not, 4luv nor money, part with it. Still! There's always that one that got away. Sweet li'l trip down memory lane.
Wow... Dave Brubeck and The Stranglers.... Both performing this great song 👍
Plus that final chord came almost straight from Ram Jam Black Betty. Or Stranglers been there first ?
One of the best songs from the wonderful Stranglers.
My neighbours fucking loved this played at full volume when I got home from school....... Great Britain will never be able to recreate this feeling
Brexshit effed the whole UK. The feeling has gone.
Brexit minced the UK. The feeling has gone.
I offer these two piano covers: Waltzinblack and Strange Little Girl. The Stranglers FOREVER!!!
Struggling to think of anything that has changed for the better since this song..
such a great time for music , so many superb bands, we were really blessed.
Love the bass JJ is using
Ratus norvegicus, féline, la folie and golden Brown ❤️🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
I was 17 years and now 53. Years and i love your music. Always !!!!!! 🙏❤️🙏
I’m 69 and I’m still blasting them out!
Stranglers ❤️ live in Paris Zenith ❤️ i remember....❤️...in 1986....87??? Wouawou 🤣 so strong 👍❤️🤣
Another prime example of why '77 - '82 was one of the two great golden ages of the British hit single (the other being '63 - '67).
I try very hard to explain this very thought to people all the time! But you can extend it to ‘69 early ‘70.
@@SirSneakerPimp '72/73 in UK. seemed to go in two year waves to my recollection....But it's totally crap now.And anyone who would argue otherwise can only have never experienced it when it was good
'71-'73, Slade, T.Rex. Sweet, Suzi Quattro, Wizzard
For me it was 1988 my first job the lads at work were in a band the drummer adored this band Mark Cunningham from Bradford was his name a guy you never forget, so thanks to Mark he took me to see them live at the st Georges hall Bradford, my first ever big gig, i was hooked from that day to this. An amazing band with great imagination and energy
Soundtrack of my uni days. They were unique in the 1970's and reflected the mood of the time but much more than just a punk band.
Tune just popped into my head.
The Stranglers at their very best. Seen them too many times to recall. RIP Jet, say hi to Dave, legends never die 👍
Never stop despising them with every inch of your being! It's the underground law!
very topical right now
Fortunate to see this line up live. Great band.
Blimey remember this great days , awesome band 🧙♂️
Excellent. I’ve still got the pink vinyl EP bought way back when - it has this track, Straighten Out, Grip, and Hanging Around. Amazing band.
God I miss the 70's. Today's so fake & throw away crap with no talent or meaning.
that vinyl must be worth a pretty penny now!
@@camo7886 I’ve seen them online for 12 quid so maybe not the retirement fund I was hoping for 👊😜
@Arcadelife ha, no maybe not then! Ah well, still a special thing to own, especially if you bought it new.
@@camo7886 Exactly, mate - I doubt I’d consider selling it (or most of my other weird 70s/80s vinyls) unless it was some stupid life-changing amount … and even then maybe not.
Always loved this song when I was younger cause my Father would always play this on his car stereo
Brings me back to a glorious time 😍😎🤘 So happy i saw them in concert
I saw The Stranglers around the mid 80's in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California at the Santa Barbara County Bowl, just about 7 blocks north from where I resided over on the Eastside, walking distance. The Stranglers opened up for Roxy Music oddly enough. Two of my favorite bands from England!
I've never even heard of these guys, but by God, on the basis of this song and its energy alone, I gotta find out what I've been missing ...
Check their song "No More Heroes" Play it loud!!!!
You have a 1977 to 2021 feast coming.
Have you been on the moon for the past 45 yrs
Yeah. Purchase first 5 albums
Golden Brown. Right now!
The Stranglers will always rock...
Awesome 💕
J'écoutai en 77, en 87, 97 ..... et j'écoute aujourd'hui ! et j'écouterai demain....
An amazing band , a snapshot of English history .
Excellent raw, energetic, exciting and powerful music with a simple video. RIP Dave Greenfield and now Jet Black.
Such a great song
love it!
This was the first record I bought by the stranglers. It sounded different at the time. My favourite punk type group. More was to follow. Heroes. And my favourite. Golden brown. Classic song. Brilliant band.
77 school leavers disco, me in jeans & velvet jacket & this comes on. Next minute I'm pogoing as if my life depended on it. 3 minutes later I'm spewing in the boy's loos, cider & black. Life was never the same after that day.
Wow, velvet jacket, cider and black and The Stranglers. Weirdly, almost same here!!! Blue velvet jacket, red witch and The Lurkers.
@@cwm1756 by the weekend I was wearing my black "biker" DM's with old too tight white cricket trousers & a cheap plastic mac. Thought I was Hugh or Paul Simonon.
Punk Rock's equivalents to the Doors...Nuff Said !!!
The doors with balls
As Hugh Cornwell once said “aren’t doors things you open and close”
The Stranglers are way better than the doors. The Doors are overrated
Listening to Sunaks slimy sniveling speech about the contaminated blood scandal and miraculously I thought of this.
You're smashing it absolutely 💯 thanks pure quality
Absolutely brilliant 👏👌 can never be duplicated ... genius punk
This was just no bullshit, no fakery, no plastic angst music from my favourite time. Miss those times.
Just love the way this smacks in after guitar into. Used to rehearse same place as Stranglers late 70s.this song So apt right now in 2023.
The solos that the man played are of the highest order.
What a Band! What a Song!! I thank God I got to see them live umpteen times with my Young Brother (RIP)

Raw and aggressive 😂 i love ❤️ this great music 😊timeless 👌.
There were many excellent keyboard and synth musicians during my time period, like Ralf Hutter, Florian Schneider, Keith Emerson, Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman, Edgar Froese, Wendy Carlos, Vangelis, Billy Currie, even Brian Eno who considers himself as a non-musician. But Dave Greenfield (may he Rest In Peace) had his own unique style. I had the good experience seeing The Strangers in concert around 1983 or 1984 in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California (on the Central West Coast) at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. It was their 'Feline Tour' and they opened up for Roxy Music.
Great stuff.
The single of this was the first record I bought with my own money way back in the day :)
Mine too, Birthday money, 15 and the world ahead.
One of my favourites plus / Straighten Out as the double A side is just class.
There is a big change coming,
I don't care who you are,
It will change everyone.
SAS Rogue brought me here id forgotten about this classic i was a teenager when this came out music was just great then
F**kin epic!!!
YES!!!!
The stranglers choke me up, sorry couldn't resist, great music, early stuff was unique and still is I guess
Keep this on You tube forever,,,You wont see this on TV
Never seen this video before! Classic track as well!
what a banger of a track this is and always loved jj's bass guitar.superb.R.I.P. dave brilliant keyboard player.
Wonderful.
Sniffing glue, bonfires in the park, causing a ruckus. Loved that time in my life. Something changed
Nice to see official uploads of old videos
I absolutely love the pictures they show distill picture when they say something better change, and they show the drummer’s face. He looks like a true John Bonham look
This is them at their best before the Heroin Honeymoon Ended...at least we got Golden Brown...light at the end of the tunnel eh?♥️
I can't stop listening to this song it's so damn good!!! 🔥
My boys. A band I grew up with. RIP Dave and JB. Gone but never forgotten.❤️

RIP Dave Greenfield
You have to love the energy of this song and video! really good way to start the day!!
liked the Stranglers in the 70's and still like them today .. period
So awesomely wonderful !!!! Saw them several times in Sydney and met them twice...very special times xxx Awesome clip !!
RIP Jet thanks for everything 🖤
The Doors closed then opened & out popped The Stranglers
Remember when the Stranglers were on John Peel 1975 ish and while we did the Lord's prayer in assembly, my mate wearing national health glasses looked at me and said ' did you hear the Stranglers on John Peel last night ? ' ' Yeah they fucking brilliant ' Amen.
Essa é uma das melhores musicas do The Stranglers , sou fã da banda desde os anos 80 , e tem outra música espetacular , "aways this sun ".
Listening to more and more of the stranglers. Damn there music is good!!! My first intro to them was golden brown when I was really young and heard some other songs by them in the background but didn't know at the time it was them. I'm 23 and love their stuff.
Superb Stranglers and Something....👏🏻👏🏻
This song isn't fast but the aggression and attitude it gives out is immense
Always a Great song!! Very nice video
So unbelievably great
Very tight playing and a little unusual for punk bands at the time to have a kind of virtuoso keyboard player. The bass is really upfront and JJ Burnel is master at that. It would make anyone pick up a bass and start banging on it rather any other instrument. He is a powerful vocalist too. The drums and guitar are all top notch.
Been a rocker my whole life but the stranglers were something else!!!!!!!!
Stranglers forever in mind from Portugal ❤
Who will ever produce music like this ever again? KSI? Ed Sheeran? It's all gone down the pan
RIP JET BLACK... YOU MIGHTY BEAST!
