    This is what I call improvisation. Great stuff. This means the power supply is buggered. Will have to get a new one.

      @KevinBurns nope the board is not fried I have a dell optiplex 780 sometimes it turns on sometimes it doesn't it has amber light of death with 1 and 3 buttons lighting up blinking and that's because I opened my power supply and I checked the board out and saw a bulgy capacitor so most likely that is not carrying the normal startup voltage that it needs so u cant fix a fried motherboard

  • @KabookiSan
    @KabookiSan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    You are just forcing the power supply to turn on, that doesnt fix the issue why the light was flashing in the first place. Blinking Amber means the power supply is receiving power but is unable to distribute the power properly (Bad power supply) This video only describes how to force the power supply to turn on, the other components will still be getting insufficient power. Just get a new power supply.

    I have a Dell Optiplex 7010, and three days ago, it didn't powered up (1 blink pause, 2 blinks = bad motherboard), so I'd decided to take it to a repair shop. There they told me that it was unfixable, that I'd to buy a new one. The assurance company didn't cover it, so I was gave it up. Then I saw your video, but also another one that recommended to renew the thermal paste for the cpu and remount it, so I told the shop's technician to try it. This afternoon I went to the shop and they told me that it was unsuccessful, so I brought back the pc to my house decided to try your fix. Then, SURPRISE ! without doing your fix, at first attempt, the pc BOOTED without issues. What the fff***k ! I'm puzzled Dell, I'm puzzled, I hope it lasts and stays working. I think Dell's pcs behave in a very strange way, because there are lots of cases around internet about booting issues. Right now, I'm happy to write this on my revived dell 7010 pc... By the way... By doing this wire's procedure, you are "re-flowing" the ground thing to the case of the computer... Not a bad idea, but... Is it dangerous ? Any idea of the possible reason ?... What are the electrical fundaments of your idea ?

  • @cgtheannoying4714

    This is pretty much like you're forcing the PSU to turn on, its a good idea yeah, but those light meant to be a dead PSU and if anyone tried it and it didnt work you should look for replacement PSU for the same model. Nice and simple tut, keep it up.

    I encountered the same problem, it seems like it was the power supply that was at fault. I need not to cut the green wire, I only tested the PSU's (Power Supply Unit) functionality by cutting both ends of a wire (I had another wire) and inserted it on the ATX Power Cable, the first end is adjacent to the green wire and the other one is adjacent to any black wire (You can check "PC Tip: Testing a Power Supply with The Paper Clip Test" it's the same method I did.) My PSU worked and when I plugged my ATX Power Cable back to my motherboard, my PC worked. I hope this might help you guys out.

    ALso try to do a hard reset on the bios by removing the old CMOS battery for 5 minutes while having the system unplugged. (also hold down the power button once unplugged for the first minute). Then replace the old Cmos battery and plug the pc in and power it on.

    Methods to solve the issue.
    (1)If there is a blinkin' amber orange light on your power button that means Your Power supply ain't malfunctioning. To solve this one: There is a cable coming' outta your power supply which has sorta a bunch of wires that is connected to the Motherboard as the MAIN CABLE... There's a wire coloured green. You'll need to cut this and tape it on anywhere of your Computer's Case/body. It will boot up the computer with showin' a green light on the power button Or if your computer didn't boot up See the next Method for the motherboard.
    (2)If there is a solid amber orange light on your power button that means Your Motherboard ain't malfunctioning. To solve this one: Unscrew the CPU Cooler and right close to it there would capacitors... Two capacitors around a little AC and there are 6 capacitors around 3 ACs... You gotta find which one is damaged. The one which works fine is sorta Glass-type coloured like a little light orange. The damaged's one surface is black... You just have to break it through a screwdriver or anythin'. Just take it outta your motherboard... Your PC will start up... That's what's the problem is. And yeah puttin' a bulb inside your Computer would help a dyin' capacitor and leavin' your computer with the case open on the SUNLIGHT would help you boot i up. I dug a lot to fix this up... I expereicned you didn't. Try these methods I told you...

    I have Dell Optiplex 620.Of late, it has been behaving like this. (Normally when you start with power supply, the fan will start and then stop till you push the "on" switch of the front panel of cabinet.) When recently, I try to start the 'on' switch on the body, it will show orange light and not turn green to put the system on. I was puzzled. The system starts at random attempts. No certainty. I tried SMPS cable, Mother board supply socket, battery etc. ( all these removed and again plugged in) It still gives random observation. i.e. sometimes starts and works and many times on strike, i.e. orange light again. Now while writing this comment, the system put on through trial and error method. Let me see how long, how many days it works normal. If it fails again, then I am sure going to go the way shown in this video.
    My earlier problem was fan making more noise, running at high speed. This was solved sometime back by myself by cleaning the CPU fan and cooling fins. I had obtained the jelly to required after re-fixing the cooling fan That worked for month or so. Fan was very silent. But when I again opened the fan and cleaned it and replaced with jelly, it still makes noise, and goes on high speed. All this shared for use of viewers. Thanks.

    2. Replace it with a-Processor/CPU
    3. Clean the ram slots
    4. Connect all the power connectors to see if its beeping
    Note: if its beeping means your motherboard is alive.

    When you turn a screw to hold a wire bend the wire in the SAME direction you are turning the screw. You are turning it in the opposite direction the wire is bent. You are working against yourself. You want the turning of the screw to pull your wire into the grip of the screw. Not push the wire away. It can still be done, but it goes a lot easier if you wrap the wire in the same direction the screw is going to turn...

  • @FOUAD60SANTOS

    There is other simple way. . Press the small light button behind , next to the power supply for 5secound, together in same time as power button and release When you see green, it 'll take sometime about 10 MN , . I think it need to worm up to hold the green light that is the problem.. I do this every day now.

    I'M a dunce! I did exactly what you did and boom! It worked! I was about to junk this one and even bought a smaller refurbished dell optip!ex mini that had the same damn problem too! but it didn't work on the mini newer one. But I couldn't leave well enough alone! I went to the one I fixed and decided to shorten up the jump wire and think I tried something because when I repeat the steps!? The amber light blinks as I plug in power but as soon as I touch the 2 wires together? It shuts the light off and never boots up now! You hear the fan almost start up but that's it! Both computers have new batteries and the larger computer that I once fixed by doing this doesn't have the reset button in the back like the newer mini dell optiplex. Any ideas!?

      Tells that your system has not been properly grounded. You are giving too much electric current to your system board. Your CPU and/or RAMS will explode sooner or later!

    now the cmos battery as its lower voltage, now i need to purchase a new one, as ive notice that some times when u twist the wire connected to the green wire and the other one is at the body of the power supply, the fan speed sometimes increase and decrease how can i say this you will determine it when you power it on

  • @danwat1234
    @danwat1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow who would have thought it would be that simple. For any ATX power supply you can turn it on manually by jumping the green wire to ground. The PSU must be giving a bad health signal to the motherboard and so the motherboard is refusing to turn on the power supply so you do it yourself! it's interesting how the power supply will still turn itself on even though it knows there is something wrong with itself.

    • @InfinityFace
      @InfinityFace 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While reading this comment I realized part of the onboard built in motherboards features is possibly receiving the wrong signal and is probably glitched out and crossing other channels leading to the motherboard not powering on but repeating the restart system that is part of the motherboards software. But only when the system fails opposed to after the system went through a power issue.

    So my "new" Dell Inspiron 530 I got a month ago has a solid amber light on the power button. Surprisingly when I pressed the amber button it went blue and it DID POST a couple times and I checked out the BIOS. I put a solid state drive in it and powered it on but it won't POST now. I disconnected the SSD but it still won't POST. It now still has the solid amber light but when I press the power button it goes blue like before but it will not beep. The screen doesn't power on now either. I press the power button again and it turns off. I don't have to hold it in to turn it off. I guess I'll get a new Power Suppy Unit but do you know if it might be something else? I'd hate to get the new PSU and it still does this. I DID replace the CMOS battery as I was told the old one was bad and the guy I bought it from replaced it with another old battery and he wasn't sure about it. So I put in a new one. But my power button isn't flashing orange which I think means its the CMOS. It's light is solid amber. So solid orange means a power supply problem, I've read. Could it be something other than the PSU?? I will point out that there is two different kinds of memory in the computer, all four a 2 GB's, but with the amber light meaning a power problem could it be the memory? Any help is appreciated.
