Dell PC that won't turn on, Chances are that you have a power supply problem. Most of the time the power light will be flashing
Orange.Complete video Tutorial - Fix the Dell Orange Light of Death
''WOW'' i was getting ready to give up and throw it away.....But thanks to you Blue Kap.....Followed your instructions till the end and everything worked out beautiful....Now I still have my PC working again......Great job ...thank you for saving me money and time......Take care Good Buddy......
This is what I call improvisation. Great stuff. This means the power supply is buggered. Will have to get a new one.
@KevinBurns nope the board is not fried I have a dell optiplex 780 sometimes it turns on sometimes it doesn't it has amber light of death with 1 and 3 buttons lighting up blinking and that's because I opened my power supply and I checked the board out and saw a bulgy capacitor so most likely that is not carrying the normal startup voltage that it needs so u cant fix a fried motherboard
You are just forcing the power supply to turn on, that doesnt fix the issue why the light was flashing in the first place. Blinking Amber means the power supply is receiving power but is unable to distribute the power properly (Bad power supply) This video only describes how to force the power supply to turn on, the other components will still be getting insufficient power. Just get a new power supply.
No in fact this is a problem in the motherboard the power supply is working good i have the same problem and taste the power supply and deliver the correct voltage in every cable
Not to wotty, someday power supply make go boom! all set ok?
I have this problem every day! Bruh!
I have that but everything is getting power but no signal on the monitor
I have a Dell Optiplex 7010, and three days ago, it didn't powered up (1 blink pause, 2 blinks = bad motherboard), so I'd decided to take it to a repair shop. There they told me that it was unfixable, that I'd to buy a new one. The assurance company didn't cover it, so I was gave it up. Then I saw your video, but also another one that recommended to renew the thermal paste for the cpu and remount it, so I told the shop's technician to try it. This afternoon I went to the shop and they told me that it was unsuccessful, so I brought back the pc to my house decided to try your fix. Then, SURPRISE ! without doing your fix, at first attempt, the pc BOOTED without issues. What the fff***k ! I'm puzzled Dell, I'm puzzled, I hope it lasts and stays working. I think Dell's pcs behave in a very strange way, because there are lots of cases around internet about booting issues. Right now, I'm happy to write this on my revived dell 7010 pc... By the way... By doing this wire's procedure, you are "re-flowing" the ground thing to the case of the computer... Not a bad idea, but... Is it dangerous ? Any idea of the possible reason ?... What are the electrical fundaments of your idea ?
This is pretty much like you're forcing the PSU to turn on, its a good idea yeah, but those light meant to be a dead PSU and if anyone tried it and it didnt work you should look for replacement PSU for the same model. Nice and simple tut, keep it up.
what is psu
oh really? should i buy a new psu? should it be same model?
Happiest day ever I thought my pc was spoilt thanks bro 💯 working 🙏😄
Thanks.... worked in my case(optimplex 380)
Ps: installed of living wires hanging out, you can make a cavity in the front panel(plastic part) and add a small switch
You are the truth, the explanation was a little long, but I took the patient if following what you did, and now mine is working after doing the samething, I will install an on and off switch in it
I can't thank you enough! I followed your directions and it worked great! I really appreciate your time and effort to create and share this video. God Bless YOU!!!
Hello frankie
I would consider this technique only in an emergency where you had to have the computer up and running. Its important to note that is only a temporary fix, something is amiss that needs to be addressed. Most like PSU or PWR short somewhere. Thanks
Not to wotty, someday power supply make go boom! all set ok?
Change SMPS
Oddly, when my "blinking amber of doom" started, my computer was on and kept running...it...seemed to be running actually just fine still but yeah, not having it would be better of course :)
Sir, thank you for the great video. Can I just replace a new power box instead as I’m not too good in messing with wires?
my dell system was doing this many times years ago. i took the motherboard out and strip everything off it and clean the board with rubbing alcohol.also the bottom side of the cpu i clean. it has been 3 years and i never got that problem again.
Lol I put my vga cord into my gpu and idk this orange light jus started blinking idk if that was the problem tho idk but could u help
I mean mother board
Yes bro
Thanks for your video.getting same error on Dell optiplex 980. Used your trick and it works, Saved my 1000 of rupees and my Dell system, as no one ready to repair it. Great video.
Hi, i’ve Optiplex 960 but my light blink after 30 mins with a sound like tac-tac-tac in the power supply,I don’t know if we’ve the same problem
Give me exactly your situation plz
I encountered the same problem, it seems like it was the power supply that was at fault. I need not to cut the green wire, I only tested the PSU's (Power Supply Unit) functionality by cutting both ends of a wire (I had another wire) and inserted it on the ATX Power Cable, the first end is adjacent to the green wire and the other one is adjacent to any black wire (You can check "PC Tip: Testing a Power Supply with The Paper Clip Test" it's the same method I did.) My PSU worked and when I plugged my ATX Power Cable back to my motherboard, my PC worked. I hope this might help you guys out.
Thanks alot man. I did exactly as you have instructed and to my surprise the dead system started working very fine again. Thanks a Million you have saved my money. Am grateful Man.Cheers and keep up the good job.😀😁
ALso try to do a hard reset on the bios by removing the old CMOS battery for 5 minutes while having the system unplugged. (also hold down the power button once unplugged for the first minute). Then replace the old Cmos battery and plug the pc in and power it on.
Methods to solve the issue.
(1)If there is a blinkin' amber orange light on your power button that means Your Power supply ain't malfunctioning. To solve this one: There is a cable coming' outta your power supply which has sorta a bunch of wires that is connected to the Motherboard as the MAIN CABLE... There's a wire coloured green. You'll need to cut this and tape it on anywhere of your Computer's Case/body. It will boot up the computer with showin' a green light on the power button Or if your computer didn't boot up See the next Method for the motherboard.
(2)If there is a solid amber orange light on your power button that means Your Motherboard ain't malfunctioning. To solve this one: Unscrew the CPU Cooler and right close to it there would capacitors... Two capacitors around a little AC and there are 6 capacitors around 3 ACs... You gotta find which one is damaged. The one which works fine is sorta Glass-type coloured like a little light orange. The damaged's one surface is black... You just have to break it through a screwdriver or anythin'. Just take it outta your motherboard... Your PC will start up... That's what's the problem is. And yeah puttin' a bulb inside your Computer would help a dyin' capacitor and leavin' your computer with the case open on the SUNLIGHT would help you boot i up. I dug a lot to fix this up... I expereicned you didn't. Try these methods I told you...
Where do I need to tape the green wire on the motherboard or outside the case
@@flamynoob9316 He did say to the outer case, not the board, otherwise... POP!
Putting it into a paragraph and fixing up the spelling would help.
In my case even switch button is not glowing. It OPTIPLEX 3020
The real an only problem is to repair the power supply. I just repaired an Optiplex 760 power supply that needed all new capacitors.
And you achieved that how
Wrote the values of the existing capacitors down, went to digikey and ordered new ones. Desoldered the old ones and soldered new ones. Make sure to buy Japanese brands and choose low ESR ones when possible.
in few cases is the PS
This video dosen't work for my Dell 790 and my power button still being orange light.
Please show me way how I can fix it by other ways.
Thanks
@@yangonhousingservice9446 Replace the power supply. Or recap it, if there are bulging caps in it.
Thank you bro, you just saved my computer, dell optiplex 755. God bless you
Bhai konsa wire cut Kiya Dell oplitex 755 me green wire nhi he pls batao😭😭
Optiplex 7010 Flashing orange power button same problem! Your videos same tips do for Optiplex 7010 PC its @ risk motherboard or not ?????
I have Dell Optiplex 620.Of late, it has been behaving like this. (Normally when you start with power supply, the fan will start and then stop till you push the "on" switch of the front panel of cabinet.) When recently, I try to start the 'on' switch on the body, it will show orange light and not turn green to put the system on. I was puzzled. The system starts at random attempts. No certainty. I tried SMPS cable, Mother board supply socket, battery etc. ( all these removed and again plugged in) It still gives random observation. i.e. sometimes starts and works and many times on strike, i.e. orange light again. Now while writing this comment, the system put on through trial and error method. Let me see how long, how many days it works normal. If it fails again, then I am sure going to go the way shown in this video.
My earlier problem was fan making more noise, running at high speed. This was solved sometime back by myself by cleaning the CPU fan and cooling fins. I had obtained the jelly to required after re-fixing the cooling fan That worked for month or so. Fan was very silent. But when I again opened the fan and cleaned it and replaced with jelly, it still makes noise, and goes on high speed. All this shared for use of viewers. Thanks.
On occasion popping the battery out and resetting the bios will solve this problem. And while your at it a little cleaning doesn`t hurt.
Then how you solve that problem plz tell me in brief coz same thing happening to me ~_~
Not to wotty, someday power supply make go boom! all set ok?
Great video... though, out of my absolute ignorance i have a question... Why not connect the green cable directly to the screw of the PSU?
Sir, will you plz guide us, instead of cutting wire & joining new wire, which part we need to replace as a professional or as per company fitting????
psu or motherboard :)
Cutting 24-pin ATX connector lines... Masking tape... Bare wires out the front...
Absolutely dreadful.
@Dawid Jandzinski ahahhahhaha
well on a pos as a test who would care
Ay if it saves u money, it anit stupid!

@@anthonyreeves8685 you could just use a switch instead
or swap the switch is usually whats bad
I didn’t fix the issue with cutting the green wire, but thanks bro give me a direction, I changed the power supply and my computer works.👍
Plz tell me price of power supply
always hook the wire with the open on the right of the screw you attach it too, so when you twist it tightly, it doesn't try to open itself up...wire on the left, open on the right...
THank you so much my friend for making this video. i tried this method on my Optiplex 780 and now its working again
You be vetty, vetty , good, Not to wotty, someday power supply make go boom! all set ok?
I have this problem too(solid amber light)
But i managed to fixed it.
Here's some steps
1. Remove the power connectors including the 12v 4 pin connector
2. Replace it with a-Processor/CPU
3. Clean the ram slots
4. Connect all the power connectors to see if its beeping
Note: if its beeping means your motherboard is alive.
5. Put back the ram sticks
6. Put back all the components and the connectors
7. Your Computer is fixed!
Wow! it's good job, i am from EGYPT
Is this last long? works for me thanks optiplex 755

Thanks. My Dell Optiplex 745 started working after trying this!
It's working smoothly on Optilex 3020. Thanks.
when i do that my fan only shift once
@0.2uikorraM dead psu you need a new one
Same
When you turn a screw to hold a wire bend the wire in the SAME direction you are turning the screw. You are turning it in the opposite direction the wire is bent. You are working against yourself. You want the turning of the screw to pull your wire into the grip of the screw. Not push the wire away. It can still be done, but it goes a lot easier if you wrap the wire in the same direction the screw is going to turn...

How to know my Dell when motherbod is dead
"System battery voltage low" replace your cmos battery man. That can actually cause the amber light of death.
Devin Tech Tips yo devin I laughed at your comment thinking the cmos will never be the problem.i ended up just switching the cmos battery as u mentioned for a good working one..and low and behold the orange led stopped blinking and the machine now powers on and works normally...haha I’m still shock..thanks a lot for your tip bud..that shit works.lol
Battery Voltage Is Low Is Another Problem
when i tried to replace the cmos battery works fine for a couple of tines but when 1 day i open it again the issue becomes worst, and the battery becomes weak,
Light is blinking
Blue Kap, what is the wattage ( 400, 500, 600 ? ) of your power supply in the video and what is the model of your Dell computer in the video?
says 755 at the end of vid. Most dell`s are the same configuration.
Thanks. I just got my optiplex 780 out of storage for 2 years and I had a yellow light. I spliced the wires and it turned on but it's not displaying on my monitor and the 3 and 4 light stays on. I'll sort it out another time.
It is related to memory
YOU ARE A LIFESAVING GENIUS, I THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!!
Thank you very much you saved me. God bless you. I am from Kenya, Africa
Excellent... My booting up is no longer a problem
GOOD TICHING KARTE HO AP 👍👌👍👌👍👌
This is for the Orange Light of the motherboard and PC button !!! same problem was with me the PC wasn't showing any result after turning it on...
Guys dont worry just plug out all usb devices and then Clean the motherboard including the fans and RAM,,, the place where Ram is plugged in... And then put the things back in and turn on .... it will work and if it doesn't just change the place where you are used to plug in your PC power it will work!
Muhammad Shahir same problem
Same problem orng light please halp

If anyone is still having problems with this go to TechSupportDell and look for "no power?learn about dell's built in self test for power"-video title

This method helped me with Dell optiplex 755
Thank you very much
how
i do this and my optiplex 755 cpu turn on but no display
Worked like a charm! Big heaps of thanks man.
My Dell Optiplex 990 displays similarity, but am afraid to cut the wires yet. Is there any way around cutting the wires in event that is not the issue?
Did you cut the wire? In my case, following this wire-cut technique did not work.
Did you have Amber light on motherboard board before fix
It didn’t work. When they weren’t shorted it started flashing amber and when i connected them it went back to solid amber.
Wow 👏 this worked I thought it was the end for my PC you're a genius, thank you thank you 😊🙏
I got same problem i just tried pushing the plug in further and it worked
how to resolve the "power on no display" issues in dell inspiron small CPU, can u please tell me about this?
Thanks So Much... You Are The Man!
Thankfully i found after 7months
all you need is to change the power supply, that is L255p-o1
There is other simple way. . Press the small light button behind , next to the power supply for 5secound, together in same time as power button and release When you see green, it 'll take sometime about 10 MN , . I think it need to worm up to hold the green light that is the problem.. I do this every day now.
I have bought a spare PSU and it didn't work. Tried the fix in the video and it didn't work. Removed four "non-mandatory" capacitors around the CPU and the same. Do you have any fix?
I got a dell 360 desktop fan working but the power botton and the motherboard light is orange ,how can u help me fix it cause I try what I saw in this video and it never work .I even clean the motherboard and fan nothing still happened
I'M a dunce! I did exactly what you did and boom! It worked! I was about to junk this one and even bought a smaller refurbished dell optip!ex mini that had the same damn problem too! but it didn't work on the mini newer one. But I couldn't leave well enough alone! I went to the one I fixed and decided to shorten up the jump wire and think I tried something because when I repeat the steps!? The amber light blinks as I plug in power but as soon as I touch the 2 wires together? It shuts the light off and never boots up now! You hear the fan almost start up but that's it! Both computers have new batteries and the larger computer that I once fixed by doing this doesn't have the reset button in the back like the newer mini dell optiplex. Any ideas!?
I did the same thing now the power button is not turning on. Only fan and hard drive is running.
But the main problem is display is not showing.
Can you help me?
I have problem in my pc. When i start the pc the beep sound is produced for six times. I also change the rams but it doesn't work. Please solve my problem.

Sir,I have the same CPU , my problem is that when everytime I start my CPU it shows error of " Alert, error intialliging pci express slot 4". But all my PCI slots are empty.
Please Sir, help me to get the solution for this.
Samee
Thanks bro. It works. but the fan runs high than normal.
Tells that your system has not been properly grounded. You are giving too much electric current to your system board. Your CPU and/or RAMS will explode sooner or later!
now the cmos battery as its lower voltage, now i need to purchase a new one, as ive notice that some times when u twist the wire connected to the green wire and the other one is at the body of the power supply, the fan speed sometimes increase and decrease how can i say this you will determine it when you power it on
Thank you. It worked. This is a lifesaver.
Wow who would have thought it would be that simple. For any ATX power supply you can turn it on manually by jumping the green wire to ground. The PSU must be giving a bad health signal to the motherboard and so the motherboard is refusing to turn on the power supply so you do it yourself! it's interesting how the power supply will still turn itself on even though it knows there is something wrong with itself.
While reading this comment I realized part of the onboard built in motherboards features is possibly receiving the wrong signal and is probably glitched out and crossing other channels leading to the motherboard not powering on but repeating the restart system that is part of the motherboards software. But only when the system fails opposed to after the system went through a power issue.
😊🎉 te yup lo
Btother do you have any other way pleese
So my "new" Dell Inspiron 530 I got a month ago has a solid amber light on the power button. Surprisingly when I pressed the amber button it went blue and it DID POST a couple times and I checked out the BIOS. I put a solid state drive in it and powered it on but it won't POST now. I disconnected the SSD but it still won't POST. It now still has the solid amber light but when I press the power button it goes blue like before but it will not beep. The screen doesn't power on now either. I press the power button again and it turns off. I don't have to hold it in to turn it off. I guess I'll get a new Power Suppy Unit but do you know if it might be something else? I'd hate to get the new PSU and it still does this. I DID replace the CMOS battery as I was told the old one was bad and the guy I bought it from replaced it with another old battery and he wasn't sure about it. So I put in a new one. But my power button isn't flashing orange which I think means its the CMOS. It's light is solid amber. So solid orange means a power supply problem, I've read. Could it be something other than the PSU?? I will point out that there is two different kinds of memory in the computer, all four a 2 GB's, but with the amber light meaning a power problem could it be the memory? Any help is appreciated.
I tried it on my 620,,it worked, but it turned off by itself 10mins later..and after i tried it again,i can only hear the fan for 2 secs n it wont turn on,n i smell smthng burning,

i'm having the same problem on my optiplex 9010. and also noticed that all optiplex users are facing the same kind of problem. dont knw the reason why
Try changing the Power supply
i already try to cut the green wire comming from the power supply, as discused in this video create a spare wire and splice the other half of the green wire to your spare wire, then the other wire connected to the body of the power supply, i already tried this but same issue is created and not the new cmos battery that i installed suddenly drop his voltage
Mine 780 optiplex,orange light,blinking 2,3 and 4..
Fan turn on full speed,...
What should i do?
Do i do it like you did????
