I am real late to the party but I have some late advice. Lol... Paint the shiny surface areas that the paint has rubbed off black. Add new light seals if they are old. Then test again. Great camera. Those ME's are tough little machines ;)
Personally I just take the old crap out with a toothpick and some ISO wipes. Then get this... I don't even replace them after!?! Hahahaha. Got this tip from a repair shop that has serviced thousands of cameras in Canada. Nice clean camera, no gunk. While we're at it, I used to live in Amsterdam; how is the old Grey Area Coffeeshop doing? The Cafe Emmelot?
Hello Lang, and sorry for the late reply, I'm still getting familiar with my dashboard. As for the focusing screen, removing the top of the camera is not the easiest thing, as all top dials and buttons need to be disassembled. I will look into it, however, and see if I can help. If you do want to have a try for yourself, however, you can check the ME service manual.
