When the Griqua (a tribe of the Khoi) did have a few members who were of Khoi and Dutch origin. They left the Cape primarily due to the Spanish Flu. Their land and cattle were being taken by the Dutch. Over a period of time the Grigua interacted with the Namaqua, Tswana and Sotho when they settled in Phillippolis in 1821 till 1863. I am from Griqua Descent and know my history.
The Griqua lost out to British imperialism first in the diamond rich GRIQUA LAND WEST and then to the land hungry British settlers in GRIQUALAND EAST . The injustices yet unanswered . The indigenous First Nation people suffer at the hands of Bantu and Europeans .
The Griqua did not "adopt" the Afrikaans language but rather had a hand in shaping the language as Afrikaans was and is the lingua franca of the Cape region and of parts of Namibia which was started in 1595 by the local Khoisan population.
