tracklist:
00:00 - Come As You Are (March 1991)
04:11 - Pennyroyal Tea (Winter 1990)
06:39 - Pay to Play (May 1990)

13:03 - All Apologies (Norwegian Wood version) (Jan 1991)
My favorite early version is the demo of drain you with Dale Crover on drums and grohl on bass. I like the guitar solo in it.
dale is awesome
Cover wrote the parts
@@ratsontherailsReally? I thought it was Chad Channing that did? Not sure if "Drain You" was written/played with Chad when he was still the drummer of Nirvana or not? It's pretty safe to assume Chad was still in Nirvana when it was written but not sure if he ever actually played it with Kurt/Krist often enough to actually have put his own twist on the drum parts? I'll look into it myself now!
@@YettiManChannel Kurt , Dale and Dave Grohl on bass were a band for a minute . Kurt first introduced Drain You to a rehearsal and Dale came up with the beat.
I don't know if you know, maybe you do but Kurt was actually Unsure about "Drain You" being a NIRVANA song.
The WTLO Box set cut the Intro out of the Drain You demo it started with Kurt saying, in a funny voice "We are the Retards, and we are going to play a song for you!, it's called Drain You" and then they launched into the song, they called the group The Retards (even though there's a punk band with that name, but that's nothing different as in 1987 when they were called Skid Row, as kurt had no idea about the hair band with the same name) but this was just a demo was Kurt's idea, he wanted to start-up as many bands as possible (believe this idea was inspired by his ex-girlfriend, Tobi Vail).
besides Drain You and a Instrumental Jam unconfirmed if anything else was recorded that day April 22, 1991 Melvins Practice Space & Crover Residence, San Francisco, CA and was recorded by Dale's then girlfriend Debbie Shane, they played some of Dale's songs, Some of Dave's songs, some of Debbie songs and then Kurt said he had this song (Drain You), but it wasn't going to be a NIRVANA song because he couldn't come up with a drum part, and he just wasn't sure if he liked it or not. Then he heard Dale's drum part and everything changed!"
After it was recorded, the following morning they still needed to do the vocals. Kurt pulled out a notebook or a torn up piece of paper with some words on it and Kurt and Debbie sat on the living-room floor so Kurt could do the vocals. They ran the 4-track through the stereo so that they could hear it through the speakers and the headphones in an attempt to get the loudest monitor sound possible so that Kurt could sing/scream/sing. Kurt recorded some back-ups, they mixed it and then Kurt and Dave split... the following month in May 1991 for Nevermind Kurt said It was his favorite song to play, and said he's glad it's not as popular as Teen Spirit or he would probably hate it too.
Original all apologies sounds so cool!
Old Pennyroyal's guitar and vocals make it sound like something out of the Fecal Matter tapes
The genius of Kurt is floating around in Come as you are.
also more video essays soon! i just don't want to rush or make videos for the sake of making them
I love that.
Take your time man don't burn yourself out!
Take as much time as you need, your videos are great! 👍
I love your channel…keep up the great work!
Yeah take your time mate it’s alright
This is great, some I’ve heard and some I haven’t. Thanks for posting 🙏🏼
Early pennyroyal tea sounds like Leonard cohen
Probably why he mentions Cohen in the lyrics, genius

@@ratsontherailsI was just about to say the same exact thing 😂
That Pay to Play scream 🤯
In March 1991, Kurt recorded a solo Home Demo, at his Pear Street Apartment, Olympia WA where Kurt recorded "What More Can I Say?" And a Unsurfaced solo version of "Old Age".
March 20, 1990 is the first version of "Lithium" recorded at Television Studio, The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA.
"Dive" Spring, 1989 Chorus Rehearsal & Audio Studio, The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA. (on the WTLO Boxset).
"SAD" (early version of "Sappy") recorded 1987-1988 Cobain's residence, Olympia WA.
During the Winter 1990 Pennyroyal Tea demo at Kurt's Pear Street Apartment, Olympia, WA with Dave Grohl on Percussion, they also recorded a Unsurfaced demo of "All Apologies"
There is early versions of "Aneurysm", "Oh The Guilt" and "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" from the 11/25/90 The Offramp, Seattle, WA show... Which was then recorded on Jan 1, 1991 at the Music Source, Seattle, WA.
"Dumb" September 25, 1990 Solo Acoustic, KAOS Radio, Boy Meet Girl Show, The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA.
"Rape Me" Cobain Solo May, 1991 Oakwood Apartment, Los Angeles, CA.
And those are just some I can think of off the top of my head at the moment, Some that I forgot ...
All Apologies looks like the beatles on the road in vacation. I like it
Wow! I’m surprised I’ve never heard this before.
Winter 1990, when Dave was still living with Kurt at the Pear Street Apartment, besides Pennyroyal Tea they also wrote All Apologies was also written but unsurfaced so the earliest version besides that is the January 1, 1991 demo in this video (you can hear dave tell Kurt "one more time" during the second chorus) so dave definitely knew the song
Fall/winter 1990 Kurt and Nirvana wrote some great new songs Opinion, Dumb, Aneurysm, Oh The Guilt, Radio Friendly Unit Shifter, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, On A Plain, Territorial Pissings, etc ..
Nirvana's November 25, 1990 The Offramp, Seattle, WA and December 31, 1990 Satyricon, Portland, OR shows had great setlists and they played new songs at both shows, and after the 12/31/90 Portland show on 01/01/91 they had free studio time at the Music Source, Seattle, WA and their Sound Engineer Craig Montgomery recorded the session as he said he bugged the band to record them, the songs were all new except for two tracks, which were also recorded at the Music Source in September 1989 with Steve Fisks, "Even In His Youth" and "Token Eastern Song" at the January 1, 1991 session they did a better more finish sounding version of Even In His Youth and the Instrumental version of Token Eastern Song had a different verse guitar riff (kurt was probably just experimenting as that wasn't gonna be used for anything, other than the re-recorded Version of Even In His Youth, and the newer songs Aneurysm and All Apologies all the other songs were Instrumental or a low Rough Vocal track... (Even on songs like Oh the Guilt and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter) Even though they both were played live at the 11/25/90 & 12/31/90 Shows but were basically Instrumental at the 01/01/91 studio session at the Music Source.
The Noisey Intro that was in the 1989 version of Even In His Youth was turned into "Endless, Nameless" which made it's live debut on January 18, 1991 along with another new song "Territorial Pissings" at the January 18, 1991 Library 4300, The Evergreen State college, Olympia, WA ...
And who knows what else Kurt wrote and recorded solo at home or Nirvana demoed in the time between January - April 1991... (In March 1991, the home demo Kurt did with the song "What More Can I Say" also had a take of "Old Age" (which is unreleased/Unsurfaced) so that demo version of Old Age would be the earliest version before the Nirvana Boombox session In the spring of 91'
Sehr gut
All Apologies January 1, 1991 Music Source Studios, Seattle, WA?
Nirvana and kurt cobain ❤❤❤❤❤
a demo de lounge act é uma boa versão para se colocar em um video assim
All apologies kind of we can work it out feel to it 👍
Proud mary keep on burnin...
the music on pennyroyal tea sounds like my stuff! lol i'm not a good producer or drummer lol
Your music sounds pretty sick
@@camilosaavedralopez3757 in principal maybe, in reality it's a bit too janky lol thanks tho!
@@davidhatred7275 I like it, I also make music but it’s not even half of what you sound like
Amazing profile picture
The smart sessions version of pay to play predates the may one in the video
what are some other early versions of nirvana songs? a lot of songs changed lyrics/titles over time
Lounge act; “I’ll wet my bed and wear high heels”
the electric version of Polly from the Bleach era
Dope Hippie is a working title possibly for Hairspray Queen
The eagle has landed (tourette's)
I always liked the SLTS boombox demo, it has a more trippy, ethereal type vibe than the finished version. Oh also, my favorite Nirvana recording out of anything/everything. The "Blew" version from 1988. It's takes me somewhere else everytime I hear it. Also has one of Kurt's best guitar solos, at this point he still wanted to be a really good guitar player hahaha
All Apologies is way more a Velvet Underground version
I'Ve never heard that version of Pennyroyal before...do you have further information?
it was recorded in Winter 1990 with Dave Grohl on percussion. they also recorded an early demo of All Apologies that hasn't surfaced
@@rarestnirvana ah thanks, livenirvana does not list that song for the winter 1990 sessions
@@terriblecertainity www.livenirvana.com/sessions/home/winter-1990.php#gsc.tab=0
@@rarestnirvana oh..I must have misread. Thanks
Are the two men pictured at 5:00 arab nirvana impersonators?

krist looks arab af in that photo lmao
13:00 Is he taking off Andy Kaufman?
Id say so
Why ''All Apologies"
cooled Norwegian wood version ?
Shouldnt pay to play be listed as early version of stay away
Well it’s also an early version of Pay to Play so it could be either way
сool!
All apologies kinda sounds like mommas gotta squeeze box by the who
wtd with pennyroayal tea xd
what year did Krist & Kurdt meet ?
not sure, i've seen people say 1983
Справа чувак нр Лейна Стейли похож на первом фото
Theres another version of vendetagainst ?
they played it live a handful of times, but it's commonly bootlegged under the name "Help Me I'm Hungry" or "Come on Death".
This version is on the with lights out box set i believe
Wow that's terrible
