    Best teacher in TH-cam! Eternal gratitude to you sir!
    Unfortunately, I was trying to fix the particles for almost 2 weeks, but they fly away... I found in vellumsolver/advanced/motion/limit acceleration in velocity update to actually helps, but it is not the same and I constantly getting artifacts, outside the volume, not sure why. Is this is something, that was changed in Houdini 19 for vellum grains?
    Everything else is great, thank you so much John Kunz! Best tutor ever!.

    This helped tremendously John! I'm applying this with solaris/karma, and I'm wondering if there'd be a way to randomly assign a material to one of the sand particles?

    Hi John, my RAM keeps filling up completely(128gb) when trying to render out the instances in Redshift. Making it unable to render out the image. Do you have any idea how to solve this? The instances run very smooth in the viewport, though.

  • @lukeswain3630
    @lukeswain3630 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    @John Kunz These tutorials are fantastic. Quick question: Is there any reason why Mountain node wouldn't work after converting to vdb? It renders before that node, but after that conversion, it doesn't seem to have an effect on the model, so it still looks smooth and puffy. :D
    EDIT: Found it! Looks like the Convert To Poly node was set to Volume instead of Poly. So that's why my normals were disappearing!

  • @JosefMaxwell

    Amazing tutorial! I hit a weird snag when I turn off "Render Objects as Particles" I started getting "Unable to finish the instances points extraction for the "walk_man" OBJ node"
    It doesn't seem to be breaking anything but curious if you knew what that meant or what could cause it?

  • @denischadov

    Hi John, can you please tell me how do you add motion blur? I turn on the checkbox on the redshift ROP node in the motion blur enable instances / particles blur tab And when rendering everything except the background

    When i move the copy from the sphere to the timeblend, it doesn't copy the grain geometry over for something, any guesses on why?

  • @chrysokerux
    @chrysokerux 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey thanks for the amazing tut! I just have a question, when adding the multiply pscale as a attribute randomize, I dont see any thing change, it is like the pscale does not affect anything. Any suggestions as to why this is so?

    • @JohnKunz
      @JohnKunz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My only guess is that the attribute randomize is still set to 3 dimensions. This is the default setting and can cause issues or be ignored all together with 1 dimensional attributes like pscale.

    • @chrysokerux
      @chrysokerux 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnKunz Thanks for the quick reply! I have gone back a few times and double checked all settings and I can see that the dimensions are set to 1. The Attribute Randomize and Attribute Cast node also do not work, I suspect because of the "Multiply_Pscales" Node not detecting the pscale. Basically I cannot tell if it is the pscale that is not working or the variant... Guess I got to spend a few hours exploring, possibly a glitch?
      You can see what I get, a merger of all grains here:
      ibb.co/98phrxF
      Also, using exactly the same Houdini version as in the video.

    • @chrysokerux
      @chrysokerux 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnKunz Solved! I forgot to tick the "Piece Attribute" and add in "variant" in the copytopoints. Thanks!

    • @JohnKunz
      @JohnKunz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrysokerux Great to hear you got it working! Houdini has so many boxes to tick on nodes it's easy to get lost :S
      I've found it helpful to use the Geometry Spreadsheet when debugging networks. It can help verify whether the necessary attributes exist and are valid. The piece attribute tick box is a gotcha for sure tho!

    • @JohnKunz

  • @denischadov
    @denischadov 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi
    John can you please tell me how to be for those who have houdini version 17 There is no checkbox in the copy to point node piece attribute How to implement random stones on a sphere

    • @JohnKunz
      @JohnKunz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      variant option was added after version 17, you'll have to build it yourself using many copy sops or a loop to get the different stones.

    • @denischadov
      @denischadov 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnKunz I am new to houdini. So it's better for me to upgrade to version 18 or stop using your tutotial? Because I can't do it myself. Maybe there is some kind of video that explains this to me?
