    Put a Mishimoto Thermostat on my 5.9L 24 Valve Cummins. Worked okay for about 18,000 miles. Coming from Las Vegas to SoCal via Death Valley .. my coolant gauge almost maxed out. Long story short. When I got home I pulled out the Mishimoto Thermostat and found it had some kind of plastic inside it which was pulled out by pressure. Furthermore, during the 18k miles I had it, operating temperature was always low. In other words, the Needle Gauge on my Dash would always read to the cool side. But with an OEM thermostat, the needle would always go to the middle when the engine was at normal operating temperature. Bottom line, I tossed out the Mishimoto and put in an OEM and the truck is happy as can be. The Dodge engineers are smart. They also do a lot of testing prior to manufacturing. They know exactly what is best and there's no use in trying to put in expensive after-market parts which are not up to OEM standards. I do a lot of towing. Keeping the radiator and other components clean is also essential.

      Exactly, people add all these things for more performance. Causing their own issues. The 5.9 Cummins runs hot. They always have. It's designed to do so from the factory. I don't like it myself. But, it's a fact. My truck is stock, stock, stock. I do have a 180 degree thermo. It' just makes me feel better. I do have the ats solenoid mod and the deeper ats trans pan. But, that's it. Nothing for performance. Just good smart upgrades. I use factory antifreeze and transfluid.

    Mine will hit the 230s while towing uphill, rarely though. Doesn’t bother me one bit.

    Doesn’t help putting a cooler thermostat in if your COOLING FAN DOES NOT GET TURNED ON AT THE LOWER TEMPERATURE PERIOD if you had electric fans to turn on sooner would help and ac on will partially turn on and if you want cooler just make a plate with a 1/2” hole to slow the flow down if you’re removing the thermostat the water is flowing to fast for the radiator to extract the heat

      To much flow and it won’t help cool it. The thermostat regulates the flow. And this thermostat did help. Same one still in it. Truck runs 180 unless pulling a hill. Idea to keep it cooler earlier on

    I recommend to drill it before you buy a 60.00 dollar thermostat. That's what I paid and was hotter then oem .

      I had to find out if it was a legit big dollar item that worked

    Hey man of all the upgrades to the truck you have made for towing what has benefited the most? Never asked but what are you running for a tune?

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Work&Play TV I would say just simply deleting the truck was the biggest thing. I only run a light tune when towing. Just a mini max. It will try to break the tires loose on big tune when truck is empty. But for towing load leash is money. I guess your new truck has a factor exhaust break?

    • @workplaytv
      @workplaytv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      V-BELT and SON Yeah completely shock. Def going to tune soon. Eventually egr and DPF need to leave

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Work&Play TV you have warranty to worry about right?

    • @workplaytv
      @workplaytv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      V-BELT and SON Yeah for now but really in the end is the warranty worth it? Stuff beaks rights after. I’d be willing to upgrade now.

      Work&Play TV yea I feel ya for sure! My new truck I’m gonna wait on. To much fancy stuff in cab. I got the full bumper to bumper warranty but in the end she Will be opened up haha

    I’ve got a Stant Superstat in my 2000 Cummins. Trucks putting down roughly 425-450 hp and it rarely breaks off of 190. Even when I’ve grossed 28,300 lbs pulling hills at 1100-1200 egts coolant temps stay at 190. Was gonna post a pic of thermostat info but can’t figure out how.

    I have an '05 with a nv5600 and tow everyday and now that I'm pushing 500 hp I am having cooling issues too. Thanks for reviewing this thermostat and saving me the money. Current mods are S&B cold air, Banks intercooler with monster ram, Pro Flow 4" turbo back, Quadzilla boost fooler, and the Smarty POD tuner. Just got in the mail today from BD is their VGT turbo kit for the 5.9. Also from Strictly Diesel I just got in the mail their cooling fan clutch adapter to install the mechanical clutch from the 7.3 Ford so hopefully no more cooling fan issues because you know I have the fan speed code. Last week I bought a new "aftermarket" fan clutch and within a couple of days it leaked all it's fluid out covering my fan and shroud!

    I put a 180 in 05 5.9 to try to keep 5-6 cylinders a little cooler , don’t know if it helps don’t know but the heater blows hot air twice as fast as a 190 .

    I'm curious about your front bumper and flat bed. Who made them and do you like them? Thanks man. Loving the vids.
    Maybe do a vid of your trucks trailers and equipment?

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Timothy Smith yea I can do that! Thanks for the idea.
      The bumper is ranch hand and i love it. Very solid. Flat bed is northstar. Zero issues. Might buy one if their trailers. And for trailers I just did a review on my gooseneck trailer. But I will for sure post a video of all the stuff on my 08. I also ordered more stuff for it tonight to help with towing

    Is the fan kicking in early enough?

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      B&K Excavating LLC yea that was one of first things I checked into. Computer controls the fan but I do wish it would turn on even lower. But they say if you run your ac the engine fan kicks on always. I even added two 12 inch fans to front of radiator and it didn’t seem to help much at all. If I run truck on stock it cools down but no power ha

    • @neb4x4
      @neb4x4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get those fans you added out of there! I bet it will run cooler. Never want fans in front of radiator!
