I love my Premium connectivity for all the reasons you mentioned plus Zoom meetings. Once a month I have an in-person meeting I attend 20 minutes from home. Right after that I have a monthly Zoom meeting, I attend right in my Model Y.
One thing about Premium connectivity, if you are under navigation and there is a traffic jam along your route, navigation will reroute around the traffic if a detour is available. My model X tried to route me around a road closure due to accident. I unfortunatly over rode the car trying to exit the highway and was rewarded with a 2 hour stoppage for my hubris.
The routing is exactly the same with standard, it just doesn't show you the traffic overlay. It's not like it has no mobile connection with standard - it just limits the high bandwidth stuff.
Easy decision for $99/yr. Good reasons that you cited. Only thing I would add is thinking of premium connectivity as an insurance plan to your phone connection. In the event that there is an issue with my connection, I could likely use the browser or whatever else I might need using the car. Lastly, I have unlimited data plan on my phone that throttles after a certain amount of data per month has been exceeded, which premium connectivity helps avoid. Thanks for the video.
Premium connectivity all the way. On a trip right now and I am seeing speed cameras and average speed cameras in my area on the daily. It has saved me from more than a few speeding tickets already in just a few days. Additionally, the car connection is way better than what my phone gets, big difference. In my garage at home, my phone does not get a signal, but the car does.... Long story short, it is a no brainer for me, premium connectivity is a great deal IMHO.
@@ozone7 this is not about speeding. New speed cameras in my country can fine you from just +3km/h, and even less than that if it is an average speed section.
@@TeslaFuture-b2r ...which is OVER the speedlimit and why you get a ticket. It is much easier to just drive at or under the limit, than slowing down past the cameras all the time 👍😉
Drove for 6-7 hours with FSD (Supervised) when the Free Trial was rolled out with my Hotspot connected on and it burned through 7GB of my highspeed data!
Cars for a really long time, you say. I plan on keeping my 2018 model s forever. I still have my 1982 toyota pickup i got in the 90s as my first car. I kept every car. They are all in the same perfect condition as the memories they hold.
I'm thinking the same as you Jeremiah. Premium Connectivity is totally worth every penny. I don't use any of those gaming things or the Karaoke but to see a clear map with actual buildings are invaluable when travelling outside cities to small places out in "the bush". Usually houses don't have addresses here in Sweden, it's just called a postbox number. So to be able taking up the house on the map and give it a long press to navigate there are priceless. Even to see traffic jams in advance. Just yesterday I avoided to go on the highway in my town thanks to the map warning me for a stop. It was a vehicle caught fire on the highway and the road was totally jammed with cars mile after mile. I took a detour inside town and that saved me for sure some hours in traffic. So for me too the Premium choice is a no brainer. And thanks for a very good video, take care.
Great and very much appreciate the automatic Hotspot connection. Tested and works really reliably but as we know, Tesla is a data guzzler. If you drive abroad (in Europe) it is better and probably cheaper to subscribe to Premium connectivity.
My premium connectivity free trial ends mid of this month. Not being able to view the live camera seems like a deal breaker to me. But I'm planning to allow myself a few weeks without premium to see how that really affects my lifestyle/driving etc and then make the call. I park in my closed garage so don't have to worry about viewing the live camera majority of the time. I'm hoping to treat premium connectivity just like FSD subscription. When I have a trip planned, I'll subscribe to both for a month for ~$110 and not have to worry about paying so much more upfront when I may not utilize to its full potential.
I felt this way also, but when my trial ended...next day I paid for a year subscription. Divide the total year by 365 days, less than a lollipop. This is my experience without connectivity and no one else's. The ugly gray/white nav screen, yuck! I live outside of Las Vegas and I NEED my Live Traffic Visualization and Satellite-View Maps without having to have nav open on phone to see it. Sentry Mode live camera is not for inside my garage (I have HOME excluded) but everywhere else...like parking lots and parking on the street. How many cars get hit by another backing up or dinged by a door in parking lots? How many times have people side swiped another car parked on a street...and did not bother to leave their info? I could use my phone as a hotspot for Video Streaming, Internet Browser and Music Streaming...but why run your phone battery down and plus it gets hot sometimes. Caraoke was not a deciding factor for anything. $10 a month ($120) or get 2 months free with yearly subscription ($99). At first I thought FSD subscription would be an off and on thing. Nope! Got my Tesla in December 2023 with 3 months of FSD expiring at the end of March. Then Tesla hit us with the free month of April, 4 months straight of FSD for free?! Decided I wanted to keep it. FSD helps my Tesla score stay high since I transferred to Tesla Insurance. Yes it is a monthly trade-off of $100 (my coverage was $165 for my Tesla w/Geico), but with FSD my safety score stays at 100% making my premium $62 a month. Now I have GAP insurance included where as Geico was $165 monthly and did not offer GAP! Lord forbid the area came with bad phone reception but the car would get great reception. At least I could get an email out from the browser. For some people, FSD and Premium Connectivity is a win! Good luck with making your analysis when yours expires. Would love to hear which way you voted. EDIT: Make sure you have an unlimited phone data plan and see when throttling kicks in
@@TheTekSone Thanks for sharing your elaborate experience. I agree about having the recording for when the car is parked anywhere else besides home. But if I'm not mistaken, you can still have the sentry mode enabled without the live camera view, right? When I go back to the car I can always view the occurrence of incidents, if any. In fact, if someone were to ding my car while I'm away, even if I had the ability to view it live, I may not be able to do anything about it, unless I was able to quickly capture their number plate and run to the police station with that info immediately. Regarding FSD, wow, I didn't know that using Tesla insurance gives you ratings for using FSD. That's pretty neat to keep your cost down while having your car drive for you (at a cost). Since I don't have Tesla insurance my requirements differ, but this is good info to know.
@@sinharakshit You are welcome. Yes, you can still have the sentry mode enabled without the live camera view. It depends on how you feel about live view. I like it because it will notify you and you can look to see what is going on. Maybe someone is breaking into the car. I rather see what is going on at the minute the notification goes off instead of waiting to see when I get back to my car what has happened. Maybe someone is leaning on the car or breaking windows. Sometimes you can thwart what is happening, sometimes you cannot. But I am not the one to wait and see. Regarding FSD, no that is not what I mean. I am saying I use FSD to keep my score high. By using FSD it will keep you from having forward collision warnings, hard braking, aggressive turning, following too closely, and forced autopilot disengagements. These are the things Tesla Insurance uses (grades you on) to dictate your monthly premiums. You do not have to have FSD when you have Tesla Insurance.
I didn't bother with premium connectivity initially, and let it expire after the 30 day trial. I used it for nearly a year, and didn't miss it, until I heard about some of the latest features, so I paid the yearly fee (AU$99) and use some of the features regularly. Well worth the money IMO.
how long does it take you for the car to auto-connect to iphone hotspot ? I had to toggle wifi on the tesla before it connects ? Doesn’t the car turn wifi off when you start going forward ?
From my understanding (not an audiophile) your tesla supports AAC-LC on Bluetooth and will have quality close to lossless assuming your source has AAC-LC support and a high quality codec, e.g. iPhones. There was also some information (I believe put out by Tesla themselves) when the Model 3 launched that said when paired to the Model 3, an iPhone chooses the following codec for Bluetooth streaming: MPEG2 AAC LC Stereo, 44.1khz, variable bitrate @ 256kbps peak. Also, Spotify (unsure about Apple Music) is only 96kbps. Some people say in car apps sounds better, some say bluetooth. Then again we are talking in car audio.
so just to confirm... if i don't get the premium connectivity after the free trial ends, i can still listen to music but i just need to connect it through bluetooth, but won't have access to the built-in app. am i right in saying this?
I bought my M3 through a private party transaction and I received the premium data trial for free automatically when we transferred the vehicle ownership through the app.

It does seem pretty ridiculous to have a nice Tesla with all these fantastic features, and then worry about spending $100 a year. Only to limit the experience. Totally chump change, and well worth it!
I have been told the map on a Tesla uses Google map behind the scene, if that’s the case are they charging us to get something that is supposed to be free? I.e. live traffic.
Its a no brainer at the current price. I'd be curious to see how much data it actually uses each month because I feel like, at only 10 a month, Tesla is probably losing money for most people.
Tidal Hifi can apparently consume 1411 kbps per second. Tidal also has an offline mode. So there can be a lot of data and this also applies to TH-cam and if you don't have unlimited surfing volume in your phone, you might lose your surfing volume quickly. Note you can never get lossless with Bluetooth. besides, doesn't Tesla have the best bluetooth code either, such as LDAC or aptX HD? Apple doesn't have any of them as far as I know. And whether you can get Dolby Atmos over Bluetooth in the Tesla is perhaps a question mark? . There was talk about Tesla getting Dolby Atmos
Not everyone has a mobile subscription with unlimited surfing. which definitely costs more than 10 dollars in any case in Sweden. And the purpose of a car is also that you might be out in the woods out in the countryside with the car
I run google maps on the iPhone and premium connectivity navigation on the car. The traffic indicators are sometimes completely different, so I don’t understand how they are both sourced from google.
I did not sign up for the Premium Connectivity after my purchase trial period ended in 2023. I asked the sales person does the radio work without it, and they said yes. So, I just listen to the WBBM news channel 105.9 while driving. I do notice when my Tesla is in my home garage and connected to my WIF for getting new updates, many of the premium features work. I don't need this feature for the short around town daily driving, and I do not use the public charging stations or do long trips, I charge up at home in the evenings.
Yep! Where I live 3G is shutting down next month and the whole city is now covered with 5G. 4G is congested and slow. Premium connectivity Spotify sounds awful because of the poor data rate. I use 5G tethered from my iPhone and then Bluetooth music to the Tesla, just to get audio an audio source that matches the amp and speakers in the car
@@JohnPaulHalesmaybe not so good for older people who might have a cheap push button phone or an older phone. There should be some alternative for them too, they think
Surely Bluetooth is WORSE audio quality than streaming with built in apps? Even saw a video on YT where the reviewer compares audiosystems of EVs, and the Bluetooth codec on the refreshed Model3 was kind of nerfed.
No, the Spotify in car app with premium connectivity is awful. Try playing the same song from the HIFI version of Tidal Bluetoothed to the car. The difference is surprising
awesome video! wish they could let us download music without having to use tidal, streaming on 4g all the time feels so inefficient. btw I'd love an in-depth video on how to get the best out of Teslafi. I love it, just feel like I'm oblivious to many of its features.
I'm ok with being cheap 😂 I've gone the last 4 years without premium connectivity and it would be silly for me to spend $10/month or $100/year just for caraoke for my kids. That's the only feature I've actively used through hotspot.
Surely premium connectivity doesn’t give you Spotify and netflix subscriptions right? Audi and BMW gives me a sim card for free I haven’t paid anything in 3 years!

@@TheTekSone myQ is $45/year to access on a tesla. I’d rather buy it once and be done. Plus I don’t have to worry about internet issues. Best case scenario is paying $30/year at $300/ a decade.
What is you referral code for Tesla
Not everyone has a mobile subscription with unlimited surfing. which definitely costs more than 10 dollars in any case in Sweden. And the purpose of a car is also that you might be out in the woods out in the countryside with the car
Cant wait to pickup my 2024 Model 3 Performance!!
You got the life, you must have a gravy medical or government job
Picking mine up this morning. Blue with white interior.
@@HectorGarcia-nb2ld Bro, the car is $55k.
@@HectorGarcia-nb2ld A man who controls expenses elsewhere can afford it.
Picked up mine last week!
Can I do the machine's software updates with the premium connectivity or do I have to be connected to a wi-fi, for example the one at home?
Cannot download updates via premium connectivity. Have to Hotspot or wifi.
Do you neee this for FSD?
yes
I wonder if they're going to make connectivity cheaper if it's being delivered from SpaceX Mobile.
What do you hear about Homelink capability being stopped? I need the 3 channels that MyQ does not have.
the traffic is not accurate...ie. sometimes the red comes on the screen too late to reroute or its red for nothing
I noticed that too when I had it, it would show a red line at a light and there would only be like 2 cars
I run google maps on the iPhone and premium connectivity navigation on the car. The traffic indicators are sometimes completely different, so I don’t understand how they are both sourced from google.
I cannot stress how much hotspot data it used when u have fsd
It’s $9.99 a month or $99.00 if you pay for an annual subscription. Pretty cheap really.
how come my 2024 Tesla model Y does not have Disney Plus?
Elon: "Go Duck UrShelf" "Hi Bob." Comment
Try going to Disney+ in the browser which should bring the app back.
Was this old BRoll? Disney and Hulu on the theater app?
I bought a model y about a month ago and it has both.
Thanks for this video king. Been paying monthly but I’m wondering if I should use referral points for a year or just pay the yearly subscription.
Tbh referral doesn't really have anything good besides free SC if you're road tripping. Might as well get something you'll use everyday.
I didn’t need to contact them for the premium connectivity when buying from a dealer.
Premium Connectivity in Mexico also?
are you from georgetown too?? no way bro that’s so cool
My only wish is 5G connectivity.
Worth it just for sentry mode
5:17 sign no back in packing literally everyone nahhh imma do my own thing
Tesla uses AT&T while my cellphone uses T-Mobile. On occasion, only one will be available. Subscribing provided some redundancy.
I can do Caraoke with iPhone hotspot.
It should be noted that the Model 3 users' manual specifically states do NOT install a screen protector. Just sayin' ...
You have a Tesla and you won’t pay $99/year for premium connectivity? What’s wrong with you? I’m cheap, but this is next level.
I'm ok with being cheap 😂 I've gone the last 4 years without premium connectivity and it would be silly for me to spend $10/month or $100/year just for caraoke for my kids. That's the only feature I've actively used through hotspot.
Everyone has their reasons. Mine is the reverse of your's: It should be included.
I got a Tesla to save on gas money, won’t be paying monthly for wifi that’s for sure
Tesla Maps are WAY behind like 2 years or more not updated.... seriously what is up with that.
Surely premium connectivity doesn’t give you Spotify and netflix subscriptions right? Audi and BMW gives me a sim card for free I haven’t paid anything in 3 years!
I have lifetime and they aren't giving any new stuff. Kind of sucks
it's 13 bucks a month bro lmao
Are you going to respond to CNBC hit piece on Tesla's FSD? It titled "Tesla's big gamble: Full Self-Driving in the wild" and it was aired a couple days ago, especially since they featured you in it.❓❔❓
You're nuts.
It's funny that people can afford a Tesla but are torn between getting this $10 service. 😂
Do you know how much new base Tesla model 3 is? It is about 35k after EV tax credits. It is average new car prices in USA is $47K!
Yeah I traded my 2023 Palisade for my Model Y because it’s 10k cheaper
@@agentbob8 Exactly, so why is it like a difficult decision to add the $10 a month premium service. That is so cheap.
for 100 dls a year? yes.
If you are going to use w hotspot you might want to check your data plan.
You might be surprised hiw much data you can use ina month esoeciallyif you eatch s lot of videos l.
Let me see something, $100 dollars divided by 365 days = $0.27 cents. I think is a good deal. Forget the hotspot crap please!
Give us android auto & carplay!
Tesla been firing people who work on the supercharger.
They've been hired back, troll.
Facts
Using a garage remote when the homelink is only $350 💀
or free if you have a MyQ enabled garage opener
@@TheTekSone myQ is $45/year to access on a tesla. I’d rather buy it once and be done. Plus I don’t have to worry about internet issues. Best case scenario is paying $30/year at $300/ a decade. I also just hate the idea of paying a subscription to use my garage door opener when for like $50 you can get a HomeKit enabled opener that never asks for a subscription and doesn’t even need internet to be controlled
Is no one going to mention the por I wonder why he was trying to spell lol
no one caught the por 🤣
Nope. Not worth it.
Kind of rip off. They get all their information from Google. It's something you'd get for free on any car equipped with android auto. It's one of my few gripes with Tesla.
they have to pay for the traffic data + satellite view. if you pay for a dedicated hotspot typically its $10/month on verizon + tmobile.
Condolences on using android.
Hmmmm
I am passing on Tesla - too fickle to depend on with now you have and now you don't. Plus elon is too unstable to be at the helm of a company in 2024.
Elon is too unstable? The richest man in the world? The man taking mankind to colonize the solar system? You are right… he seems kinda cucu crazy!
Hmmm. . .you knew all of that before you started the video, yet you’re so insecure that you felt compelled to watch a video about, and comment on, a brand you claim you’re not interested in. Actions speak louder than words; don’t blame Elon for your financial situation. You’re absolutely interested in Tesla.
@@Willtellthetruth Just like a zombie fanboy response with deep seeded fears that elon is too unstable to be at the helm of any company. Interesting on how elon drifts into your feelings on financial matters. Actions do speak louder than words, it's time to buy a Lyriq.
@@kelviskelvis7140🤡💩😄🥱
It's not worth it because it's slow, better use hotspot.
Kind of disgusting of them tbh
