- Lavern Baker singing her hit "Jim Dandy" back in 1986.
Lyrics:
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy on a mountain top
Thirty thousand feet to drop
Spot a lady on a runaway horse
Ah-hah, that's right, of course
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy met a girl named Sue
She was feelin' little kinda blue
Jim Dandy he's the kind of guy
Never liked to see a little girl cry
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy, go
Jim Dandy in a submarine
Got a message from a mermaid queen
She was hangin' from a fishin' line
Jim Dandy didn't waste no time
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy want to go to Maine
Got a ticket on a DC plane
Jim Dandy didn't need no suit
He was hip and ready to boot
Jim Dandy to the rescue
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, Jim Dandy
Go, go, go, Jim Dandy
Go, go, go, Jim Dandy
Go, go, go, Jim Dandy
So long, Jim Dandy
Jim Dandy's gone. - เพลง
My high school years were during the 50's and LaVern was the undisputed Queen of Rock n' Roll. I bought every 45 that she put out. Being white in those days, I had to go to the black side of town to buy them. I spent a lot of hours listenening to John R on WLAC in Nashville to get my fix on black blues and rock! I saw Lavern live in 1955 and was a freshman in high school. I talked to her backstage and she was so sweet. After she laft the stage, she came past me saying; "How was that Danny Boy!"
How was that Danny Boy?
thank you for posting! This her daughter.
Wow your mother is historic, I love her. 😍
She still had that powerhouse voice.
She was my neighbor and sometimes knock on my door to help her zip up her dress. Great lady ! Funny and kind
Awesome!
A shaky start but with her natural talent, she turns it around and delivers a storming performance. So much love for LaVern
...and thanks for posting!
TheDivine MrM Oh You'r Welcome. Glad you liked it.
Yes it seems she just jumped right on in but kudos to the band for getting things back on track. She’s still got it. And she’s got moves! Aren’t some of the band members in the Blues Brothers Band?
I'm old enough to remember the Queens of R&B and hearing them on the AM radio stations in Memphis over y0 years ago. They just don't make 'em like this any longer. Amazing performers.
One of best women of rock and roll
I thank you for posting this. We also recorded this concert when it aired on HBO in 1988. Unfortunately, during this song, Dad accidentally switched the channel, so at least ten seconds of this song are missing on our tape. Nice to finally see what I missed.
I new Lavern in the Philippines and got her to do a concert for a hotel group I worked for. Great lady, great singer and a true witty personality. Wound up the evening drinking beer at a place owned by Dennis Rodman's father. A truly memorable evening with a rock legend.
LaVERN Teach the kids coming up today how it's done....11/11/29' happy 92nd b.d. diva resting go go
This was actually from the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden on May 14th, 1988. It's pretty much the Blues Brothers band backing her up. Great, GREAT performance!
Shes, so good! Many good songs! This is a good, one!
Glad you found it. Enjoy and thank you.
love LAVERN B-A-K-E-R
the fabulous lavern baker can't be put down despite her age. Her biggest hits were covered by white crooners like Georgia Gibbs, Teresa Brewer, etc. and she sued Gibbs for stealing "Tweedle Dee" which had been written especially for Lavern. Gibbs version was number one on the all-white hit parade while Lavern's version was ignored by the white disc jockeys.
Thank you!!!
This lady can SING!!!
powerful
What a great talent!!
Amazing talent she influenced Aretha Franklin Tina Turner and the list goes on
...now LaVern's gonna sing one of Jimmy's faves...
If I am not mistaken ...that is Tom Scott on sax
Is that Lou Marini on Tenor Sax?
Definitely not.
A link to this clip was used in thegrambler.com (www.thegrambler.com/2017/11/week-14-grambleday-wishes-to-leonardo.html) a weekly blog which, while seeming to be a bit silly, actually tries to raise awareness about the dangers of bowel cancer. Read Stewart's story of how he lost his life to bowel cancer aged just 28 because the medical profession considered him 'too young' to get the disease.
Tom Scott taking the lead on the tenor sax!
Great performance, even though the band was rushing the crap out of the tune. LaVerne was a trouper for sure.
Spun this on a 45rpm record 'til it practically wouldn't play anymore..
My first real taste of rock 'n roll, heard this and picked up on it even before hearing Chuck Berry.
This woman died the day I was born...
OK, I'm confused. ????
