@bigdancd LaVern Baker was one of the first Rock stars I saw live in concert back in May,1956 at U.D. Fieldhouse, Dayton OH when I was a freshman in high school. Also on the bill was Clyde McPhatter, Big Joe Turner, The Platters, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, Bill Haley and The Comets, The Drifters, Bo Diddley, and Red Prysock and his orchestra. I was backstage right before LaVern was due to go on stage. I was so thrilled to be there since it was my first live Rock concert. I talked to LaVern about what her songs were and she said watch me from back here. She was awesome and when she came off stage and stopped to talk to me before she went in the dressing room, she said; "how as that Danny Boy" and I almost hit the floor that she took time to speak to me again. I loved her from then and through her entire career.
Here I am at 38 years old wishing I could have witnessed such a thing, I discovered her last year on Pandora and have been obsessed ever since. The 50’s really seemed like a good time.
