    I replace my shoes after about 1,500-2000 miles. Basically when they wear out. If I replaced them every 300 miles I would have to buy new ones every month.

    Got 600 miles out of m Clifton 1’s (the re-release version). No prob. I don’t think it’s as simple as crossing a mileage threshold. Depends on your shoe, what kind of running you do, and what kind of runner you are. Good vid!

    Been using a pair of Asics GT-2000 8 (2E) for abouts 350 to 380 kilometres now. They're my first pair of dedicated runners; I'm a heavier guy for my stature (78 kilos or so) and for a while just used gym trainers. I logged maybe abouts 50 to 80 kilometres on the treadmill pre-COVID, and due to COVID and my extended periods of time spent outside, have logged most of my 300 or so kilometres outside on pavement and gravel trails throughout Spring and the absolute dead-of-Summer. Just approaching 400 kilometres (well short of 300 miles) I've found that the Flytefoam is quite dead and incurring ache(s) in my patellas and soles afterwards; long or short runs.

    The big test for me is how the shoe feels. With almost every single pair I’ve had in the past I eventually get to a run where the shoe just feels dead. That’s when I know it’s time for them to go. There may not be any significant wear on the outsole at all but when I get that feeling I know it’s time for a new pair. In the past I’ve mostly run in ASICS and in general they all seem to last a long time, 800km or 500 miles and sometimes more. There’s normally very little wear on the outsole when I retire them. On the other hand my Ultraboosts are showing some serious wear after only 500km and I doubt they’ll make it much further than 600km which is slightly disappointing.

    I have only been getting around 300 miles out of the Hoka Challenger ATR 4 and 5s but the Clifton 5s are going strong at 450 miles. My Brooks Revels and Adrenaline 18s are about 2 years old, I use them for every day use plus a couple hundred miles or more mostly treqdmill and they are like new.

    Yes, it felt less bounce now.

    I look at wear on the tread and how many accumulated miles I get. I also see how the shoes feel when I run in them and how I feel the next day. If I feel beat up for no other reason I start looking to demote the shoes
    I get about 600+ miles per pair- doesn't depend on manufacturer.

    Depends on the runners weight I would say. I'm a little over 100kg and have 2 meters of height.. I definitely feel when I pass 500km of running. Coming closer to 600km, my foot starts to hurt because of worn out cushioning imho.

    I'm still watching the video, but before I forget, in my opinion, when to retire sneakers all depends on how much running you are doing weekly to get a good gauge. I train about 4 to 5 days out of the week, so i give my sneakers 400 miles before retiring. If I'm rotating sneakers than that number might be higher..all depends on the amount of running you do..

  • @agsmith001
    @agsmith001 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks Nate! interesting. this stuff drives me nuts. the bounce factor is big for me but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's the shoe or how i feel that particular day...and sometimes a relatively new shoe doesnt have as fresh a feel as some older pair. idk why. are there variations in the manufacture? is it just me? i have a pair of rincons that have 400 miles on them that feel way better than a pair i have with 70 miles. why? and i have retired a couple pairs already with about 300 miles when the go flat... one thing though, comparing to a new pair at the store doesnt work if they keep changing them!

  • @jsonlee01
    @jsonlee01 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lots of great info. Thanks. My dilemma is what to do with those old pairs that are not great for running in anymore but are still in decent shape other than wear in the outsole? I don’t do a lot of trail running and I average around 30 miles a week so they are not extremely abused. I hate to throw them out knowing they’ll end up in a landfill somewhere, but I don’t know if they are in good enough shape to donate them. The most signs of wear are the usual flat spots in the tread pattern.

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great question. Some pairs I keep for mud shoes or dog walking shoes. And for others I check local organizations that accept donations, but we hear you on what shoes are donation "worthy" or not

    Great video as always. I have a question about drop of a sneaker. I was recently diagnosed with Achilles tendinitis. My orthopedic told me the lower drop puts more stress on our calves and causes tendinitis more. Do you happen to orefer to run in higher or lower droos sneakers and have you ever dealt with tendinitis before?

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David! If you haven't yet, watch our video series here on youtube about transitioning to a lower drop shoe. Nate shows you how to safely adjust. In other words, it's not a matter of one type of shoe CAUSING tendinitis or stress, but rather you first teaching your body how to move correctly in any type of shoe - and that includes maintenance on the worked tissues and tendons. • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's not a lot of shoes. Especially not enough to warrant a big exhale and wide eyes. People have always said that actors are narcissists but youtube vidiots take that to an entire new level. Can you imagine being married to someone who is always talking about their youtube videos and how they really can't be bothered but they need to get another youtube video uploaded. This guy's house and life must completely be dictated by what people write in his comment sections, what youtube rules get released, how many people watched his youtube video. I wonder if he gets really angry at someone in the house or next door if they make a sound while he's filming his youtube video. Everything in this guy's life must be about youtube. Meanwhile his youtube is about his fitness. This guy would be a front runner for the actual worlds biggest narcissist . No idea why he cares about his fitness but he doesn't care enough to shave and instead keeps that thing which is as filthy as a public toilet around his face. Can you imagine if he's running all the time he must run through some polluted streets and through some areas where all sorts of bugs and crap get caught in beard and around his lips, which he then wipes all over his face. Man I really just hate ugly men like this that think they look good on camera. People who are as un-photogenic as this lopsided faced guy just should not be making videos and putting them out for the world to see. I feel embarrassed for him and anyone who actually knows him. Especially when they have to hear about him constantly talking all the time to his friends and family about his youtube videos and they just feel so cringed out not being able to tell him that he is just far too ugly to be posting videos of himself. He should be doing podcasts instead without a camera. Or doing blogs on a website. Just not putting that out of shaped face on a camera. He even thinks he looks so good that he needs to wear a backwards cap. If he doesn't need to wear a cap to the point he has turn it backwards then why is he always, and I mean always wearing a cap? Living just a couple of steps away from this guy turned our dream home and everyone in our streets dream, into a cringe fest. We have gone from having monthly street BBQs to not having any since he moved in because everyone has to actually focus on not running into this guy in the street. It's nearly become a game where you lose points if you find yourself having to speak to him. I guess he doesn't really have anything but it seems he tries to come across here in youtube that he's this cool outgoing knowledgeable guy but the truth is he may be knowledgeable but it's at the price of living a life that one enjoys. The other neighbour goes to the same doctors as this guy and she was telling us that the reason we hear him blowing up and screaming down the phone so often is because he's on some type of anti-pshycotic medicine for his severe depressive episodes. Oh well, I guess this world takes all sorts. I'm just sick of having to live like avoiding him at all costs is a way of life enforced on us because we feel so embarrassed for him due to the level of cringe he has all over him when he's around the neighbourhood. I won't even get started on his OCD behaviour he shows off every step he takes
