      I have an old hip injury from childhood so my hips aren’t balanced, I really try the cue run from the hips but have found the glute/ham cue as useful esp as I fatigue. Tks!

      It helps to change surface over time. Also its okay to take sequential walking breaks if needed. Other wise sprint or make your runs more faster.

    I was listening a podcast while running and one of the people said something along the lines of "I don't train, I go to nature" and it has honestly changed my perspective on running. I've stopped comparing my runs and getting annoyed if I did worse than the day before and now I just run to breathe fresh air and be in nature. Has done wonders for my mental health and my times have improved!

      I absolutely agree. I am so much happier when I run in wooden trails that I just enjoy myself and try to run for a set time. They are often quite fast, because I am so much more relaxed.

      Competition induces testosterone which is essential for both sexes. I agree we need to cherish the world and that's my favorite part. I train so I can spend a hike or jog in nature and just absorb it without thinking about my breath and which hill is next

    This year I discovered my new favorite type of run - the gratitude run. Each mile of the run (no matter what distance!) I choose a different focus for my gratitude. One mile I may be giving thanks for a beautiful sunrise and the next I may be appreciating the beauty of the run itself. It's been amazing in helping my mindset in dealing with injuries and pain - and has helped immensely in letting go of disappointment around certain tempo runs or qualifying race times. Us runners can be so hard on ourselves, and mindset can be everything!!

    I'm a big music person when I run. I take great pride in my spotify playlists. It pumps me up and sometimes I'll legitimately start dancing when I'm having a good time (probably to the glee of random cars passing by).

      This is me too! Even outside of running I almost always have music playing, but on a run I'll choose an album and just get out there and enjoy it! Also had a good few runs where I'll be a bit tired but then a good song will hit and I'll somehow find a way to get through it!

    I've seen videos that drag out content for the sake of revenue but you guys have a vast amount of information in very less time. It really shows you guys do it for your love for running than making money

    I use a lot of these tips and have done for a long time. One additional tip I picked up a long time ago was to smile if you're running hard and feel your shoulders/upper body tightening up or clenching. For some reason, it tends to help keep the shoulders loose - or at least it does for me :-)

    I love all these tips and I’m constantly working on a number of them. I will say Anna, that analogy of running on puppy dog tails made me think I guess I would have to learn how to levitate if I were in that horrible situation. 😂😂

    My three tips:
    1. Do an effort session, a hill session, and easy recovery run and a long steady run each week.
    2. Join a club. All good running clubs cater for all abilities. It gives you people to run with and they have a good social scene.
    3. Always stretch after a run. It helps to prevent stiff legs.

    Hey guys! Thank for the excellent video once again! I believe in cadence all the way, since I started focusing on cadence I've improved from around 150-160spm to between 180-190spm and, as a result, I managed to drop my half marathon time by over half an hour and my 10k dropped by almost 11 minutes. All in the same calendar year. I had to change my foot strike to forefoot striking, as it's tough to maintain high cadence on longer runs when you're midfoot or heel striking. That took some getting used to (and constantly screaming calves!) but in the end, the gains were well worth it...

    Great video everyone, with great tips! I especially like the “Enjoy your run” tip. Sometimes I get hung up on my pace instead of enjoying the beauty around me. I need to keep my runs in perspective and remember that I’m blessed to be able to do these runs!

    I'm going to start using some of this tips when I run. During my runs, I listen to music from the 90's and early 2000's club/house mixes (Cher, P!nk, La Bouche, etc.). For motivation, I keep in mind why I started running and how awesome it will be to achieve my goals.

    I loved the tips and you really make a terrific team. Am training for the virtual NYC Marathon and really appreciated either confirming some things I do and being made aware of newer ways of doing something. One that really stood out was posture, my ballet instructor reminds me of the EXACT tips you gave while running: hips up, head held by a string and shoulder blades tight. Tips I share: having come of age in the 80's that's the music I pull from when needing the most push, I visualize dancing back in the day, and check out for a few miles on runs longer than 13 miles, and #2 is though not a tremendously religious person I do pray and connect with spirituality during long runs and thank it for the health, physical ability and clean and safe environment I have to cast a run. I am equally thankful for all running communities, such as yours, and the means available to reach you. I will support continue to support your endeavors!

    I love your channel. I always learn things about this new hobby and the information is very helpful. The section about cadence made me think about my time in the military. Have any of you tried running in a group and shouting out a cadence? Normally, whoever was leading P.T. would lead the cadence. They would shout something and the group would shout it back. I always found this a motivating way to keep going. I miss hearing them. Some of them were funny, some were even raunchy LOL I don't reckon they would have to be a military theme. You can do it with lines from a song. Cheers!

    I will absolutely try some of these on today's run. This is such a helpful channel to a beginner. I am particularly going to pay attention to the tip about breathing from the diaphram rather than shallowly. That and my cadence. Will be interesting to count that.     Great video gang! I'm finding that I'm having to refocus myself during runs on a lot of things now that I'm running again after my injury this summer. Thanks for the tips on running form, and diaphramic breathing, both of which are proving to be quite difficult now that I'm trying to regain my fitness level.

    Fantastic tips and I've taken all of these tips on board but they have all helped me quite a lot. It's quite easy to want to slump a little when we're tired but I've tried opening up my chest a little more and does steady my breathing and allow me to go for longer. Thanks guys

      Try engaging your core outside of running too. Going to grab sth from the fridge? Check how your core is doing on the way there ;) If you start doing it as anytime routine it'll be easier to remember to do it when running as well.

    The advice about mindfulness whilst running is something I have never come across before. I think you have covered all basis and the different topics you have covered are excellent pointers for the recreational as well as the competitive runner. Not mutually exclusive.     I love running to music! I've been working on picking up my cadence to consistently around 180. "Tusk" is one of my all time favs for this."Running Down a Dream" is a good one too.

    Can you make a video on foot pronation or the right kind of pronation to have an injury free long term running. I have a high outward pronation in the mid foot. Normally my shoes get worn of outward around 500kms, and i do road running mostly. I have a good arched foot.
    Is it good/ bad? Should i change ? Any tips to change?

    I actually think about breathing, take note of my pace by half mile intervals and try to enjoy the quiet at 0400 hrs for my run. Thanks for the tips and videos!

    I think you could have also said to listen to the sound your feet make on the ground. It's a great indicator of stomping = wasted energy.

    Another very informative video indeed! Thankyou so much The Running Channel! 😊 By the way, I have one quick question and I really do hope you can enlighten me about this matter. If you're running and you've reached a bpm of 190-200, is it still okay to continue running or do you need to stop? Because it happened to me just recently when I was running, my smartwatch beeped telling me that I was already at 190, but the thing is I was still feeling okay. I wasn't fatigued yet and my breathing was still fairly good. I just had a hard time choosing which one to listen to, my smartwatch or my body. I was afraid that if I continue running just because I'm feeling okay then something bad might happen. One last thing, if we can't run above that bpm, how do marathong runners continue to run all throughout without stopping?
