- After many recommendations after the Wendy's and Five Guys' review to try another American fast food place, I've decided to head down to Popeyes in Richmond which is famous for it's Louisiana style chicken. Lets see what it tastes like!

From a Michelin Star Indian Restaurant to a Popeyes Chicken... I just love the variety on your channel Gary... and eating your biscuits with gravy is ABSOLUTELY the way to go!
He is someone who, from what I have seen can review fine dining to takeaways very well.

Gary, you just need to tap the touchscreen like you would on a smart phone. You're applying too much pressure for too long which is why it's not registering your presses. Just lightly tap the screen.

Restaurant order screens aren't great for a multitude of reasons. Best advice I can give as a tech guy is to use the pad of your finger instead of the very tip, press instead of jab, and leave a slightly longer pause between the buttons.

I am German but I work in the United States for a German-owned pharmaceutical company.
My aunt and uncle brought my grandmother over to visit and they saw a Popeye's commercial on television and they asked to go there.
I think they ate there 25 days out of the 30 days they were here!

Jebus. That's downright dangerous. Cholestrol aside, Popeyes is very salty. I'd feel my bp after eating a meal and having leftovers the next day.

You just need to use a single finger.
It's actually user error. With capacitive touch screens (like your phones), you're not meant to jab it, which Gary was doing. Using the pad of your finger with a light touch is how you're meant to use it.

The cameraman tries his best
Spent ten minutes trying to help an elderly gentleman to check in on a touch screen at my GP surgery today, unfortunately he couldn’t remember his date of birth. Had to direct him to the grumpy receptionist, poor soul was upset. Technology is great if people can work it. Not a fast food fan but I’d maybe give this one a go.
Touch screens at a doctors surgery really doesn't sit right with me. 🤢
@@hughblack6831 I don’t mind it but my elderly parents struggle with it as they’re both blind. This elderly gent had cognitive problems, so it’s not ideal unless you have someone with you. Sadly a surprising amount of people can’t read either - you’ve no idea.

I'll agree with you about the illiteracy, I was in casualty a few years back with my daughter and the guy next to me (early 20s) couldn't fill in his form, so I helped him out as you could see he was getting frustrated. The software on the touchscreens makes sense to the developers, but not necessarily to the public at large. As I edge closer to old age though, I'm seeing gaps appearing in my IT skills now - that's the frightening bit. 😬
@@hughblack6831 I agree, it’s not very hygienic. I’m heading towards old age too and can keep up with basic technology - so far. I’d hate to end up really struggling like my parents.
My surgery has a check in iPad, but the receptionist couldn’t care less if you don’t wish to use it. I presume it exists purely for those who want to avoid contact with reception or the up to 2 minute wait.
That self ordering screen was diabolical. They must have customers who simply turn round and walk out in annoyance. I’d far rather order from a real person.

Yeah in a fast food place you have to put your fingers where everyone else has been then hold the food with those fingers then eat that food. If we learned nothing from c..d then that’s really bad.

The chicken is often from South America, Europe or Vietnam. Beef is often British and Irish in UK fast food.
I love these reviews. Gary is very polite and seems to be a good, ordinary person which makes the reviews something to connect with.
My grandchildren dragged us to Popeyes in Reading. Ordering on the screens was not easy and they had fingerprints on them, yuk!
As for the food, it was OK but not worth the money. We ordered fries, but they had seasoning on them! Another yuk! But the kids loved it. I wouldn't bother again, can cook much better and cheaper at home, but I appreciate that's not the point for their customers.

@@GaryEats Cajun seasoning on the fries, dipped in the gravy, to die for! The 'biscuit' in the USofA is a different animal. Often eaten with gravy.
I had the unprivileged of trying a local popeyes near me after reading a local rag review raving how good it was.As i love fried chicken ill give it ago.. But i was disappointed with dinning experience. For me with fried chicken it is all about the coating. But for me it was like eating crushed cornflakes plus also the gravy and mash was crap imo.
I have better fried chicken in many chippys.

I make this sort of stuff at home all the time, with generic corn flakes. You don't need to deep fry them, an air fryer or oven works. If I do have time, I deep fry them twice in a wok.
And the reason? I went to Popeyes, and became addicted.

Surprised but pleased by how many people are anti self service. I work in retail currently, been there about 6 months. I'd say about 65-70% of our customers go for self service (give or take certain days, Saturdays are always so busy you don't keep track). But the ones that don't feel strongly about it and I always appreciate that conversation. I'm often left standing alone behind a counter watching people go to self service on quieter days. We aren't paid much but it's a challenging job. So it's rewarding to see people still prefer the interaction with humans. I'd always argue a computer is less likely to find or even offer solutions to specific problems. You're more likely to find a resolution with people intending to help people. Machines don't have that as a function.
Ps, long ramble aside. Enjoy the channel, keep finding your videos somehow and I appreciate your fair/reasoned approach to food. It's refreshing when a lot of channels call everything great, or there's financial incentive to review positively. You can be fair, point out the flaws and rate on quality and still be respectful. I enjoy that about your reviews. 😊😊👌✌️

@@deadzio @deadzio I get where you're coming from, but to be honest, these days I'd wait. I work in a clothing store too so, if there's an issue with your purchase, more likely a cashier is going to catch it/more likely you'll get it discounted by a manager. + our self service is card only + when there's 20+ people in the queue, there's 20+ people in self service. + no returns or exchanges at self service. Self service almost always goes wrong for me also, so the time you're waiting for someone to come and fix it, or approve an item, you've lost the time you were trying to save.
Even using this video as an example, it'd have been quicker for Gary to know what he wanted to order and tell that to a person. I dunno, I just think there are more benifits to the interaction with a cashier than there are to a self service machine. I get them, I'm sure people like using them, too, I'm just a 32 year old dinosaur. 😅🤣🤷♂️✌️

Have to be honest does make me smile watching you with those ordering machines being of the generation that can remember a smiling member of staff waiting to take your order (or nearly smiling). 👍

A lovely video but very sad. This used to be Don Fernando's, a really superb Spanish restaurant where I spent many, many happy evenings. I'm sure you would've enjoyed it too, Gary. It was absolutely superb and I'm very sad it's no longer there.

Hi Gary. Like you avoid mushrooms, I’m not a fan of chicken so I won’t comment on the food. However, your criticism of the touch screen operation and it cleanliness is very relevant. Particularly when eating food with our fingers. A sachet of sanitiser with each order should be mandatory. Cheers.

I actually like those screens at least you can add and take things from your order and it understands unlike some staff who gets very confuse and just ignore your requests and gets your order wrong. We do not have a Popeye in Australia yet. The main chain I am waiting for is Jollibee but my son is desperate for Popeye.

Have been to Popeyes quite a few times in Texas (have family there) and love it. Didn’t know they have branches in England!!! Would definitely try with Hubby Joe, but unfortunately not near us. I actually laughed out loud with you ordering on screen - thought it was only me that was so impatient - they are so annoying. As usual, another great review, Gary!

Plain fries bland (wish I’d remembered yr speculation about em) as cardboard & cake flavourless as crumbling sand. (Didn’t purchase gravy as dear enough) Enjoyed the tenders though.

Biscuits,and gravy is only found in some parts of America,usually in the South,I don’t know much about Chicago, I have never seen gravy in Popeyes in NYC.In fact I wouldn’t know where to go here on the East Coast to get Biscuits and Gravy.

Idiot design, testing, real world trials and a failure to respond to feedback.
With the state of KFC there is definitely room for another chicken focused fast food place. Im still astonished KFC cook the chicken in fat oil. When weve finally got house hold air fryers. The KFC is Australia were cooling their chicken with air fryers in the early 80s. But here in the UK its ridiculous, i can make tastier chicken at my house than these places

We live near Washington DC and around here you have KFC, Royal Farm Store and Popeyes as the big chicken fast food places. For us we like Popeyes first then the Farm Store, with FKC a far third. I will tell you we ate at Popeyes just 3 days ago and I normally get the sandwich and my wife will get the 2 piece. This time I tried the wings in the hot sauce. They where pretty good but it made for an interesting morning the next day. I do love the gravy but they don't sell it like that over here. BTW I think the overseas KFCs seem to be better. We had a great meal at a KFC in Nairobi last year. Glad I found this channel.

Good variety of different places on this channel. Admittedly I can’t see any nutritional value in that meal although I am sure it’s tasty. If I was to consume this meal I’d have to run 10k afterwards, do 50 pull ups, push ups and sit ups. It’s a sinful meal indeed and as always with sinful meals the road to redemption is often a brutal test of ones character not to mention will power. That said you reviewed this well 👌🏼💪👍🙏🏽🤟👏🍻

Sorry guys but it’s KFC for me every time. Told you I had no class. 😂 KFC can be hit and miss regarding quality and temperature. However, I will only eat in and if I’m not completely happy with every aspect of my meal I go back to the counter and insist on having it rectified. The food is not exactly CHEAP so I don’t go very often. Also it has to be chicken on the bone. None of that popcorn or chicken tenders rubbish. And don’t get me going on the chicken burger/sandwich. Just my opinion which works for me so the floor is now open to those wanting to slate me. 🤣 Great video guys. 👍

What's with all these fast food chain reviews?? It's not exactly interesting food, it contains incredibly unhealthy ultra processed ingredients, and the $billion corporate that owns Popeyes puts independent businesses out of business. Very disappointing choice of venue to promote.,
I'm not promoting venues, I just like doing food videos. I've done 4 on the channel out of a total of 110 videos so be fair.
No more for a while though as I'm not a big lover of fast food anyway.
Try tapping the screen with 1x finger, instead of pressing it down with 2x fingers. I think that's what the problem was.

KFC 🍗 is too greasy. Standards at KFC have dropped and as for the chicken pieces. 🐔 I have my doubts more like sparrow pieces. Very small pieces probably baby 🐥 chickens are being used. Only my opinion for what's it worth.

Great review, as usual Gary. I didn't even know Popeyes was a 'thing' until I watched this. 'Not sure about their 'halitosis chicken' logo but they're clearly greatly superior to KFC, who are bloody terrible nowadays. Nice to see you're not the only one who struggles with those irritating self-service screens - they drive me nuts. My guess is all the crap coming off people's fingers is interfering with their touch sensitivity. Good call about the hand-sanitizer, BTW, you tend not to think about that when using self-service machines. I wonder how grubby they get in supermarkets? I shudder at the thought.

Gary, Your Popeyes doesn't look anything like my Popeyes here in Louisiana! Here's some trivia for you. A container of gravy is not offered on the menu in the states. The chicken sandwich (Just like the one you ordered) was so popular when it came out that people were lining up on roadways to order it. They finally had to temporarily discontinue it to get people to calm down.😃

With our recent COVID experience I wouldn't be thrilled to use that self serve screen. At a bear minimum they should clean it every 10 minutes and have hand cleaner dispensers available. The chicken I can take it or leave it it's not much different to KFC. American fast food is pretty nearly and no surprise so many of them are overweight.

The "biscuit" looks like what we call a scone? I think the machine has been well used, you did try all the different ways it could be pressed, it just wasn't up to playing properly any longer.

Went to my first Popeyes at Northampton a few weeks ago & was completely disappointed. The food was greasy, the biscuit although it was lunchtime seemed like it had been sitting for an eternity & everything seemed generally bland. I had heard good things & was really disappointed - i won't rush back.

Never seen such a love less eating experience.. I’d be too fuming to be met by a machine in the first place.. indicative of a machine of addiction… plastic environment & giving nothing but dirty food addiction.. I say food.. chemical compounds from a lab..

I'm not a fan of Popeyes. I think the coating is too dark. I don't like the flavour. The only thing I like on the menu is the biscuits and honey. Slim Chickens is far better. The kids meal is only a fiver and you get. Good portion and you even get carrots.

Unless hours away from home or self catering facilities, I dont think I'd partake. Think id rather a medium whole chicken, roast it myself and get all medieval on it infont of a film for a fiver, not risk the dry meal deal for 50% more. If that only were ordered then im certain, with your polite honesty, we'd be in agreement.

Try putting Honey on the Chicken. It really makes it pop. I cant go to any Popeyes round me as they are really Dirty and staffed by Adults that act like Children . All in all they have good food as long as they are clean.

I had it last year, loved it the first time and thought it was better than KFC, had it again later in the same week and it was vile! In fact it was so bad, I had to take it back and get a refund. The chicken was grey, slimy, tough and old! It didn’t taste like fresh chicken at all and I definitely won’t be going back, the chips were cold too! Absolutely rotten.

Not been to my local Popeye's yet put off by the ordering system and hate overcooked food, prefer waiter service and don't like little pots of things like gravy or buffalo sauce, can't stand or walk and limited use of hands due to advanced arthritis, such is life!

Great review, Gary. I think the problem with the touchscreen is that you were using 2 fingers to make your selections, and touchscreens typically have problems with that. Next time, try using just one digit. Just a thought. Keep them coming! ❤

Oh no moan coming up, When you have to tap on a screen to get your meal, get served processed cheese on chicken, and Gravy served in a pot.
Maybe im just an old f--t but won't lie the younger generation seem to love this type of food, im assuming its all the MSG in it.
Moan over, your meal seemed what you would expect out of a fast food place, just not my thing but as long as it was edible.

When I tried Popeye's I liked the chicken burger but did not like the fried chicken at all, like yours it was dry and I'm not fond of the coating as it's too crunchy and thick.

Press the screen.. with the flat of your finger.. dnt stab poke it. I will say for all the haters of touch screen.. if your in a take away store.. have money in your pocket.. the screens are the least of your worries for germs.
